Kicker Kris Brown better start looking over his shoulder, because some competition is lurking in the shadows.

Dynamo defender Craig Waibel put on quite a kicking show after Sunday’s afternoon practice. With Brown coaching him and holding for him, Waibel connected on 10 of 14 field goals to send 30 kids from The Methodist Hospital to the Dynamo’s SuperLiga semifinal match against Pachuca on Tuesday.

Waibel started from 17 yards and worked his way back, connecting from 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 yards.

Then, Brown set up Waibel for a 57-yard attempt – Brown’s Texans record. After Waibel made that one, Brown went back for a 63-yard attempt, the record distance in the NFL shared by Tom Dempsey and Jason Elam. Waibel made that one, too.

“It was quite a challenge, but I got great coaching,” Waibel said. “This was awesome. I can’t thank Kris enough for helping me.”

Brown would like to return the favor. If the Texans and Dynamo can set it up, he will go to the Dynamo practice field and try to kick a soccer ball past goalkeeper Pat Onstad to send children to a Texans game.

“I’d be happy to do that,” Brown said. “I’m all for helping kids, and this is a great way to do it. I had fun. Craig did a great job.”

I met Craig at the Shell Houston Open. He is a great guy. He invited me to a Dynamos game and said he would bring me up front if I came. He was a pretty good golfer.:splits:

he nailed a 63-yarder? holy crap. met him once. cool guy, but he didn't look like he could make 63 yard field goals.

It appears KB had to prove he could do it too. Props to Kris for nailing it.

Brown hits from 63

After holding and watching Dynamo defender Craig Waibel kick a 63-yard field goal for charity after practice Sunday, Texans kicker Kris Brown had to see if he could do it before Monday’s practice.

And he did.

“I nailed it, too,” Brown said with a laugh.

Yeah big difference when it's not in a game over 6 foot something OL and DL (with their hands up) getting the trajectory low enough to travel that far but high enough to clear the lines + the pressure on top of that. But 63 yards is impressive nonetheless, from both guys.

When we saw him at the Shell Houston Open my mom said OMG. She never really notices anything but she noticed him.
