Hey Everyone, I'm new to the boards here, and I was wondering if everyone liked David Carr. I've seen other message boards that rip on their quarterback, exspecially the Detroit Lions. No one over there likes Joey Harrington. So, do you guys like David Carr, and would anyone rather of taken Joey Harrington in the draft over David Carr.

It is funny, after the texans at lions game this past year there were quite a few people saying that they wish they had Harrington instead of Carr, but I doubt that anyone would admit that now. :)

And not everyone wants Joey gone, much like Texans fans, some of us realize that there circumstances surrounding the QB that lead to their success/failure. The people that want Joey gone are just more vocal than those of us that think he can still work out.

We have a search function. Just look it up. I don't remember much if any Harrington love here from our regular fan base.

:hmmm: HoustonLionFan, I dont know where you got that from it sure wasn't this board. Ol' Bloey Harrington flat out SUCKS! I expect Garcia will be starting after the 2nd or 3rd week for the Lions. He would not have even lasted 2 years with a young team like the Texans.

Ummm, no disrespect, but you've been a member since Feb. and your telling me what I did and didn't see on this board in Sept.? Whatever.

So why does Joey suck? Please explain how his #'s are similar to Carr yet he is so much worse. Hou stayed healthy in the skill areas (ie., WR, RB), Det had a better Oline. They have both had their reasons for lack of production. I believe this is the year (if Det WR's can stay healthy and Hou Oline gets consistency) to judge how comparable they are as far as talent. Oh, and Det. is a young team too, they only have 1 starter from there 2000 draft and none from previous drafts (minus the kicker). They cleaned house and rebuilt, much like an expansion team. That is why Det and Hou are talked about together and made similar drafts

even IF somebody on this board said they would take harrington over carr (really, really doubtfull), why would you assume anyone else would? Look at it like this. If Harrington was a quarterback of comparable caliber to start, they wouldnt have paid all that money to jeff garcia to come in and challenge for the spot. If you see houston spend a HIGH (cause they will spend several low) draft choice on a quarterback to come challenge carr, then come talk to us. But until that happens......keep your harrington and collarbone rogers combo. We in houston are more than satisfied with aj and dc

Well, in my response that the mods deleted (my bad), I stated that I may have overstated. It was at least one person that had said it. As the clueless guy stated Carr was 104 rating, but Joey was 113. 113>104, and Joey got the win. That was why it was said.

Garcia was signed for 2 mil for 1 (ONE) year and is told he is the backup. 2 mil is alittle high, but for a 'quality' backup it is not that much (especially a veteran). Det had no QB's on the roster other than Joey, so a vet was a must. The #3 is going to be a rookie, so why not a vet that knows the WCO system already? So your assumptions about the Garcia signing are just that, assumptions. The Lions have stated publically that Joey is the starter, the fans up there are just so darn impatient that they can't wait for a QB to mature

When you say 'we in houston' am I included? I am in Houston and follow the Texans closely. I mean come on, I have had a favorite team my whole life, move here and am supposed to change favorite teams? But, I will always root for the Texans ('hometown' team) unless they play the Lions.

Here is the big David vs Joey thread that was started after the Texans loss in Detroit. There were a few Texan fans who at the time felt Joey was the better QB. Including a couple of mods. Ask them now, and I'll venture the answer will be different. The overwheming majority of Texan fans believe the team got the right guy.

Like I said above, I overstated. In my original post, you will see that I was implying that David is the choice here (ie., 'although no one would admit it now'). I was just saying that about right after that game. I guess the humor was lost on well, everyone. Hmmm...I guess it wasn't funny then huh? Well, it was meant to be funny.

BTW- I would rather have Carr too, even though I still think Joey will be alright

with all his protection and c rogers and r williams and k jones, and he still cant get it done not to mention mariucci. if iam not mistaken carr was 3rd in the league in rushing for qbs. carr id just the better athlete and is smarter with the football.......way smarter!

You've almost got it, without knowing anything about the Lions...

Crog- less than 5 games in 2 seasons

RW- hurt in the 6th game, never fully recovered. Proof- had offseason surgery

Hakim- played in about half the games this season.

Streets- sucks and was hurt for a couple games.

KJ- Rookie, didn't really light it up until last 7 games, when all the WR's were hurt

At one point in the season, the starting WR's were Swinton (mediocre at best), Scotty Vines (who?), and Kircus (who?). In 2003 Crog went down in the 5th game, and Hakim only played in half the games. 2 'starting' WR's from 2003 aren't even in the NFL anymore. Now imagine what Carr would do without AJ, Bradford and Gaffney, or having Gaffney as the #1 WR with 2 practice squad WR's as the #2 and #3 WR's (ignoring oline issues). See my point?

Nowhere did I say that Joey was better, you all just assumed that. But then you want to say that Joey sucks, and I am just trying to educate ya'll to make a better evaluation (I am assuming most of you have never seen him play more than once or a handful of times). The reason you hear about Joey getting 'benched' is because the fans of the Lions are very negative (2 - 0 start, 113+ rating in the previous game and he still got booed during introductions). They are calling for his head. I personally would like to see a relatively healthy team around him before I make up my mind on his potential. He has not had any continuity with his WR's in 3 yrs, and no run game for 2.5 yrs. If Houston was calling for Carr's head, the media and the rest of the nation would say he sucks, just like what is happening to Joey.

"Smarter with the football....way smarter?"
19 TD's with 12 INT's
16 TD's with 14 INT's

which QB looks smarter with the football?

detroit did too, charles rodgers was the only one injured you still had roy williams and az hakim

Not true- see above.

But, even without Crog, when all the other WR's were healthy, Det was 4-2 (losses to GB and the Eagles) with wins over the Falcons(I believe unbeaten at the time), Bears, Giants (4-1 at the time) and Hou. Joey had over a 100 rating and was the highest ranked 4th quarter passer. After injuries....Joey sucks and it's all his fault (sarcasm)

I'm not going to debate Joey versus David, but I sometimes wonder if a QB was the best choice in that first draft. He has been sacked over 100 times, so you have to wonder if he has formed any bad habits or will develop any injury difficulties before we become true Super Bowl contenders.

I'm in the extreme minority here, and would certainly not want Harrington over Carr, then or now, but I am not so pleased with Carr as most on the board are. He just doesn't seem to have the touch (both on the ball and in the way he moves, runs the team, reads, etc) to be a big time QB. He seems wooden to me and likely not to be the long term answer.

That said, better football people everywhere think he's another Aikman or similar, so who knows. I would have moved for a strong alternative before now, but I missed the meeting where Dom and all the guys made that decision.

Its funny that some people have never gotten over the fact the Carr (Fresno State was chosen over Harrington). They keep coming to the board trying to make comparisions. Cass came to most of the games Carr played his senior year for a reason. They know why they chose him and why they didn't choose Harrington. I think there are more important issues on each team and most of us could care less about the comparison. Thank you, but no thank you.

I've wondered the same thing, but looking at the draft class, there isn't anyone else that was deserving of the 1st overall selection, except maybe Peppers...That was a real hit or miss draft, and I think we hit with Carr, though, so there's no regrets from me...

I think that Carr was definately the best pick for us that year... he may be taking a bit of a beating, but he really is the face of the franchise. :thumbup

Hmm...Carr or Harrington...or a new Texas Lotto Scratch-off: "Armchair to Huddle"-"One lucky Texan will get one season as the starting QB of the Texans. If he produces better results than any of Carr's previous years, he wins five-million dollars." (*odds of winning a shot: 1:14,000,000; odds of winning five-million if you start: 1:2)
