Anyone interested in a Studebaker?

Veteran
Andy Studebaker, that is. :D

He looks like a solid young late round prospect at DE. They mention his size forcing him to OLB, but 6'3" 255lbs. is about right for a 4-3 DE. Any one interested?

Overview

Andy is one of the finest small school defensive ends in the country who has put up monster numbers the past two seasons for the Thunder of Wheaton (IL) College. He was named a first-team All-American by Football Digest following the 2006 season, and a first-team preseason (2007) All-American by CDS. Unfortunately, his 2007 season was cut short by a season-ending foot injury that required surgery, and he was not healthy enough to take part in the post-season all star games or the Combine. However, he came back on 4-18-8 to put up one of the most phenomenal pro day workouts ever for a defensive end. Had he been at the Combine, he would have placed first among DEs in the short shuttle (4.14), the 3-cone drill (6.81), the broad jump (10'7"), the vertical jump (36.5") and placed third in the forty-yard dash (4.60). His short shuttle and 3-cone numbers are equivalent to the best numbers put up by DBs at the Combine. The buzz is very late, but very loud for this small school stud.

Strengths

Amazing physical gifts for a small college prospect. Great DE speed. Good spin moves. Reads and reacts. Chases very well. Very strong in both the upper and lower body. Could have played for most IA programs. Very productive at a very low level of competition. Really gets after the QB and finishes. Has a frame to add 10-15 pounds, easily. Smart, coachable, with a very solid character.

Weaknesses

Needs to not sellout to the QB w/o watching for the RB. Gets fooled too much. Still raw with some of his technique. Gets too high and can be buried even at this level by OTs who know how to take advantage of that. LOC is a huge concern. Bit of a one-trick pony. Will have to convert to OLB, but has not played there since his sophomore year in HS.

Projection

6-7th rounder or priority UDFA.

If he falls the the 7th without us taking a flyer on Blake whom I am kind of hoping we do Then this might be an interesting prospect especially with emphasis on the coachable part. We I don't think we need a complete DE right now what we need is a guy who can get to the QB opposite Mario.

Dang it, I have said his name in at least 3 threads! I am all for this guy, I had him pegged before the season.

If Kubiak takes a DE that is a "pass rushing specialist" he is full of it...
