I thought BJ Symons was playing for the Galaxy in Europe???

Practice Squad
I thought BJ Symons was playing for the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL Europe, but I don't see anything about him in their training camp news.

All they keep talking about is the three quarterbacks "Akili Smith, Jason Gesser and Kevin Eakin"

Does anyone know what happened to BJ?

Personally, I think Bj symons will never be a starter in this league, and i dont think any one on the team noticed hes gone. He might never even take a snap as a Texan in his career. He was good in college, but than again how couldn't you put up impressive numbers when you run a standard playbook for 5 wr's and no rb?

umh...that's not right...we always have atleast one runningback in our formation...we pass almost every down but we do have a runningback in on every play...his name is henderson...and bj can be a great success story in the nfl...he has a brett farve mentality and a cannon for an arm...people seem to write him and kliff kingsburry off because of the system they were in but when it comes to USC's quarterback's there is nothing wrong with them...it's the same offense...how do i know that because mike leach(tech's head coach) worked under norm chow at BYU who ran the same offense...so the who it's the system doesn't really work for me...bj is a solid qb who just needs a chance...i'd take him as my starter over half the starting nfl qb's right now cause i know he'll never quit...he'll never give up

Thanks Keyfro. BJ was awesome in college. He played 1/2 of his season with a torn ACL at Tech knowing it would hurt his draft status. Now that's heart. Comparing him to Farve is perfect. There may be more gifted QB's (i.e. Vick, Culpepper, Carr) but I would take him over the likes of Peyton Manning, Rivers, and Henson (who almost every Cowboy fan thinks is their savior even though the Texans didn't want to touch his rights). All he needs is a chance. I love Carr, and I'm not looking to replace him, but if BJ touches the ball....well, lets just say he's set a record or two before.

Sorry I was so late on this.

Ok guys i love ya since your texans fans but i think you boys have gone crazy. B.J. Simmons as a pro qb is insane. He is a #3 at best. The pro scouts know what they are doing, he would be playing now if he were good enough.

Comparing a leihnart and a simmons is also ludacris because the red raiders run an offense that would never work in the nfl and the trojans run one that will probobly succeed. Hence, Norm Chow is a nfl coordinater now.

B.J. simmons is also a very little qb which is a big problem for nfl scouts to over look.

Tom Brady was a 6th rounder and he seems to have worked out for the Pats :hmmm:...

I'm not saying B.J. = Tom Brady, but at least give him a chance to get onto an NFL field before you pass judgement on him...

Should we bench D. Carr then? I don't think that makes any sense. He has played well when he is on his feet. Hopefully Pace will keep him on them. I dont see any way we can keep simmons here long enough to get him on field exposure either to trade him or to start him over a player that has as much invested in him as carr does. Its all about who will help us the most. We need to improve what we are the weakest at. I promise you it is not the qb position nor is it the rb position like many think. It is o-line, d-line and lb which we need to fix first.

I'm not saying bench Carr; all I'm saying is that it's hard to pass judgement on a player we haven't seen go up against NFL competition, regardless of if it's preseason or regular season...

Give him a chance before you say he has no chance to make anything of himself...

Symons was late to the Galaxy's training camp because he was in Houston getting a physical, but he is going against 3 other QBs for the starting job over there. On the NFL Europe page there was a small blurb about him:

The return of quarterback B.J. Symons (Houston Texans) gives the Galaxy another quality passer fighting for a starting spot. Symons returned to Houston to have his knee checked out, and only got back into practice yesterday[March 10th]. He throws the ball with good velocity and moves well despite the history of problems with his knee.

From what I can tell from the practice dates for the Galaxy the first time Symons will probably get to really show off his stuff will be on Wednesday (the 16th).

Have you not ever seen BJ play a game? The UT game (in Austin) when he almost single handedly brought Tech back into the game or the Oklahoma State game when he was getting killed in the backfield and still led the Red Raiders back into the game in the 4th quarter (in Stillwater). In both games he played to the crowd and put his index finger to his facemask as to tell them to "Shhhhhhhhh!!!"

Yes, the offense at Tech is great but why hold that against a QB? He's just doing his job. Do we hold it against a MLB with 100's of tackles in a MLB friendly defense where every position's job is to hold the O-Line off the MLB? No, we don't. Wait, that's the Texan's Defensive strategy isn't it? The 3-4.

no decision has been made yet, I imagine as training camp goes on it will become more apparent, I think Akili is the favorite at the moment but Symons just got there so he maybe to beat him out for the job. His workout today will probably be a good indicator.

As a future TTU student, I say just give B.J. a chance. The guy played half the season with a torn ACL, while most NFL QB's of today don't play (or considered "doubtful") because of a broken finger. Just because the offense TTU runs is pass-dominant, they still found the time to run the ball, and run the ball effectively. (This offense, by the way, is what beat #4 Cal's Defense. Either our offense was too much for them, or the crowd at the bowl game was right: OVERRATED :coolb: )

I think B.J. can get the starting spot for the Frankfurt Galaxy, and he's gonna show us all what he can do next pre-season.

This is funny to me. :woot Bj Symons will never make it in the NFL.... Why dont they just give every QB he wants a chance too... He is a number 3 QB, and will probably be out of the league in 3-5 years.

Try to see around your red raider glasses you have on. I would love to think Sloan Thomas will make it in the league, but he wont, and will have the same fate BJ will have, out of the NFL in five years.

I'm not saying to give him a starting spot right now, just a chance. The guy has the toughness to do it.

Hey, how's your boy Ricky Williams these days? :howdy:

I have never seen BJ play, but the one think I hear is that he may have that intangible desire. Over the years some of the best QB's have not been gifted, but the results were. Certainly Montana was someone every team would like to have had. Unitas was another one. Brady is currently in that category. They are called winners and they are a special lot as they find a way to win the big ones. Its like talking about Chamberlain and Russel in the NBA. Russel was and will always be a winner. Some people put up numbers, but they never make it to the big dance.

So true...look at all the strong armed QB's like Jeff George who had trouble
making a team, let alone staying on one..and Unitas barely made it out of
Louisville with little college fanfare and mediocre arm but, man, could he
play and win! :)

people seem to write him and kliff kingsburry off because of the system they were in but when it comes to USC's quarterback's there is nothing wrong with them...it's the same offense...how do i know that because mike leach(tech's head coach) worked under norm chow at BYU who ran the same offense

They worked together but they don't run close to the same offense. The main difference it that most of Tech's plays are run out of the shotgun, while USC is rarely, if ever, in the shotgun. Also, USC's offense is based on a power running anchored by LenDale White. Leinart and Bush are great but one of the most important stories leading up to the orange bowl was white's health. Yes I know that tech does sometimes run the ball, but it is mostly a spread them out pick your hole style. I think the only thing similar is that both team's offenses try to score points.
