i know, i know. its speculation, but this ESPN writer lays out possible non-Packer Favre scenarios and Houston is listed as a sleeper. Thought people would be interested in the article to help pass the offseason. After all, with all this Favre talk ESPN has turned into the Favre-RedSox-Yankees network 24/7.

I would have no problem with the Texans going after Favre but it probably wouldn't do much for Schaub's confidence or Rosenfels level of patience. I gotta admit I would probably be first in line for a #4 Favre Texans jersey......

I hope the Pack deny Favre and he then suits up for the Vikings and trots out of the visitor tunnel in Lambeau opening night on Monday Night Football....boy that would be high drama. Booed? Cheered? Suicide watch for fans? who knows.

If I am Packer fan and the team doesn't let him come back...I am BENT.

As for here, as much as we'd all love it we got 2 capable QBs. Why cause stress on our team?
 
Won't happen but I don't see how any Houston fan could be against it if Farve would actually come here. He had an MVP type of season last year and lead his team to the AFC championship. I get goose bumps just thinking of what Farve could do with Andre Johnson. He's never had a WR like that ever, and Farve was all disappointed because the Pack wouldn't get Moss. I think that Johnson would be a nice 2nd prize.

That would seriously be something that Texans fans could get excited for. If Farve would do that, then I'd have no problem saying the hell with Shaub and Rosenfels for a year or so.

Again, great dreams and all but we live in a world of REALITY.
 
i'm not gonna lie.......................I thought about this as soon as i heard the packers didn't want favre............................it won't happen just, because good things like that don't happen to our city, but if it did I would turn into the boards #1 Texans fan and would trade in my VY avatar for Favre in battle red..........
 
im just linking stories, people. no need to be all frownfaced about it. i just thought yall would be interested that this hack thinks Houston would be a good fit and a possible sleeper in the mythical Favre sweepstakes. it's not as if its gonna happen. we already have one unhappy QB (sage) why add another (schaub)? not to mention, favre throws a lot of picks. that may fly in the lame NFC North but if you do that in the AFC South, you lose....just ask that pansy David Carr.

With all due respect to the Legend, I don't see him being that big of an upgrade in this system over Schaub & Sage.


With that said, I may buy a personalized Favre #4 Texans jersey anyway ;)
 
I posted this in the Bring Back Brett!!!! thread a few days ago.

Still feel the same about him and his show. No to Houston. I would be upset if he was brought here.

Since he mentions every possible team, it's a NFL thread. I don't know who Bill Williamson is, or if he's earned "hack" status, but he was likely told by ESPN to come up with this Favre piece. That he would include the Texans as a sleeper team in the potential Favre sweepstakes show how little he knows about this team.

How I look at the situation, the only good fit for Favre outside of Green Bay is the other Bay, in Tampa. Tampa Bay's Head Coach Jon Gruden was an assistant in Green Bay for 5 seasons in the '90s, the Bucs run a familiar WCO, they were a playoff team last season, and it's a short plane ride to Mississippi. Not to mention last year's starting QB, Jeff Garcia, is threatening a holdout. I think Gruden is just desperate enough to make this happen.

I'd be against it. I'd be vocally and angrily against it.

Now we know this has no chance of happening and that this entire thread is nothing more than off-season mental masturbation for bored fans but I absolutely, under no circumstances would want to begin a one or two year circus of "Brett Favre, Houston Texan". He's a great player and a great Packer but he doesn't play QB in a vacum and he would not put up anywhere near the numbers here in Houston that he did in Green Bay. No way in hell. He's going to come down here and work with a bunch of new people in a different offense, and for different coaches and try to adjust to all of it? I don't think so and even if he does and gives it everything he has he's going to dissappoint.

