C in the 2nd

Come on who's with me?! Can you immagine a stud C like Spencer or perhaps Baas for the core of the O-line? I really hope Spencer is still there in the 2nd so we can grab him. I'mn starting to think we do one of two things in the first: either we trade up for DJ or we stay put for Williamson.

Baas is a "tweener" depending on the Colts, Steelers, Eagles, and Pats is where Baas will go... If he makes it past them i seriously doubt he will make it 10-15 picks into 2nd.

Spencer is a good possibility. He should be there.

Soooooo, ya'll still don't think Barron will be there at #13? Cuz if he's still on the board, and we didn't make a move to get DJ, I would seriously consider taking him instead of the other guys. But I do like Baas and Spencer but I'd feel more comfortable getting that big land mass at LT. Kid should have his own zip code!!

I still think Barron at #13 is a bad pick for us. We still have immediate needs on defense. An LT is not going to start for us this year.. maybe not even next year.

That is true, but it looks like we're having an open try-out for LB by signing everyone. So other than that i guess DL would be our next concern? maybe or maybe not. We obviously didn't help ourselves in FA. Well at least we made an attempt but we still didn't sign anybody to protect Carr. And anyone of those three(Barron, Baas, Spencer) would be a great pick. Yes, they may not start yet but they all are capable of being the best at their positions and just might challange for their starting spots this year. Instead of stocking up on 2nd rate OL that are forced to start cuz that's all we have.

If we get Spencer in the 2nd, I would be incredibly happy...

About Barron, I am totally against taking him at 13...He's not an impact guy and we need immediate impact on defense...

Well if you look at our OLBs.. who do we have? Babin, Wong, Peek, and Cheatwood.

Wong will quite possibly be moving inside, and could very well not be resigned next season. he is hitting 30 and is somewhat expensive.

Peek looks promising to the fans but there is a reason why he is not our starter. The coaches see something in him that makes them reluctant to give him that responsibility, so at this moment all we can only really say that Peek is a situational pass rusher, and may stay that way.

Cheatwood is not exactly young, and is untested in the NFL. He could be just a backup.. if that.

That leaves us with one solid starter.. Babin. We need another solid OLB. And considering that we are restructuring our LBs and trying to get some speed at that position, and also considering that we are cutting sharper and foreman and the fans are skeptical.. grabbing a fast OLB would not only help solidify this new LB corp we are trying to create.. if he came in and did a good job, it would make everyone forget that we cut/traded sharper.

OLB seems like a logical pick for us.. especially considering that both Shawne Merriman, and David Pollack.. two of the best OLB tweeners to come out in a long time.. are both projected in the mid first round.. well.. it just fits.


Now look at ILB. Greenwood, Wong, Polk, Chamberlin, Morlen.

Chamberlin and Morlen are very questionable and are likely going to be depth, if anything at all. Greenwood is sharpers replacement. Polk didnt look much faster than sharper or foreman out there. he did well, but im not so sure he fits our new theme at LB (speed). That leaves Greenwood and Wong starting.. and like I said, Wong will most likely be gone next season.

that makes ILB a big need as well. if we traded up in the first and grabbed DJ.. that could be huge. He injects some major speed into our LBs.. hes a playmaker.. hes from Texas.. and he would definatly make people forget that we kicked out our veteran LBs. Especially if sharper was part of the trade to move up and grab DJ (which is a very likely scenario in my mind.)

SO.. first round I see us grabbing Pollack or Merriman.. or trading up for DJ. one of those three options WILL be open to us.

If we grab Pollack or Merriman.. we could POSSIBLY also grab Ruud, or Crowder in the second. this would leave the third round to grab an Olineman.. or even two. or possibly an Olineman and a Dlineman. there should be some quality interior Olinemen, and 3-4 Dlinemen available in the third this year.


Now.. if it panned out that way.. we really wouldnt have a major need left.




Oh.. I feel i should also mention DeMarcus Ware.. he could be a perfect fit at OLB for us.. and could also possibly play ILB. We may even be able to make a trade with say... the eagles.. and get him at the 32nd spot. Or if we stayed at 13.. or possibly traded down a few spots.. and grabbed Pollack.. then we could also trade back up into the 1st to get Ware. 6-4, 251 with 4.56 40. He has good instincts in coverage and is also strong around the edge.


there are just SO many options for us at LB in the 1st and 2nd round. It would be a shame to miss out on a chance like this to fix the pass rush. Pass Rush in the 1st and second.. Oline, and Dline in the 3rd and 4th.

Best wr available in the first round(williamson....) Spencer or Baas in second(preferably Baas if hes available). So right there in the first two rounds we have pretty much did everything possible to make our offense better. We added the extra reciever and a solid o-linemen. We can spend both our 3rd round picks for defense. preferably cb/safety, ILB, or D-Line.

I have not seen Spencer play. I hear he is fairly athletic or at least somewhat mobile, but why is everyone so hot on him all of a sudden? Isn't he fairly raw at the C position, and what makes him worth passing up some fairly stong skill position players who would probably be rated higher than him on most any draft board? I just don't see what sets him apart from the C prospects who will probably go in the late 3rd and day two.

