Texans Sign Mark Fenton

So on the www.HoustonTexans.com transactions page, it shows that we released Derrick Johnson CB and signed Mark Fenton C today. Anyone know anything about him? I'll be honest with you... I'm kind of feeling a bit twitchy about Chris Meyers. We haven't heard much from Kubiak about him. Is this a sign of anything?

Thats weird because I heard Kubiak call Chris Meyers the "leader of the offensive live" in some post-OTA interviews and said he looks really good. The signing is probly just a practice squad move.

Nothing special in my book either, if anything it is a criticism of White or whoever is 3rd string centre on the team. Mabye if you have 4 QB in camp you need extra centre to snap to them.... who knows.

It's not a criticism of anyone. The Texans put one of their centers - Chukky Okobi - on injured reserve a few days ago. He's just a warm body to come in and run the ZBS in practice, as he's (another) ex-Bronco.

You never know though. He could stick enough to make the practice squad. He was a rookie last year.

That's it. That must be why. Solid! Much obliged.

Everything that I came across pointed to the fact that his heart is there, but that strength is an issue and he gets pushed around fairly easily:

POSITIVES: Explosive center with adequate size and growth potential. Quickly gets into blocks, fights hard until the whistle blows and works to finish off opponents. Keeps his feet moving and displays the ability to slide in space. Has a nasty streak.

NEGATIVES: Not dominant in the middle and struggles to finish blocks. A little stiff and haphazard in his movements.

ANALYSIS: A productive center with a good amount of upside, Fenton offers starting potential at the next level if he improves his balance and playing strength.

PROJECTION: Middle Fifth Round