Then you have to wonder if he comes back for a second season but now he's what? A 19 year veteran or something like that? The guy would be a sideshow and a distraction and it would damage team chemistry badly to bring him and suddenly make this entire organization that was all about coming from 2-15, to 6-10, to 8-8, and headed for it's first winning season secondary to the Brett Favre show and one man.

his isn't Brett's team and it isn't going to become his team in one or two years. Sure he's a better QB than either guy we have now. There's no denying that. Dan Marino was a great QB but had no rings. Lots of great QB's end without rings. Teams win rings not just great QB's The Texans are building towards something and adding a huge legend like Brett Favre in the twilight of his career would risk derailing that.

I'm curious, with Childress's ties back to Reid, and Reid's ties back to Holmgren (and Favre), what makes you think Minny wouldn't be a good fit?

The fact that they play in a dome (where Favre has historically sucked) might be offset by the fact that all he'd have to do is be better than Tarvaris Jackson. And then there's that whole playing GB twice a year thing.

On another note, considering Brett Favre came to the NFL in 1992, has been a 3-time MVP, and has had the difference between the spelling and the pronunciation of his name pointed out by Ben Stiller in a major motion picture (not to mention by Tags on draft day), shouldn't those who still can't/won't spell his name correctly be subject to some horrible fate?
 
I respect Favre and appreciate his play, but I don't want him here. As stated more ably by posters above, Favre's presence would turn our steady building project into a circus side-show.

Plus, I doubt the Packers--who still hold his rights--would want to trade him to us for the simple reason that we're coming to Lambeau this year. No way do they want him wearing opposing colors in front of the home fans. Of course, that logic eliminates a couple of other likely landing spots if Favre is traded: Atlanta, Minnesota, Chicago and Carolina.

That said, I suspect Favre may especially want to play again for this reason: he does not want that awful interception he threw in OT against the Giants to go down as his last NFL pass. That's the anti-Ted Williams. He's a cinch Hall-of-Famer and a great teammate, but, if he chooses to come back, I hope it is for someone else.

If he was worried about that pass being his last he wouldn't have retired in the first place. He had a tremendous year last year and didn't seem to have any physical problems that would make one think hey that guy cannot do this another year.

If he comes back it's because he just wants to. Time has elapsed and perhaps he's just changed his mind.

no doubt about the bolded and hadn't thought of the Texans game in Lambeau. also agree that nobody would want to end their career like it did last year v. NY.

i read another article by Peter King on the whole Favre angle, and he said he knows that Favre wants to come back and that the Packers do not want to take him back. That is pretty much established. Now its up to whether or not Favre then files for reinstatement which would force a trade or to be released if the Packers didn't want him. If Favre files, the Packers would then be forced to find a suitor via trade or risk releasing him effectively into the hands of the Bears or Vikings. Favre holds all the cards as he is currently under contract and is free to play if he wishes...

Personally, I like Favre for wanting to come back. He is just handling it totally selfishly imho. I will always have much for love for Favre but he brought this on himself, not the Packers...I think going to Tampa Bay or the AFC would be a classier move on Favre's part than going to the Vikes or the Bears. That just wouldn't be right. I think Miami makes the most sense as for AFC teams, and I don't want anyone to think this thread was started because I wanted the Texans to go out and target Favre. Its someone's elses idea, not mine.

It looks like a few passes to some local high school football players in Mississippi has rekindled Favre's love for the game and I would guess its about a 75% certainty that he'll be playing for someone somewhere in 2008. Wherever it is, rest assured Disney Co. will launch a channel dedicated solely to covering Favre, Yankees, and RedSox....

....oh wait, they already did. It's called ESPN.

Yes, it is definitely something that would never happen, but he's better than anyone that we got right now. A lot better. Yeah, maybe it would be a sideshow but who cares? I don't. I don't think that it could be argued that the Texans would be a more exciting team with a better chance of winning more games, so I'd be all for it. The Texans have never had one winning season, so I'd be all for any improvements. I'm not one of these guys that automatically assumes that the Texans are going to have a winning season. They have a good chance to go 9-7, but they also could easily be at 7-9 just as well. Call me a desperate fan, but I want to see a winning team and Farve would easily make them a better team than Shaub or Rosenfels, so I'd be all for it.
 
