Things seem to be going pretty slowly in a forum that is normally active. I know, it's because relevant and meaningful college football info is even more scarce than it is in the NFL. However, I think it would be a cool idea if we started up a pre-season draft board. It would be voted on by everyone and we would go position by position hopefully trying to rank the top 10 draft prospects at each position (10 minimum for the big positions, hopefully 5 for the smaller ones like FB, K, etc). Anyone eligible for the 09 draft can be ranked as well and I'd like to spend 1-2 days on each position voting. I think it would be a good idea to get discussion going before the college football season as well as bringing some of the unknown players at this point into the light a bit more. Before this gets started, I want to make sure there's enough people interested, so if you would be willing to vote or sound interested, speak up!!
 
its a good idea assuming people have recover'ed from this past draft, well in my case actually the last three or four drafts. you expend unbelievable time wrapped up in the prospects, watching college games, reading pre-season polls, study of the draft sites & all written material available. whew :headhurts:

throw this on top, I doubt most people are too excited about next years draft class, depends upon underclassman declaring early. the last three drafts have been outstanding, this would be a good year for the Texans to drive deep into the playoffs :fans:
 
I'm interested in helping in anyway... I've barely starte looking at the next class though and really havn't seen much of a lot of them. I think it'll be great to get a list going before the season starts. Then as the college season progresses we can see which players respond, improve, decline, etc. and have our final in depth list complete going into the offseason activities.

Beanie Wells is already moving up my list. At this point, I assume he will be gone before we're up, and I still would like a stud D player... but the more I think about a Hoss RB w/ Slaton, the more I like.

I think it's important for us to keep in our mind as we go along of the kind of player to look for specific to the Texans scheme. I think we can mark the 3rd down scat back type of RB's off the list at this point, for example. This will help narrow down the players specific to who would fit the team best and who we may actually select.
 
I can provide info on the small school guys. Or I could probably do a particular postion if that would be preferable. No OL for me though. I cant judge them for jack.
 
I can already think of four players who will not be available (gone early in the top 10) a pair of LT's Michael Oher & Eugene Monroe then a pair of Buckeyes Malcolm Jenkins who if he had come out early this past draft was the top cb in the country & MLB James Laurinaitis.

so I'd start with the top of my board for the Texans with Georgia Tech RDE Michael Johnson 6-7 258 4.6 speed. pair him with Mario & theres your bookends. of course I don't expect him to be available either but might the Texans consider a move up the draft board to aquire a finisher off the edge?

I'd be just the top 10 prospects at each position (and maybe a sleeper), not so much a Texans Big Board. Not looking to add scouting reports or anything, just trying to create a starting point before the college season.
 
I do like the idea of having the top 10 at each position, regardless of if we think they go before us or not. At this point last year Calais Campbell and Kenny Phillips were top 5/top 10 locks. We know what happened to them. I'm in complete agreement that we have a good idea of who won't be available, but I think it'd still be important for us to pay close attention to them, especially if they are at a key position.

Long ways to go and see how our team plays but could you imagine if we drafted Oher and had him as a guard? With Brown, Oher, and Winston, we would have an incredible run blocking OL.

Well it's sounding like there's enough support out there to try this out so lets give it a test run and see how it goes! We'll start with QBs, rank the top 10 QBs who are eligible for the draft in 2009 (this includes RS sophmores and juniors). Also, if you want to suggest a sleeper at the position, please do so!!

I like the Smith kid. Don't remeber if it's rivals or someone else has two centers at the top of the OL food chain. That there is a very rare bird.

Nathan Brown is not a slepper. I rate him as the 3rd best senior QB

LSU has a sick FS. #27. I forget his name, but I remember thinking he was going to be a great prospect.

3 SS's to watch IMO are:

Florida State, Myron Rolle (Junior)
South Carolina, Emmanuel Cook (Junior)
Virginia Tech, Kam Chancellor (Junior)

They are all juniors, but all great players.
 
Anyone else got any QB rankings? Even if it's only to 5 prospects, thats all we really need right now.

You are leaving out the USC safties.

Also, I THINK you are refering to Chad Jones for LSU. He was an Astro's high draft pick that they failed to sign of course and I belive off hand it was Miles who said something to the extent of "he is the best FS to play for LSU" after having put Landry through the program as well.
 
My end of season projections:
1) Matthew Stafford, Georgia

3) Tim Tebow, Florida (Will be drafted high, but I don't see him being a top NFL QB)
4) Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
5) Graham Harrell, Texas Tech
6) Rudy Carpenter, ASU


I think Bradford helps take Oklahoma to a BCS bowl and stays in control. I think Harrell establishes that he is a legit QB prospect with the help of Crabtree. I think Stafford will be a true canidate for #1 overall, and I think that Cantwell will fill Brohm's shoes and be a better professional player. I think Tebow will go top 10, and follow a similar career path to Matty L. for Arizona. I think Carpenter is flying under the radar but could go first day, even with the new set-up.

Consider me rebuffed....someone asked for lists...I ran across one and posted it....I think you're prety much going to get a reshuffeling of ten to twelve guys at this point.....I'm wondering as your scoldoing rolls off my back, where any of us had Brinks listed at this time last summer.....Daniels is a play maker....someone will have him in camp....Much better prospect than
Troy Smith or the guy Flynn, also a Southlake Carrol guy, from LSU. IMHO.

I agree that we will see the same general list of guys at each position, it's more just an issue of order. I didn't have Brink listed even after the season. Daniel is a slightly better prospect than Smith, though Smith could move outside the pocket. Daniel will be in a camp, but he won't be a high draft pick nor will he be the solution to a team's QB problems.
