Johnston would be a dynomite pick. One of my favorite small schoolers. Very fast for a big guy. I would like to see the Texans grab him in the 4th.

Molden is ok. Has the measurements, but on the Very limited tape I have seen, he looks pretty average. People get to wrapped up in his numbers.

Hightower is a RB/FB. Only saw 2 games, but he had decent speed for a guy his size. Good power. Not in my top 5 small school backs, but definately top 10.

Tyrell Johnson is the guy who is moving up the board like a freight train. He'll probably go in the 2nd round thanks to his combination of skills.

He has good speed, ran a 4.45 at the combine.He is physical and aggressive, hard hitter. A reliable tackler, and is decent in coverage, but have trouble in man to man. That's ok though because we're switching to zone. He's another smart player with high football IQ and is a team leader.

He's listed at SS, but would more likely switch to FS for us; obviously because we have like 10 SS already anyways. I'll take him in the third, if he around that long.

Ray Rhodes is known to favor soft zones. We started last year playing a lot of that sort of zone (although we ended the season playing more and more man-type coverage from what I saw). So everyone assumed zone was the type of defense we would play next year.

Then we sign Reeves and the idea is more man coverage.

So... who knows.

Maybe so when he was a head coach or DC, but here he is way down the food chain as Assistant Defensive Backs coach. I doubt he will be pulling the reins away from Smith and Hoke. Tweaks and developing young DB's are what he is here for.

I said that because that was the thought that was going around after we signed Reeves and hired Rhodes as our coach. Rhodes a zone defense while he was DC, and Reeves is more of a zone-coverage defender. Putting two and two together most people figures we're switching to zone.

I shouldn't had made sound like it was official that we were switching to zone, because we don't know that unless we're one of the Texans coaches.
 
POSITIVES: Tough, hard-working corner best in zone coverage. Physical, likes to mix it up and displays suddenness to his game. Plants and quickly breaks on the ball. Willing run defender.

NEGATIVES: Lacks the quick fluid back pedal, slow transitioning back to make a play on the pass and lacks downfield speed. Lacks timing and usually a half step behind.

ANALYSIS: A competitive, tough defender, Reeves had difficulty playing backed off the line of scrimmage at Purdue and is better facing the quarterback in a zone defense. Should get looks in camp next summer as a dime back and special teams player.

He also ran a 4.6 in the 40.

Don't know where you heard that he was better off in a man to man coverage, cause so far I only heard that he was more suited for zone coverage. Also, wasn't the knock on him back in Dallas was that he couldn't stick to his man and was constantly getting burned?

Most of the press coming out of Houston since the signing has stated



Reeves will play in a different system with the Texans. He'll also be used differently - in press coverage rather than off coverage. After scouting him, the Texans believe Reeves is better suited to the style they'll employ.

Reeves, who said he played at 190-192 pounds last season, welcomes the chance to play in a different scheme.

"I like to line up on the receiver and turn and run with him," Reeves said. "We changed our scheme last year when Wade (Phillips) came in. Because we used the zone blitz, we (corners) played off the receivers.

"I also know that playing the run is a necessity. Teams are running on the perimeter a lot, and if you want to play in this league, you have to make tackles."

Dont know if you are refering to the first round or not. McClain has stated many times that we would like to get a RB in this draft in the later rounds. He has stuck by his guns that we are going LT then CB with our first 2 picks or vise versa.

I did not specify. I dont think the Texans go RB in the 1st.

I find it very hard to believe that we would draft a RB in the 3rd round that has a late 4th to 5th round grade.



On the other hand should we trade down to late first or second round Gosder sounds like a Gibbs kind of guy.

6. Gosder Cherilus, OT Boston College
One of the high risers after a good off-season, he's a 6-7, 315-pound athlete who destroys defenders when he gets the chance. He'll bust his tail to get better and will be coachable. The concern will be how well he handles a No. 1 pass rusher if he plays on the left side. More than fine if he spends his career on the right, there are concerns that the Virginia Tech games might have shown the real player he is.

Any thoughts on Gosder Cherilus from Boston College?

He's a little stiff, but he's physical and played better as a RT than LT at Boston College. Supposedly the Texans have snooped around about him but it surprises me because I'm not sure he can be an effective pass protector at LT and Winston is more of a RT.

Well I called Cory Boyd about two months ago. I see no logic in spending a pick of any kind on something we already got...Walker is close enough to Hart it would be redundant. They don't have enough margin with five to waist any picks. You must be his agent or family.

LAS CRUCES —Former New Mexico State offensive lineman Mike Martinez said Friday he is hopeful of getting drafted or signing with an team after this weekend's National Football League Draft.

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound Martinez was a four-year starter for NMSU and played at center and tackle.
