ESPN said:
After missing all of the 2006 and 2007 seasons due to violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy, the Cincinnati Bengals have decided to cut ties with linebacker Odell Thurman.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Steve Wyche said on ESPN's "First Take" program that one of Thurman's agents received a call from Bengals coach Marvin Lewis on Monday morning to announce the decision to waive the former second-round draft pick.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had reinstated Thurman on April 21.

After Goodell's decision last month, Lewis spoke about what the future may hold for Thurman...

I remember him as a solid player in college and a tackling machine in the pros. Sad how it's played out though. Hopefully he'll get the guidance he needs elsewhere.

Wow. You've got to be a liability if the Bengals are willing to cut you due to character issues. With their LB corp as weak as it is I fully expected them to keep Thurman.

Thurman's rep: Release by Bengals came after dispute over family issue

The Cincinnati Bengals released middle linebacker Odell Thurman on Monday and, according to one of his representatives, the move was due to a dispute over the amount of time Thurman was away from the team dealing with a family matter.

Thurman, reinstated by the NFL on April 21, already was on a short leash with the Bengals after missing the past two seasons for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He missed the past several weeks of organized team activities to be with his ailing grandmother, who recently died, according to his representative, Safarrah Lawson.

The funeral for Thurman's grandmother was on May 12 and the Bengals wanted him to rejoin the team for workouts soon after, Lawson said. But Thurman remained with his family in Georgia through Monday, at which time the team informed him he was no longer a Bengal.
If true - Wow. It's been 2 years. Whats an extra two weeks? Then again sometimes a little more is simply too much.
