My Post-Long Signing Mock

Houston TexanUK

Practice Squad
*When I say "more than likely" I mean in my mind, I am not guaranteeing anything, I just have a wierd way of wording things*

Now we have the top pick all wrapped up, it sets up many of the following picks. This was the only thing separating many situations happening. The happiest person in the world right now is Matt Ryan. I personally dont rate him very high, but now Jake Long is off the board, Dorsey will more than likely end up in St Louis. With the Falcons top player gone off their board, they will probably take there greatest need position, which will stop Ryan from sliding. I now see the top 4 going like this.

Dolphins - Long
Rams - Dorsey
Falcons - Ryan
Raiders - Gholston

At 5, 3 things could happen. 1) They trade the pick to the Saints or Bengals, who want Ellis. 2) They trade Allen to the Vikings/Bucs, and have a need at DE. This will mean they will take Chris Long, as there wont be any top rated value picks at DE at 17 or 21... 3) They stay where they are with neither of the previous trades happening, and they take Albert, sealing Carl Petersons firing next year as there GM. All the signals say they are liking Albert, which will be a mistake. He is a first round guard, but they want him as a Tackle... Mistake. Anyone who rises THIS fast on draft boards must be approached with caution.

Presuming the Chiefs keep both their pick and Jared Allen, the Jets will be in their dream position. They can choose between improving their offense or defense with 2 of the best players in the draft. Chris Long or DMC? I personally see them taking DMC, as they have just paid Faneca alot of money, I see them taking DMC... I personally would take Long, as I honestly think he could play every position in the 3-4 apart from NT... I would take Long and try and get Jamaal Charles/Ray Rice in the 2nd round... But they will take DMC as he will be a marketing dream in NYC...

The Patriots would jump on Long so fast we wont even notice theyve made their pick...

The Ravens would be lost with what to do now that Ryan isnt falling to them... And this is where I become lost. If no more trades happen (See KC) then I dont see them keeping this pic... Maybe Ellis?

What does everyone else think will happen in the top picks now?

Dont know where I read it but word is St Louis will take Chriss Long. I'll try and find it.

Also dont know how accurate this is but says Atlanta has decided to pass on Ryann.

The Falcons have reportedly decided to pass on Boston College QB Matt Ryan and instead concentrate on rebuilding their offensive and defensive lines.

MMQB Peter King has it out there...and he had Jake Long #1

2. St. Louis. DE Chris Long, Virginia. The Rams have Jake Long, Chris Long and Dorsey atop their board, so they'd be thrilled to see Gholston go No. 1. They'd be bummed with my scenario about the Michigan tackle going to Miami. They know they need a tackle, what with Alex Barron, who does not like football, and Orlando Pace, who last was healthy for 16 games during the Coolidge Administration. But now that Long is gone, they have a choice to make. Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett loves Dorsey. Others in the organization prefer Chris Long. It's an interesting dilemma. If it's Dorsey, they could move last year's top pick, Adam Carriker, to defensive end. And if it's Long, Carriker can stay inside and Long and Leonard Little would be the bookend rushers for as long as Little, 33, can get to the quarterback. This is a close one. I won't be at all surprised if it's Dorsey.

3. Atlanta. QB Matt Ryan, Boston College. Did everyone get the hint nine days ago when Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff borrowed owner Arthur Blank's G-4 jet for the day and took coach Mike Smith over to Baton Rouge for a love-in with Dorsey ... and then Dorsey visited the Falcons' facility last week to see everyone else in the organization?

I find it really easy to picture Glenn Dorsey in a Rams uniform. I think that's the way it'll go.

If the Rams take Dorsey, I doubt they have Carriker & Dorsey at DT. Meaning they either move to a 3-4 Defense which is being rumored (Dorsey not a fit) or...

They would be forced to move Adam Carriker back outside to DE.

I agree with Dorsey to the Rams, and with Ryan to the Falcons. I diverge at #4. I think that's where Chris Long goes (although Al will be sorely tempted to get an offensive playmaker in McFadden).

I also think the Chiefs will go O-Lineman, although I don't think that Albert will be a mistake as you suggest. Just because the "Civilian" draft boards didn't have him rated highly right after the season, that doesn't mean the draft boards of the NFL teams didn't have him up there. #5 does seem high, and if the Chiefs have Clady ranked highly, that wouldn't shock me either, but Albert sounds good.

Now, if your the Jets, do you go Gholston, or Run DMC? I agree with your comment on Faneca, and see Mangini strengthening his D by strengthening his running game.

Patriots go Gholston in a heartbeat, and since you stopped at #8, I will too.

What a decision Oakland would have if Gholston, Long, AND McFadden were all available!

If they go Long, Gholston goes to NY, would the Pats take a serious look at McFadden? That would be such a scary offense, not that it isn't already.

I think he means KC....

I dont think Kansas are looking for a veteran QB, I think they are set there with Huard.. They just seem to be banking on Croyle way too much.

I don't think Croyle is terrible but he needs some help for sure on that oline and help outside at WR.

Baltimore is in an interesting place. If Ryan is gone my thought is Cinci might be pretty desperate for a shot at Ellis if he's on the board still.Still think Gaither is that guy at LT. the Jake Long signing has definately started the draft off with a bang.

I perosnaly see things setting up to happen what I said three months ago. Oakland passes on D Mc, Jerry Jones flips the Jets the finger. K.C. now holds the seventeen. They can ford to move back and gather more picks and controll the darft after the first twelve picks. allen move means they are taking a wrecking ball to the club. D Mc to dallas @ the 15 to help sell the 1500 dollar PSLs.
