Why The Benefits?

I was wondering, why is the player's union and all those former NFL players complaing about insurance benefits and not being taken care of by the league? If I am correct these players played in the NFL and probably made a six-figure salary, so shouldn't they be able to afford insurance, etc.? Your thoughts are welcomed....

Umm, no. Not at all. Most of the players that need this financial help played 30-50 years ago and even the best players didn't make close to six figures. As a matter of fact, most of the players in the 50's and 60's had another job in the offseason to make ends meet.

Also, many of these players are not complaining about regular health needs like you or me. You are talking about men in there 50's who have ailments of men in there 80's. Just comes along with the territory of getting brutality hit about 300 times a year.

Try googling Mike Ditka NFL retirement..... Plenty of stuff will come that you can read - about how poorly these guys (pre-1993 CBA) are treated and what their pensions amount to...

The majority of players making solid money is a relative new era in football. Guys from the 60's and 70's and most of the 80's did not ever make huge money.

Cable TV added $$$$$$$ to the table, and all professional sports did well because of it, well except hockey.

I've hired a few ex-Oilers for some really poorly paid jobs in the past (if you really want to be frank about it)....so I know these guys needed the cash. I think the league should take care of the players that put their bodies on the line for our entertainment.