I would argue that the Farve thats stands behind center today is not that much, if any, better than what we have. 5 years ago - a complete different story.

He would, but the Vikings are a NFC North rival of the Pack. No way does Ted Thompson allow that to happen. And there's two degrees of separation between Childress & Favre, as opposed to just one with Gruden.
 
One thing I noticed about this article it makes me think that they think we are not stable at QB. I kinda thing we are. We have two capable QB's and possibly a third depending on Alex Brink.

Moving on, after I got over my shock of this article thinking we suck at QB I did look at all the other teams recommended and thought well Houston would be his best fit. We are one of the only teams that is on the edge of being a superbowl contender that is kinda weeble wobble on QB. We have a young defense and a pretty young offense. I would be 1000% cool with B. FAVRE coming here. I was a greenbay fan (because of Favre being from Mississippi) before I moved to Houston and the Texans were born. That would be one hell of a trip for me. Having my favorite player on my favorite team. I would deff. have a Red, white, and also a steel blue FAVRE #4 Jersey.

Yes, he's better than anyone we have right now. He's also got an expiration date on him like a gallon of milk and we're not playing this game for 2-3 more years and then football is done forever (just the thought of that gives me the chills). We're playing year after year after year. Expensive (and yes, he'd cost big money despite his age) band aids will get this team in more trouble than we've had in the past. For all the bad things we can safely say about the C&C Loser Factory the one thing they never resorted to was to grossly overspend for an ancient but famous free agent just to make a splash and get fans in the seats. We don't need that. We need a winning record and our current administration is leading us to one. Panicking and pulling the trigger on some stupid stunt like signing Brett Favre would hurt us, not help us.

One guy, even a QB of Favre's stature doesn't make the Texans a better team than Schaub or Rosenfels overnight and that's what we would be asking him to do. We'll never know the answer to this but I believe that Schaub or Rosenfels with a a years experience in this offense with these teammates (two in the case of Sage) would have a better shot at leading the Texans to their first 9+ win season than an old Brett Favre trying to find his way around Reliant Stadium and remember the names of all his linemen as well as the entire playbook.
 
I like Favre and have always enjoyed watching him play.

But not on my team, not at this point in his career. We are trying to build something, and while Favre still has talent, we don't know if it's a year commitment or longer. You can't plan ahead with a player that is not sure if he still wants to play month to month. It would turn our rebuilding process into a circus, and that's the last thing this team needs right now, IMO.

I say he's going back to Atlanta... and then after that Schaub leads us to 2 SB's and then he'll go there in 2021...
 
From what I heard he's publically said he isn't interested in coming back.

I love Favre and would have loved to see him go back to GB for one more year after getting so close last year. If it's me I would've made the call to be back after throwing the pick on the field. I hope for his own sake it was just a momentary itch to put the pads back on.

I think the Vikings are the easy favorites to win the division next year. With or without Favre on GB, which means they'll have to win a wildcard spot. Anything is possible and there are no guarantees with this... I thought Tennessee would stink last season and they make the playoffs. The 49'ers were looking strong on paper to push for the playoffs last year, etc.

With that said I see the following:
NFC North: Vikings
NFC East: Cowboys
NFC South: Panthers or Bucs
NFC West: Seahawks/Cardinals/Rams/49'ers??????

They have to make one of the 2 wildcard spots and will be competing with the likes of the Giants, Bucs, etc. I don't think they get it done and Favre doesn't make the playoffs. The odds are really against them. So if Favre really wants to go to the playoffs and win a Super Bowl, he's got to go to another team... Bucs seem like a good situation. Kind of a similar boat we're in... we have to make one of 2 wild card spots... and I bet the other would be either the Colts or Jags.
