Here is my Totally Ridiculous Texans mock...Or is it? You be the judge.
1. Phillip Merling-DE Clemson
People think our biggest needs our OT, RB, or CB. I think our two biggest needs are high motor DE opposite Mario and a big clogging DT. I have been saying for years that you need to harass the opposing QB and get in his grill. Merling reminds me of a Justin Tuck(a high motor guy that gives his all on every play. Mario will be thrilled to have Merling.
2. Matt Schaub:QB
3. Red Bryant-DT Texas A&M
Yeah, I know many of you don't like this pick, but you have to relaize how much of a hole we have at the other DT position. Amobe will be a hoss, but we need a big mountain of a man next to him to be our run stopper. If I could I would go get Mönkhbatyn Davaajargal, a 6'4 350 lb Yokozuna. Since I can't, I'll take Red, stick him next to Mario and Amobi and watch him continuously tie up 2 defenders.
4. Mike Hart: RB Michigan
Good blocker: check. Holds onto the football and doesn't fumble:check. Takes the ball and runs straight forward: check. Able to catch the ball out of the backfield: check. He would be an excellent ZBS RB and can share the load with a bigger back like Chris Brown
5. DaJuan Tribble: CB
Some of yall might be pissed off with me for waiting so long to take a CB, but the fact is, this is a guy who is a natural Zone CB. He is perfect for that role. He could likely come and compete for a nickel spot right away.
6. Chris Myers: C
7. Jonathan Zenon:CB LSU
Here is another Zone CB that could be a good pick.
I know that I didn't take any O line in this draft. I am not as impressed with Albert(as many on this board are) due to his poor lateral movement. He has good blocking skills but we need good lateral movement, not decent, not average, good.
I think that we can put together an O-line with what we have. I expect Spencer to come back as a Guard and if neccesary we could always shift Pitts back to LT. Remember 03 under Capers where we actually played halfway decent and won 7 games? Know who the LT was? It was Pitts. I don't know why we moved him, but we should have left him at LT. So with Pitts at LT, Myers at C, and Winston at the RT we have 3 positions filled for sure. I would put Briesel, Studdard, and Spencer into competition and the best two start at the Guard positions and the third backs up.
