Dammit! I'm not subscribed to ESPN U. Thanks for the heads-up though. Will you please let me know your opinions on how our guys played? Thank you.

Ya me too. I'm at work or I would have liked to watch it. Notice anything? How did they look?

I honestly do not remember watching either one of them play at all during their collegiate career. Does Adibi look like a ballhawk? How athletic does db actually look?

You can see Brown get confused and abused by the Kansas defense. I seem to remember Adibi playing a little above average and outplaying Hall. I haven't watched the game in over a month. I've been watching the basketball season on DVD.

Background:

VT (#5) 3 pt favorite over KS (#8)
KS was ranked #2 in week 12

Both have good offense, moreso for KS
VT supposedly have better ST and D.

KS QB Reesing (5'11) is a little bugger who can make things go.
And Aqib Talib surely can do everything, one of those guys who can play all-way in the old days.

The tandem VT QBs Glennon and Taylor (a FR) both have been inconsistent. Glennon with more experience but Taylor has better wheels.
One week before the game, it was announced that starting RB Brandon Ore will be suspended by the team for the first quarter for showing up late at the final pre-bowl practice.
(Ore was having problems during the year, on and off the field. He was finally kicked off the team this Spring. Wasted talent!)

VT didn't really have a respected offense. They were way too inconsistent. Reesing was phenomenal in that game, but it was our defense that won the game. Talib. Wow, what else can really be said about his performance in that game. Taylor actually scared me coming into the game because of his scrambling abilities, but his first two snaps actually ended up in sacks for decent loss of yardage. The KU WR's stepped up like I hadn't seen since the Oklahoma State game. Virtually no expert gave KU a fighting chance, but man was that a fun game.

Certaintly didn't look Brown got "abused". He actually looked decent IMO. He had a bit of a natsy edge which was a welcome sight.

Adibi was pretty good, paticularly in coverage.

Overall, very excited about our VT picks.

Brown was clearly abused as on the 9 runs that he was responsible for as a blocker, the RBs only gained 55 yards, which is just a lowly 6.1 average.
2 of them were on third down conversion.
(When they ran his way, they made good on the third down conversion.)

One one play he missed the block on the LB at the next level (those LBs are supposed to be very slow, aren't they?), the RB gained only one yard.
Oh wait, if the LG would have made his block, the RB might've even been able to avoid that LB.

Brown was clearly confused since he wasn't perfect in pass protection.
He let his man beat him once on the outside. Glennon was sacked.
Oh wait, the play by play guy called it a coverage sack. It was a three-step drop. The QB could have thrown the ball away, but he didn't and then he ran into another O-lineman and the RDE got to him.

He also let the RDE past him to the outisde one more time.
This time the QB rolled away to the right and finally was hit just after he released the ball.
Oh wait. Again, the play by play guy said "with these young QBs, they need to learn to throw the ball away sooner".
It was something like 4.5 sec

Besides that, Brown was OK.
He can seal off the backside of the play, has a bit of quickness to be able to get to the next level with decent success on running plays away from his side, and generally neutralizes defenders on the other 29 pass plays.

What a pitiful performance by a LT!

The only complaint I have about Adibi is that he let either a TE or a lineman holding on to him 3 or 4 times in that game.

He's not strong enough, so he needs to use his quickness to get away from them sooner. If he gets tangled up with them, it's difficult for him to win that battle.

I like Ben Moffitt in this affect better.

Yeah, I agree with you on this. Adibi needs to hit the weights.

Funny analysis on Brown BTW!

By the way, Brown also looked good against Chris Long.
He won most of the battles (some of them pretty intense.)
Long did get the best of Brown a couple of times, but in similar situations as in this bowl game.

I said Brown won that match up by all counts!:fans:

I've already reprted that Brown won the battles against Merling (Clemson), as well as Gaine Adams (the year before).

In general, the offensive lineman will "win the battles" by accounts like yours because he did not give up a sack or a QB pressure. DE's don't alway pin their ears back. They cover the flats, stunt, fill a run gap, and stay home for backside pursuit against teams with a running QB.

Even at that, the best DE's in the world can go an entire game without recording a sack, and people will say the OT won the battle. That is BS. Long clearly won the battle against Brown, and to say otherwise is absurd. Long had his way. The Kansas DE's in the bowl game didn't even have double digit sacks between them during the regular season I believe, so they weren't a Chris Long or Gaines Adams. Brown looked confused and overwhelmed, and at times, just out-matched. That does not constitute winning a battle.

Still, I support him fully now as a Texan, and I hope for the best.

Can you break down some plays in both games.

When did he look confused and overwhelmed in the KS game?

When did Long have his way, when did Brown look overmatched?

I have the game film here. We can exchange ideas.

Don't want to look like I'm bailing on you, but I have to run. I would actually enjoy this, we can exchange PM's, but for today I have to go. I'm helping put on a youth event for inner-city kids, and today is the last day. It's called Spamarama. We have a lock-in tonight for the kids at either first or second baptist church. Anyway, I'll watch the game again tomorrow, trust me, that won't ever get old, and we can go from there once I wake up.

Sounds like fun.
The event
And the breaking down of tape!

We'll see ya! Have fun!
