Texans rounding into a team

Maybe I am the only one who feels this way, but I am very happy with the over all organization that McNair has put together. Not only from a quality of player production but "feel good guys." From Smith to Kubes to the other coaches, the players and direction team is headed, I am impressed. Some fans will accept a disruptive player or coach (insert your choice) to get a few more Ws. I want to see a winning season, play offs and SB appearances, but I want to be proud of the organization that took us there.

As a fan, I do not know much about the scouting team but from the selections Smith has made, someone is giving him great info.

Quiet leaders like Andre Johnson, Mario and Demeco cause my emotions to get going. Good solid competition is my style. Best against best. One of the things I like about martial arts fighting is two guys go at it fist and foot and then respect the other' skills regardless of who wins.

no doubt. i gush over how "good" all of our people are. and i don't mean talent. that's a bonus too but i've posted on several occasions about how there seems to be a very tight knit family kind of vibe with this team right now. like it's a secret that not only are we an up and coming team but that we are a very impressive organization. (one of my favorite things that i hope we continue is the shhhhhh end zone dance. it's tasteful, humble and at the end of the day, appropriate. we've been a team to $hit on every year we've been in the league. and last year was the first year that people were saying anything positive about us.

i'm a bit sad that this will be the last year that we can be a shhhhhh team. but i'll trade that for what looks to be a long and prosperous future.

i couldn't be more proud of this organization. bob mcnair has learned from his mistakes and he's doing everything right. i can't think of a single other team that i'd like to be addicted to. we have the magical experience of being apart of the very first era of winning football for this team and nobody else can say that right now.

it's our time. but shhhhhh. don't tell anybody.

It all comes down to Health THIS year. We have made some great moves to get us where we are today despite cap issues. Speaking of the future...we may just have a top team for a long long time on our hands with this regime. I mean if they keep drafting like they have for the next 5 years... LOOK OUT NFL. Our troubles and embarrassments of our first 5 or so years in the league will only pay off with more appreciation for what we have and seem like distant memory soon enough.

couldn't agree more with you guys. looks like we have a great bunch of guys that won't draw a lot of attention to themselves on the field or off. the FO keeps bringing nice players from the outside and it's great watching them build through the draft. let's hope the texans bust out the cellar this year.

I had forgotten to include the salary cap guru. It helps that Smith and Kubes know they will have $ to work with if a player becomes available that can improve team or step in when our guys go down. I am hopeful the Nfl can re-negotiate the amount paid to rookie draft picks. The present system is terrible.

I have voiced concerned before about injuries. It was not just last season that devastated the team. I am not sold on our medical team but maybe I am wrong. I enjoy reading article like the Bulman one and hope that players like Cedric Benson end up elsewhere to wreck a team.

I can't help but agree with almost all of this. I feel the same way. This is the team I thought we were in the process of building from the beginning. This is the kind of progress/pace I expected to see from the start.

Think about it. The expansion draft loaded 2002 Texans were arguably a better team than the one Kubiak inherited following the 2005 season. They had a better record and maybe even better depth in some places. We were regressing badly during the previous regime. I'd make the argument that Kubiak, starting with what we had in 2006 faced a tougher challenge than C&C did starting from scratch.

They (C&C) had all those extra picks and an expansion draft to help them. The further away from that initial wealth of "chances" they got the worse our team became. Kubiak & Smith on the other hand had to clean up the mess without any extra expansion drafts or picks and they've come farther faster.

I would like to have a time machine to go back to 2002 and see what Kubiak and Smith would do in that draft just for giggles and grins .

As far as the team goes I like the group we have but if they don't win ... we're in the same boat . Not being in the police report is a good thing but you got to win .

I remember threads when Kubes was hired reminding folks he was turned down for the coaches job in favor of Capers. Gary was considered too "young" & inexperienced to run an expansion team then. Most us would probably agree he could not have messed it up any worse and where would we be now? Oh, well.

I get emotionally invested in our players as many of you seem to. I like to see a Mario come back from criticism or a Diles being considered starter potential after one year. Look at the posts on Sage for example. How can you not root for the guy? He is definitely not a player that would pull a team apart demanding more time or a trade. Then there is Drob and Charles Spencer. Quality guys in every respect.

That's why I've always rooted for the home teams . It's more personal because of the local media coverage and you feel like you kinda know something about them .

And I have always hated to have to clarify that NO, I'm not Charlie.
NO, I don't think he did a great job.

Further, I absolutely disagree that one can think of the expansion draft at the time as solid ground that a GM can build his team on.

You just have to study the Browns, how they had to rebuild again to appreciate the changing of the time.

Capers, despite his initial "youth" thing, was trying to re-enact luck, which you simply just can't.

From the start, I've felt that he should have taken the lump early, what with the 5 yr contract.

Problem is Capers never was about teaching.
He just wanted to get things done.
If you don't teach your players, you simply can't be a coach.

I'd always heard that the "no players over 30" thing was Casserly's philosophy more than Capers. Young players are cheaper.

If Steve Slaton can develope into Clinton Portis, then things will go quickly faster.

I think Frank Okam's big fat ass may be the key defensive addition this year. Get Taylor Mays or Maluga in the next draft and the defense could be scarry.

Though, I do have dreams of a defense featuring DeMecco and Patrick Willis

You defintely aren't alone in your thoughts. I am very proud to have the organization that we have to call our own.

I do have concerns about building for the future, though....

If the world comes to an end on December 21, 2012 I'd like to see a Super Bowl or two in there before that. Dang Mayans!!

I totally agree. I would like to see what Smith and Kubiak could have done with the 13 picks the Texans were given in 2002. I imagine they couldn't have done much worse than the C&C Factory did.
