For those of you who would like to know a litte more about Alex Gibbs I was doing some research and found this it's old but it's still a good read IMO.

Alex Gibbs - The most important addition in Texans history
The hiring of Alex Gibbs by the Texans will be the most important signing in Texans history when it is all said and done. Hyperbole? Maybe, but I think that highly of this move.

Gibbs will help on many levels. First of all, he is the absolute bests at getting his linemen to cut block effectively on the backside which is what creates backside running lanes when running zone plays, and with a fast RB, that can lead to big runs.

Gibbs is nasty. He teaches a nasty brand of football to his linemen, but not "dirty". His brand of athleticism up front also lends itself to being able to be successful with the right "fits". This opens up the ability to find "fits" in rounds 5 and beyond which means you can address other positions earlier in the draft.

Me thinks there may be a very thin line between "nasty" and "dirty" as it applies here. But we'll wait and see ?
And as I recall, that was much higher than a "rounds 5 and beyond" pick we used for the one and only OLineman selected in the college Draft since AG arrived on our scene.

I think that just means that Gibbs is okay with the linemen Kubiak has picked since coming here (Winston, Spencer:gun: , Studdard, Meyers, Frye)

Right. Myers, Brisiel, Frye, and Studdard all fit the Gibbs profile of a mid-late round pick, or FA. Winston seems tailor-made for the blocking scheme. Pitts and Weary are out of the old regime, but still have viability as ZBS linemen. And Brown was hand-picked by Gibbs.

I think it's fair to say that Gibbs looked at the Texans offensive line and realized he wouldn't need to make wholesale changes in order to implement his blocking scheme. Just some tweaks. That may have played a big part in his decision to coach here.

I think you can't be nasty unless you'd be willing to be dirty . There's such a fine line or a whistle blow between the two that it's a wash IMO .

I also think one or more veteran players will be out because of consistency of play or they're to soft .

Gibbs was able to do some nice things in ATL even with a line that on its face, didn't look like good ZBS guys.

I think Gibbs wanted to come to Houston because he liked what Kubiak was brewing in Houston.

Agree. If Gibbs did what he did in ATL with the line that they had he could sure do the same with the Texans line.

But the Jaguars are not alone with a run-to-pass ratio that favors the run. I'm getting so excited about this team. Every change we've made is terrific. I really can't wait much long to watch us play some real games. I'm extremely interested in EVERY facet of our game now. I'm going to love watching this season and see how all the players play, improve, and how they take on the system.

what is so great about Gibbs system is it feeds off itself. I think it really is the only proven successful system that sets up the pass with an "established" running game. We will basicly wear out the opposing defenses until they are so demoralized that they try anything to stop the run......then we PASS! I think also the fact that we have such a mix at RB will only add to the bedlam. I really would not be surprised if we kept 4 RB's. It's system based on attrition not on a stud RB, so having 3 or 4 guys rotating constantly as one gets tired just infuriates the defense even more. I can't wait :)

Kubiak won't activate 4 RBs on gameday, unless 1 or 2 are vital special teams performers. Green or Brown will be the starter, with Slaton the 3rd down, change of pace back. Taylor or Walker will need to play special teams to make the roster.
 
The running game will open up the passing game. If the Texans get the D to focuss on stuffing the middle to stop their running game the passing game will be there.

Yup. I can see a lot more one on one's outside if they bring 8 in the box.

Until last year, we could say that Gibbs would not have three QBs either. On another note, the running plays do not have to out number the passing plays for the offense to be successful. I doubt if even the coaches have an exact idea of how the offense will look. There should be much tweeking as the season goes.

I am not a fan of dirty ball in any sport, however, if the rules allow it... I think we should expect to see some sort of payback, if we take out another team's player. After all that is what we would be demanding if Mario got hurt on a cut block.

We still don't know if Kubiak will carry 3 QBs on the roster. It's been lip service, up to this point. Even if he does, the 3rd QB would be the emergency QB on gameday, thus not counting against the 48 man active roster. What TK_Gamer was advocating is keeping a 4th string player on the roster and active on gameday. I'm just saying for that to happen, that 4th RB would need to be a special teams maven.

haven't been invited to Gibbs party yet to smell what he is brewing, but if I where to venture a guess its a style thats deceptivly light bodied, balanced with rock candy & quick mind numbing slam the back door shut knock-out deleivery. probably a stong golden ale like Duvel, Lucifer or Delirium Tremons :drunk:

I don't know man!
I watched the Chargers-Broncos game last year, and it looks as if Shanahan almost completely went away from the ZBS. I still can't figure out why?!
There are other good systems out there.

agreed: Further, adibi & Barber want more than a cup of coffee, they're going to have to play special teams and excel there this summer. Double S is pretty much a lock. What I will say is if he doesn't hustle, especialy on special teams, he makes a great candidate for the "doesn't matter where you were drafted, you don't preform you're gone" message.

This HC isn't going to relive Mathis II. You can book that.

While it would not shock me to have 4 rb on roster, I agree it will probably be 3. Just which 3?

GK doesn't need to activate four backs two is good enough and maybe a third back in case one of them gets hurt. Like Lucky said let the other two play on ST.
