Dolphins to sign ex-Texan McKinney

Former Texans offensive lineman Steve McKinney plans to sign with Miami today and expects to start working out at the Dolphins' facility Monday.

McKinney was injured much of last season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn knee ligament.

"It's hard for me to leave Houston because this is my home, but I think Miami is a good opportunity for me," McKinney said. "They've got a new group, a good organization, and I think they're going to turn it around pretty quick."

New Miami coach Tony Sparano is a former offensive line coach.

"They said they want to put their five best linemen on the field," McKinney said. "I can play guard or center. They've got a lot of young linemen, and I think I can help because of my experience."

McKinney was the first veteran free agent the Texans signed in 2002, and he played six years in Houston.

This is a sad day. He was a great guy, a good football player, and he was fun to listen to on the radio.

Good luck to you Steve. We will miss you.

Wrong section by the way.

Not really. There were alot of people around here that thought McKinney would be back. I thought our line looked best with him at C. Never caredfor him at G. Was fun to listen to on the radio. Could have a future in broadcasting.

No, it was the wrong section. McKinney is not a Houston Texan.

Not really.
Really. If it was "McKinney retires", that would belong in the Texans section. Signing with the Dolphins makes this a NFL story.

I thought McKinney would end up with his buddy Peyton, in Indy. But, I can see why the Dolphins made this move. They released a Guard last week, Drew Mormino, and had a rookie 4th round pick running 1st team RG in mini-camp. With all the young players on that line, a vet like McKinney should give them some stability.

McKinney is also a straight forward non-finesse blocker...someone who is a better fit with Parcells philosophy probably.

Steve played well for us, seemed like a good guy and did good interviews on the radio and such and I wish him well, but when we play them, may he a scrotum rash such that he can't walk.:headhurts:

I was hoping he would be back. Oh, well. I hope this is a sign of how good the guys we picked up are. Good luck Steve.

Doesnt his brother play for the dophins?

Not anymore but they did have a whole bunch of McKiney jerseys lying around however so they thought they would save on making a whole new bunch of jerseys and just sign Steve to replace Seth.

Rumours are they are also trying to find a person with the name of Culpepper to play either QB, K, P or WR.

well if hes going to start for them, he'll be moving back to G cos he wont beat satele for the C spot..

best of luck

I'd be surprised if he breaks the starting lineup without someone getting injured. I'm pretty sure they just signed him for depth and locker room presence.

That's a little sad, McKinney was a very solid player for the team. More solid than Flanagan, at the very least. All the best, Steve.
