Lets assume we trade a 1st and 3rd for Pace

Lets assume we trade out 1st and the 3rd we got from the Cowboys for Orlando Pace.

What do we do with our 2nd and 3rd round picks? How about our next day ones?

Personally I think our 2nd and 3rd will be spent on WR and D-line. Our 4th and 5th would probably be on an interior lineman and a LB, perhaps a "tweener." A TE might be sub in for one of these. What is your take on it?
 
I say we pick up a DT like Luis Castillo in the 2nd or 3rd, and maybe pick up a receiver like Vincent Jackson or Chris Henry. Another possibility would be to pick up a CB with the 2nd Round pick if say Rogers or Washington fall to us, and then go with DLine in the 3rd.
 
While I will not argue that Pace is one of the best LTs in th NFL, we have to be out of our minds if the offer sheet goes through and we lose a 1st round both this year and next. We desparately need to shore up the defense, especially the D-line and losing these for an 8yr vet concerns me. how many more years do you think Pace will provide Pro-Bowl stats?

If they do what we've been seeing, i.e. no offer sheet but a 1st round this year, 3rd round next year and Jamie Sharper, that would be acceptable.
 
I agree with Dline & receiver. Any chance of a trade up into lower 1st round like last year? Guess it depends on who is available.

I think Castillo would be a good pick. The one guy I really like is Jonathan Goddard. In the Georgia-Marshall game Goddard was everywhere. He definitely outplayed Pollack.
Doesn't Chris Henry have a reputation for being a whiner? If he does have some mental baggage then I wouldn't really want him. The one receiver I definitely don't want the Texans to pick up is Mr. Ebay himself, Fred Gibson. I can just imagine how the fans will react when they hear Gibson go across the middle screaming "please don't hurt me!"
 
I think we will either do the required 2 1st rounders for franchise if it goes that far.

If they decided not to the 1st next year. I think a 1st this year and a 2nd next year thats if no players are involved.

If Sharper is involved which i doubt because they signed to LB through Free agency... Sharper 1st and 3rd or 4th next year or this year.

I have also heard wand might be involved but i serious doubt it. This is what if bc i dont think... 1st this year wand and 3rd next year

it will be interesting to see who is involoved in this deal. All we know is that it is atleast 1 pick this year maybe two and 1 the next. I dont think we will trade 2 picks this year.

Yeah Castillo was a guy who I thought could be a steal in the 3rd or 4th, but according to most draft sites his stock is rising fast and he could be gone as early as the 2nd. I love Goddard too. His motor never quit in every game I saw him in last season, but I think most project him to be a early 2nd day pick or perhaps a late 1st day pick. I'm hoping he falls to the 4th or 5th, but with CC running the show you never know what to expect. Henry is a bit of a risk, but he's not much of a whiner. He had some discipline issues his junior season, but he seemed to get past that last season. He's got every bit of potential as any of the projected 1st Round WRs, but his biggest drawback is a lack of experience and maturity. I think he'd be a good fit with us because he wouldn't be called upon to play right away, and he'd be able to sit behind our guys and learn/adjust to the NFL slowly. I really like Vincent Jackson. He's got a terrific size/speed combination. He's like 6'4 240 and runs a 4.5 in the 40. He's got a similiar body style to that of Mike Williams, but I think Vincent is a little bigger. I also wouldn't mind picking up a center like Spencer/Wilkerson/Brown in the 2nd or 3rd. So many players and so few picks.
 
I STILL dont understand why we need a receiver. it boggles my mind.. we have 3 very good receivers and 1.. maybe 2 very promising rookies. yet we want to grab another rookie for god knows what reason.

There will be no loss of two first round picks. It is to be a straight up trade maybe involving this year's 13th pick (in a weak draft). Marcus Spears has been identified as only bonified Dline player in top 13 & supposedly not available that late. Cornerback & Dbacks are set and depth is available in lower rounds. Pace is not just a veteran; rather an all pro & some say 10th best player in NFL and is in the prime of his career. To answer your question, he is expected to be all pro for the next 4-5 years and probably a solid tackle for maybe 2 years after that. A third round pick this year in a weak draft is not as valuable as one in 2006 which is supposed to be much better and we have 2 in 3rd round this year. How could you pass up such a player at such an important position?

Well I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I think we need to pick up a WR is simply for competition. Gaffney seems better suited to play the slot IMO, and AJ is set in as the #1. That means we don't have anyone we can definitively say is our #2 receiver. I think by bringing in a young WR it only increases the competition for a roster spot, and competition often brings out the best in a player. Hopefully this will result in the best possible WR as our #2, but I suspect we'll have a bit of a rotation at the #2 spot. Gaffney will likely be the #2 in some of the base formations, and Armstrong or Starling or possibly whatever rookie WR we pick up may make an appearance there from time to time.
 
well my issue is that I dont see a rookie WR being better than Gaffney or Armstrong.. and I dont see what Gaffney has done that has branded him as "a permenant #3". he has looked good to me and I dont see why we couldnt give him a look at #2.

On top of all that.. we have no TEs :P.. so it shouldnt be that hard to come out with a 3 WR set on a very regular basis. Johnson, Gaffney, and Armstrong seems like a great little WR group that can handle whatever a defense throws at us.

I just dont see it as a necessity. we have plenty to work with at WR, and I think we should give them a shot and see what we have before we use a high draft pick on ANOTHER WR.
 
I was thinking about one in the 3rd or so, but some might consider that a high round pick still. The only way I'd take a WR in the first is if Williamson was the BPA, but it's not lookin like we'd have a 1st. I think Starling will really emerge next season, and his speed will help stretch the field. Gaffney just seems better suited for the slot. He runs great routes, and he's great at picking up the 1st down. With a WR like Starling on the outside opposite of AJ, the defense would likely start out with their safeties deep. After the snap if both AJ and Starling burn down the field the CBs will turn and run with them and the safeties will have to drop farther back. That should open things up over the middle for guys like Gaffney and Armstrong, or a TE (hopefully Joppru) to make a catch for 10 or 15 yards and pick up a 1st down. If the opposing defense wants to shut that down and say drop only one safety deep then Carr can lure the deep safety to one side, and then throw to the other side's deep WR (Starling or AJ) for a big play. Geeze the season needs to start soon.
 
Gaffney isn't good enough to take pressure off of AJ. We need a #2 with some speed or size (preferably speed) to get defenses thinking about him as well as AJ. I don't really see a likely candidate to fit that role on our roster.
 
I dont agree with needing a WR unless we stay @ 13 and one of the big guns drops down and the 2 top CB's are already off the board....with the 2nd rounder: If a CB is available that fell out of the 1st round take him, if not look to draft Baas or Spencer @ Center. Then work on DL, or a Big RB if a good value presents itself
