Criticism of the pick is definitely understandable and I expect it. Emotions always run high at first so once things calm down, it should all be good.

I'm really interested in how soon he's able to pick it up and give us significant playing time. I've been prepared for Salaam being our starting LT the majority of next season for a while. That's fine but I really hope Brown is fully ready by 2009 season and even gives us some starts by the end of this season.

Brown-Pitts-Myers-& Winston I think are long term locks. Now its up to Brisiel/Spencer/Frye/Studdard to fill that RG spot. I'd love to see Spencer be able to give us some mammoth run blocks.

Here's to a HEALTHY season next year, we've got the players for our OL now, we've got the coach (Gibbs) for our OL now, all we need to do is stay healthy and learn the system.

since 2002 people have been making the same moronic, worthless, ignorant and immature statements. The same dip******s never seem to learn from their idiocy the previous season.

It gets really old after a while.. especially because alot of real fans feel that the behavior of their fellow fans reflects upon them... so when you have a slew of jackasses making blatantly stupid comments.. well.. some of us feel like you are making US look stupid to. Or at least I do.

whatever the case..it can get really old and really frustrating when it happens year after year.

I understand your pain. The ebb and flow of emotions here is unbelievable sometimes. As I said earlier today, it is a different regime. They have made good picks. they have found random FAs to fill holes some seasons. Its learning to trust. We got 2 extra picks and they got a guy that the O-line guru wanted. You have to nod your head, trust and wait and see. I'm all about the sexy picks but maybe that was the problem in the past and just getting the right fit is best here.
 
I wasn't around here for the MW draft and I'm glad I wasn't, I can't imagine what it was like then. For once I actually have faith in the Texans FO. I trust Gibbs along with Kubiak and Smith far more than the haters and media.

People get their hearts set on a player who may or may not be a total bust in the NFL and get pissed when the Texans pass on him. We're all fans of the Texans and should back the FO because we know that they are intelligent in drafting now.

I believe that most of us have concerns on whether or not we got value at the #26 pick. We passed on both Mendenhall and Jenkins for him so some of us are a little upset by it. Deal.

That's fine but you should find a more sophisticated manner of expressing yourself. This 2008 NFL draft forum was setup just recently and so I don't have moderator rights in here. If I did I would have already deleted the thread.

I doubt it survives once one of the admins sees it.

Really.. i personally have tried the tactful and logical approach..and it doesnt work. Its much more gratifying to call them what they are and move on.


Also..why does everyone against the pick insist on comparing it to previous picks...by a different coaching staff...in a different year....with different circumstances. Ya know..there is no "science" to the draft.. no one is a sure thing. You might as well just bite the bullet and call it gambling because that is exactly what it is. You are rolling the dice no matter what round you are drafting in..or what position you are drafting.

but whatever.. you can ***** all year long if you want.. but if you are proven wrong, I really hope THIS time..you FINALLY learn from it..and STFU next season. Cause honestly..im really tired of people who do not even have the capacity to give a new player a shot before they deride and ridicule.

we passed on rashard or jenkins for brown and whoever we pick at #89 and in the 6th btw
 
in the last 5 years the Texans have traded away every 2nd rd. pick except for 2006 (DeMeco) then this year the format changed to only 1st & 2nd rds on the first day, leaving teams like the Texans with only one pick for the day. then that pick is someone hardly known by many, I think its only natural to vent frustration not just with the pick but the lack of capability that has loomed over this franchise for several seasons.

I hope for a recovery of sorts with a full compliment of 2nd day picks. there's bound to be some really good football players yet to be added, plus I think from this day forward its a new beginning for the Texans. they'll have a clean slate, basicly all their own players, the cap situation will be fixed & hopefully the new bargining agreement gets done which helps the infrastructure of the league to remain vital & healthy.

Don't worry or put alot of stock in what ESPN & other national networks write, none of these draft picks have proven anything yet, its going to take at least a couple or three years to see results. Rick & Gary are being very prudent & setting up for a bright future :)
 
Well as I've already mentioned a few times:

I had my heart set on Cason once we traded back, but we came out of the 1st with a LT, which is our #2 need, IMO.

Snag a DB & maybe a DE or a RB in the 3rd, plus add some depth later on & we can chalk this up as ANOTHER solid draft by our Texans.
 
Look here buddy, and I'm speaking for myself.....but after 6 months of college scouting/mock drafts/fantasy scenerios it's understandable why some people here, including myself, would initially be upset at the Texans pick. There's no doubt we reached, but we got a legit LT who will be groomed to protect Matt Schaub. No way in hell would ANYONE predict a Duane Brown selection. I'm finally at peace with the pick but I'm hoping he can bring some nastiness to our o-line.

I think Spec's post does an excellent job of getting the point across. Anyone who thought the Texans was going to take a RB (let that soak in), a RB in the 1st round was smoking some good stuff.

Has any team that Gibbs has been on the coaching staff ever taken a RB in the 1st round? Hmmm?

This is the thing I hate about the boards: It's supposed to be an opinion, but you can't have yours unless it matches up with someone else's. And then people like Specnatz and Grid become the opinion police and try to rehabilitate us poor, uneducated fans.

SWT got the same crap thrown at him that I have for what I think about Schaub. And what does SWT get told to do? "Grow up," or "You're not a fan," or other lecturing from the holier than thou professors of this board.

We don't know if they reached cause all you base your post on is the crap that spews forth from Kiper and PFW and McShay and whatever else you accept to being sponn feed.

Thankgully Kubiak and Skith ans Gibbs have acces to and studied hours of tape, actually talked to the kid, and more then likley have watched his work in position drills.

I will always trust Smith and Kubiak over every single poster on this board combined, and I would think that succes we have had in the last 2 drafts would have bought them some benefit of the leeway...but I quess there are others who still think they are smarter then the guys being paid to make the picks.

FYI, it's impossible to judge a players ability in the NFL before he has played a single game in the NFL.
 
This is why I am spending the weekend watching Babylon 5.When The Texans front office want my input on the draft , then you know the team has hit hard times!

My username is meant to be ironic since I registered in '06 in the midst of a 6-10 season. I can only hope that we do have bandwagon fans this year. However, a bandwagon fan I am not.
 
All I can say is I wanted a CB a little more, but I'm fine with this. I won't know whether to complain for a long time. Hopefully, I'll never feel a need to.

Dude, put your internet muscles to rest and chill. No one here gets paid by the Texans to scout picks, so we all have opinions based on mocks/television/talking heads/big boards. You can have a difference of opinion on a message board, so quit being "that guy" who wants to moderate everyone's opinion. We all cheer for the same team.
