mario vs tackling dummies

after seeing that clip i'm a bit excited about him. alot of people speak very highly of him that follow UT. Personally I expect him to flop BECAUSE he went to UT. So many of there players flop at the pro level. But he looked like a beast in that clip!

Realizing I'm comparing him mostly to DTs, Mario looked in a whole other league in that drill from the rest of the group.

Okam is gonna have to play lower than that if he wants to use all that weight as leverage.

You could hear Franklin telling him he was running too high.

Okam looked pretty slow there. He had a hard time hitting the dummy with his hands, I thought.

I'd like Jethro to throw on an uniform and some pads. That man can hit!!

Bulman and that other UDFA (Long) looked pretty slow compared to Amobi and Okam. I thought Zgonina looked pretty slow as well.

Mario better bring that kind of stuff on gameday. He looks unreal.

Actually, Mario kinda made everyone else look slow.
Man if he punches like that on game day, somebody might get knocked the **** out

Wonder why N.D. wasn't doing the drill....?

Right after Coach Franklin told them to keep their elbows in tight and then extend, pushing the dummy to the side... Okam goes and does this limp wristed slapping thing that the coach just got finished telling them NOT to do.

Mario looked the best by far.... but Okoye looked pretty good in that drill, and I thought Tim Bulman looked good as well... though his footwork seemed off.

Okam.. athletically he looked good enough.. but his technique was very shoddy...imo anyway.

Course he is a rookie and I dont think anyone expects perfect, or even good, technique from a rookie.

Lets just hope he is coachable.

Oh.. and lets also keep in mind that this is a 30 second clip of a single drill against tackling dummies.... cant really make any kind of sound judgement about a player from that.

Seeing Coach Franklin show the proper way the drill is done and then watching the guys progressively loose the technique as they ran dow nthe line was interesting. Most started slapping at the dummies like Grid pointed out. Helps us lay people knowing how it supposed to work.

I was browsing the videos on the Texans site earlier and the video of Okam made me do a double take . I was very impressed ! It was definitely an attention getter . I hope he can turn out to be the sleeper that comes in and dominates !

What I've seen of Okam has impressed me. The dude can move for such a heavy guy. I didn't see anything to get disappointed in.

McLain was talking about Marquey Love from U of H in a couple of his videos. He said he was impressed with his speed (not that that means anything). I didn't even know we brought him in for camp. It looks like he's slimmed down from his college days.

I highly doubt he makes the team, but it'd be a good story if he did.

You can hear coach Franklin screamin' in the background. "Been DOING this too damn long!!"

At Frank Okam, Coach Franklin screams, "C'MON ELEPHANT!!! LET'S GO!!!"

Gotta love Coach Franklin.

Mario Williams, DE, Houston Texans. At times this spring, Williams has looked unblockable. “If you watch practice right now, you see him at another level,” coach Gary Kubiak says. “Football is very important to Mario, and he’s working his way toward a big, big year.” Those words should grab the attention of Houston’s opponents, especially because Williams had 14 sacks in 2007.

I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing

does that mean our OL stinks (bad thing)
or
that Mario is just very focused (good thing)

Considering Mario is what 6-7, 295 and is as quick and powerful as any DE out there.... I would say its more him than anything. I am thinking there arent going to be very many if any Tackles out there who are going to be able to handle this beast who is about to truly breakout this year and become something very special.

I'd have to say a majority of it is because MW has been more focused and is concentrating on work.

Having said that, I think Duane Brown being a rook would enhance MW's production a tad bit. BUT, at the same time, MW ripping Duane a new one every now and then would only help Brown's transition to the NFL.

Take it for what it is, but Antwan Peek looked awesome in camp against our OL two seasons ago as well, and Peek had a disappointing season.

We won't know until they line up against fresh bodies.

Kubiak coached Peek in his first season and never really had anything close to say good about him as he has with Mario.