I would much rather get one of the fast CBs or WRs or a ILB prospect in the 2nd round. I just don't see Spencer comming in a starting right away...so why not wait until the later rounds and get a guy who could be just as good?

Please fill me in if I am missing something here.
Oh and I would not be opposed to taking Baas in the 2nd though.

I'm in the draft Spencer corner. As Vinny said, it depends upon whose opinion you listen to as to who is better, Spencer or Baas. Baas is the better overall prospect & will most likely be picked in the 1st round. I believe that we should draft an impact player at a skill position with the 13th pick, not in the trenches. The only exception to that rule might be Barron.

If he's got his head on right, Incognito is another solid center prospect that should be available in the 3rd round, or later.

As for all the talk about ILB's & adding speed to our LB crew, even though he's old by NFL rookie standards, Robert McCune could be the perfect answer for us at ILB. He's been timed as the fastest LB in this year's draft. He's consistently run a 4.5 40 yard dash. He's even faster than DJ (4.55). He's a workout warrior & a physical freak. He did 34 strength reps at the combine.

I think TD is going to be one of those guys that drops farther than people expect. He doesn't really have a true position at this point unless some team thinks he's worth it as a first round LB convert.

Barron seems to have too many questions about his run blocking among other things. I think a more solid pick would be Wesley Britt in the 3rd (if he's there, could drop because of the injury) and he could have a season or two to really mature and develop. Either way I don't think a rookie LT would displace Wand so we might as well draft whoever we think has the best upside (of course, only if his upside is much greater than Wand's). At that point even if Britt didn't replace Wand, he would be solid depth and replace Wade whenever his contract is up.

(this is not a mock or value order, just who I think goes before our pick)

I'm sure some of those guys will drop as the draft boards fluctuate.

If none of those guys above are available at 13, I think our best bet is Carlos Rogers or Justin Miller- barring a trade down of course. CB is pretty deep this year so even if we take a guy a few spots early, if we think he can be take Glenn's spot in a year or two we shouldn't pass him up. It also seems unlikely all 3 RBs go before our pick, to be honest it wouldn't surprise me if Brown was the only one to go off the board by the time our selection comes around.

Hell, I don't know. I'm ready for the draft to get here.

Justin Miller hes not projected til late 20's.. He is #4 coner back on my list.

David Pollack stock is dropping like a rock. people are saying he is gonna be like A chris Hovan.

We lost several games on here by less than 10 pts. If we had a good #2 WR to take a double team away or force the other team to cover both Johnson and our #2 with double coverage then that opens the running game.. I dont see a minus side on drafting a WR...

Obcourse thats if Barron is gone.... Remember Kaliff Barnes OL Washington stock has been rising.. Hes climbing the charts.

i honestly think the best cb in the draft is carlos rogers. I think we take him at 13 because if you think about it, 10 wasnt too early last year for drob.....so why is 13 too early for rogers? because he is projected 15-17? screw that mess

Only reason I think we wont take Rogers.. or any other CB.. in the first round is because we took Drob last year.. and using another 1st rounder on one is gonna tie up alot of cap space in our secondary. But then.. the LBs and Dlinemen of a 3-4 are supposed to be somewhat cheaper than the DL and LBs of a 4-3.. so maybe we can afford to take another 1st round CB?

I look for CB in two years and next year we pick up d-line, this year I'm ganna say if we stay pat we will draft Williamson in the first and Spencer in the 2nd, and If we do move it will only be for a better WR (i.e. MW), or DJ, No CB this year unless Rolle somehow falls to us and we are fresh out of all of our other options.

A big negative on drafting a wr is that he will not be expect to blossom for at lease a couple of years.

if we were going to draft an offensive weapon in the 1st round of this draft.. it would most likely be a running back. DD has been great for us but he has obvious injury problems and it is possible that one of the big three RBs could fall to us... it would be hard to pass any of them up.

running back? come on....next to qb and #1 reciever, thats the least of our offensive worrys

how about this...we draft three offensive lineman in a row...barron in the first...chris spencer in the 2nd and with our first 3rd we draft evan mathias...it would greatly improve both our depth and starting lineup on the offensive line...and would create some serious competition at all positions

I think if any of them grade out similar to DR (several are possible) you forget what the internet draft boards proclaim them to be rated at and get another young CB for Capers aggressive man coverage. This is when we take our CB, when we have a wide array to choose from and not when we have AG in a wheelchair for our major playoff runs. Of course using that logic it would not kill me to take one later on the first day that could work on technique for a year or so and become comfortable with the defense (even the first rounder could take a similar approach if AG can still get it done)

They were talking with coaches in Hawaii about the changes in rules and how it will/is affecting play and Jeff Fishers comment was that you can't have too many good CBs these days. That is true for the whole league and doubly true in the AFC South. I think there is a very strong possibility that we take a CB at 13 and either Rogers or Miller should be available. Miller MIGHT be a bit of a reach and could be a trade down senario (16th???), but I am fine with either one.
