Per HT.com he underwent arthroscopic surgery because of his knee injury he suffered last year. But he should be fine by the upcoming training camp.

Whhhhatt He injured the knee last year and waited until the voluntary camps are scheduled to have it repaired.
Garnering reps in Johnson's place is second-year wide receiver Jacoby Jones, who looked sure-handed during team drills on Monday.
I'm confused as to why he waited so long to have the surgery. Was he waiting to see how he would practice on it?
"I came back out during offseason workouts and it kind of flared up on me again. So we just took it from there.”
Arthroscopic surgery's not that big of a deal......unless the "clean up" has something to do with removing cartilage.
That's BS!! Anytime you mess with a joint, for any reason, it's a big deal! They can sweet talk this all they want, but, I expect it to be a bigger deal than they want the fans to know. They've been down playing his injury from the start, and now TWO surgeries later they want us to believe it's NO BIG DEAL?? I don't buy it!! JMO!

assuming that Johnson will be fine, there is a real positive in that story.
if i remember correctly, last year Davis was listed as Johnson's back up and Jones backed up Walter.
It may just be a "more reps for young guys" thing. But It may be signs that Jones will come back strong.

My comment was from my personal experience.
I'm gonna bury my head in the sand and pretend I didn't even read this thread.
Sorry HT, I wasn't aiming any comment at you. I just don't think this is as minor as everyone wants to believe. We all know by now that the TEXANS have not been completely up front with whatever info they want to put out about AJ. There has to be a GOOD reason for another invasive procedure, esp this late in the season, and I don't think it is good news. BUT, that's JMO!

Well, Im concerned. Hes missed a lot of time. Hes got the inflammation in the pelvic area, is the best way I can describe it. Hes way behind the team from a physical standpoint. Nothing he can do; theyve had him resting. Before I put him on the football field, I want to make sure he catches up with his teammates conditioning-wise, so youll just see him conditioning at the time.
(on where DT Travis Johnsons injury came from) Well, its kind of been somethings that bothered him before and then it crept up again back in February, early March. And weve tried a few different scenarios. He had an injection the other day that were waiting to see how he recovers from. He has felt better. He ran Friday, he ran today, so well see.
"Hes not feeling well, so we just told him to stay at home. Hopefully, hell be in here tomorrow and everything will be OK.
I think the whole time frame of the surgery shows a problem, He shoud have been in in January of February. Whay this late in the off season?
My first reaction was another year another player who has an injury that is more serious than the texans have previously indicated.
I was upset/stunned/sad when I heard this earlier. knees + Texans make me nervous.
What worries me is the quiet speculation that we heard last year that the injury might have been a continuation from the 2005 injury and that this might be a chronic problem from here on out. Obviously an 80% AJ is one of the best recievers in the league but if we have a chronic knee issue that keeps him from playing 16 games a season we have serious problems.
Not much information has come out so the most we can do right now is be cautiously optimistic.
*taking offers to the football gods for sacrifices for Dre's knee*
I will defer to CND on this issue, but as I understand what was announced with his back of the knee pain in both 2005 (back of knee/calf pain) and 2007 (sprained MCL/PCL), it is the type of injury that you don't typically fix with surgery. That it needs rest and strengthening.
I am guessing that this is cleaning up other stuff.
Travis Johnson is missing more time as well.

My first reaction was reflecting on how many NFL players don't make it into their 6th season without having a knee scope or two. Enjoy him while we have him. Too bad some of his best years were wasted on those crappy teams.

To try to simplify the explanation as much as possible. The most likely scenario is that when you have a severe MCL/PCL strain/tear, you have some significant unnatural sliding of the joint surfaces at the time of trauma and subsequently due a period of joint instability, which can lead to breaking off of small particles of the apposing joint cartilage surfaces. These particles float around in the joint (much like medial meniscus injuries) and intermittently get stuck in and grind away at the joint surfaces, thus propagating inflammation and pain. The more vigorous movement (likely accelerated at minicamp), the more inflammation and the more pain. Until a "clean up" is performed, the chain of events are unlikely to cease..........in fact, they would be expected to worsen, despite intermittent periods of rest. That's my best shot at what's going on.
He's spent his offseason rehabbing. Any chance they should have figured this was going to be a problem earlier?
Generally, what is the prognosis after this sort of cleanup?
/doesn't trust information coming from Texans given Domanick Davis/Williams, Ahman Green, and Andre Johnson being "week to week" last year, so I'd like to find out other info.
He's had plenty of time to recover from his PCL injury. We must though keep in mind that depending on the original severity of the injury, he MAY be at increased risk for reinjury. But I think the residual "floating" cartilage is his present problem and, if these particles have not already created further major abrasive damage to the joint, with clean up scoping his chances for coming back quickly and to full speed is excellent. This is one full recovery which I have more confidence in actually happening.
So, essentially, this scope is actually something that should have been reasonably expected given the nature of his injury, and (1) might actually improve the healing process and (2) decrease the risk of re-injury by removing irritants in the joint?
