I posted this in the prayer request forum, but, I know some of you don't go there so I wanted to post it here also. Maricie's son Kyle is having surgery this morning to repair a severely broken arm that will require stabilization with pins. He and his cousin were riding a 4 wheeler and had a crash. Marcie was pretty upset last night when I talked to her so I don't know all the details, but, will get back with you all when I find out. I'll be talking to her later on this morning.

I know she would appreciate it if everyone would send up some prayers for Kyle. Nothing is more frightening to a parent than when something happens to their child!!

DONE!!

Marcie, don't hesitate to call if you need something!!!

****************************************

Thanks G'ma for letting us know, and please keep us updated!

As always when prayers are needed I will jump on board.
Count me in, done! Hope all is well today Marcie!

Marcie,

Kathryn and I feel for what you are going through. It is a tough time and if you need to talk or if you need anything else, give us a call.

How old is Kyle? it's always a terrible thing when your kids get hurt, let's thank the Lord it was JUST a badly broken arm! Kids heal so quickly, our friends six year old has 8 pins in his wrist and forearm, the cast came off about a month ago and little Collin is playing back on the monkey bars.

Hang in there Marcie!

Just got a call from Marcie and Kyle made it through surgery just fine. They did not have to put pins in, just a cast up past his elbow. Kyle is 12.

Seems like Marcie has a little hero on her hands also. He and his cousin were riding the 4 wheeler up a hill, hit a bump and the thing flipped them over, backward. The 4-w'er landed on top of them. Kyle put his arms up to break the impact of the thing and it smashed his hand backward, ending with a major compound fx. They were both able to crawl out from under the satan machine, that's what I call those da*n things!! Just thinking about what COULD have happened makes my blood run cold. God above protected those two little boys from a major head or spinal injury.

Marcie sends her thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. God is good, this could have been so much worst!!

Just now seeing this thread, sorry to hear about it. Thanks for the update SheTexan and glad he's going to be OK. Thoughts and prayers are with him for a speedy recovery.

Thats the truth. I'm glad he made it out of surgery fine!

Absolutely !! Glad to hear he is ok...and the cast, that's his badge of honor !!

Marcie - Thank God he's OK and that the surgery went well. I wish Kyle a speedy recovery (and you some rest)! If there's anything the BC can do for you, just let us know.

We just got home an hour ago and Kyle is settled in for the time being...not sure how this will go without the nurses button handy he now has a bell by his side. It took 5 attemps for a figgin IV line, needless to say I was a bit ticked off!!! Kyle will turn 13 the end of the month... many many thanks and more to come but I need to get things organized here besides taking a bath and no sleep someone 6' tall doesn't fit well on a 3' couch!!

I will post more tomorrow...but bare with me my computer will not power on so I am having to try to figure out my daughters lap-top!!

Here is a picture of the break in his wrist it was the two major bones and the side bone of your wrist that sticks out with his age and youth on his side they did not have to pin it like they first told us.

I broke my left arm at 13 riding a bike and my right arm a year later skate boarding at 14. And because of my youth and prolly the fact I loved to drink milk my bones healed quick.

The first one I broke at 6 PM and did not get it set until 1:30 AM the next morning because my parent's could not afford insurance. It was horrific, then it grew back crooked and the Dr said I would have to have it re-broken and re-set to which I replied "over my dead body". Any way I bring it up because what was crooked was the angle the bone goes in the wrist bones. After seeing a specialist, he said since I was young and the break / healing bone was on a growth plate and I was still going to have growth spurts that it would straighten out itself over time and it did for the most part.

To make a short story long, as you said, Kyle's youth is on your side and as seems to have made the difference.

Glad y'all are home safe.

Glad to hear all went as well as it did. Now that he is OK, its time for you to pour yourself a stiff one and let out a big sigh of relief. :shades:

Except that a little birdie told me - now her daughter is home sick - not to mention the 15 demon spawn that she looks after every day..... :gun:

Well not that I can let the cat out of the bag yet but there are other things a brewing as well. More stress for her than the prom, but a good stress.

Thank you everyone for all the prayers and well wishes for my son Kyle. We finally got him in the bath tub last night and that was quite the event He had a rough night before he went to bed but thank goodness for pain pills...now mom needs some after stepping in and doing his chores....ducks run really really FAST! Tomorrow he will try to go back to school *thank god* I am sure some cute girl will help him around and be his nurse maid at school. This has only taken me 45 minutes to write so I need to end it here.

Some of you have already met Kyle but here is a picture of him from this fall.

I just showed Kyle all of these posts and from the other thread and man you should have seen the smiles on his face and giggling that went on!!! Laughter is the best medicine...he loved the "chicks dig scars" and he even laughed at Bill's comment about "shooting" the ducks which surprised me..Thanks everyone for making him smile...now he is plotting on when we head back down to Houston to see everyone again.. AFTER he heals up!!!!

Handsome looking young man. Glad he's doing well. I understand what you went through. My son's now 15 and we have several Hospital memories as well.

And yes, chicks DO dig scars/casts. My son can attest to that.

*UPDATE*

Kyle just got done with an xray this morning and it showed the bones are lined up right and healing:specnatz: I'm not sure how because this hasn't kept him down last night he was push mowing one armed AGAIN and also weed eating...I should have taken a picture of him. They trimmed part of the cast off so that he can move his fingers better. Two weeks he will get a smaller cast below his elbow!!!

Thanks to everyone who has continued to inquire and pray.

Marcie

He is not thrilled about the no swimming...but then again it might finally be warm enough to do so in 6 weeks lol My biggest worry this spring is poision oak...it seems to seek him out every spring and fall. What the hell do you do if you get it on your fingers or upper arm and it spreads under the cast?

That I have no idea, I am one of the lucky ones and I am not allergic to anything.

Hopefully he will be sparred this year or you catch it in time and prevent it spreading there.

Easy answer! Keep him away from it!!:doot: Sorry Marcie, couldn't pass that one up. I know you live in the boonie's where poison oak is probably everywhere, BUT, best advise I know of is prevention. Tell him to STAY AWAY from that stuff!!

You know all those wire hangers that Mommy Dearest threw out???.. You'd be surprised how well they can be shaped and manipulated when a person wearing a cast has an itch.... :thisbig:
:winky:

Fantastic news! :D

That's great to hear. I'll bet his age, or lack of it, will keep him from being arthritic in the future like my wrist. Sounds like he's home-free. Excellent news!

Glad to hear your son is doing well & healing nicely. My son will be 6 soon. I caught him swinging upside down yesterday. I wasn't too happy, but I guess it's part of growing up. Have to go. He just made a mess of my wife's Mother's Day cake :headhurts:

Kyle you need to swim as soon as you can to build muscle in your arm. When I was 15 I hurt my arm and was told not to swim, Come on put a removable cast on me and tell me not to swim, Anyhoo I succeded to strengthen my arm and gained 99.9% movement when the doctors said I would not get 60% movement.

I remember after getting my cast off for a fractured wrist in 7th grade and coming home the first thing I did was get in the pool for a swim...it HURT like no other I thought it was still broken. I also swam the entire time with the cast on...think of a shark but I would swim on my side with my arm straight up out of the water.

Thanks Joe, swimming will be his best bet in recovering!!!

You can remember that long ago??

I need a Texan Bill translator.

He is going to fly to Iowa and show up at her job and stalk her. To bad she works from home and has the shotgun near by just incase he actually does show up. The hogs need to be feed anyway.

An Aggie feeding the Hogs?!?? Sounds good to me.
