Jerome Mathis a Redskin

No Longer Arlington: Escaped From Jerry's World
Staff member
Redskins signed WR/KR Jerome Mathis, formerly of the Texans.
Impact: Mathis is definitely not the big receiver Washington needs, but worth a try for the minimum, which is likely what he got. The 24-year-old is one of the game's most explosive return men when healthy. Mathis is unlikely to help on offense, but could make a big impact if he stays off the shelf and out of trouble.

too bad he's always hurt and can't play receiver... for the redskins, i mean.

i was pumped about mathis after his rookie year... but i'm fine with davis.

Good for him. I hope that he can get his crap together, stay healthy, and buy some dog leashes while he is up there. Oh, and I hope he stops choking women, too.

Seriously, there's no arguing that he's a talented young guy on KR's. I just hope that (for the sake of his life after football) that he can get his head out of his butt.

So how is everyone going to feel if he stays healthy and returns to 2005 form on KR? There's no doubt he has to go, but I'm glad he ended up in the NFC. As excited as we all are about Davis, Mathis is a better KR (not PR). I would have been rather annoyed if he would have been picked up by a divisional team (or the Browns, whom we play every year).

Would we collect any compensatory picks for this, or is his playing time too short for this?

The choking of the girlfriend is what put me over the top. Everything else could be fixed.

Good Riddance

Hardly a change in scenery in some regards. He grew up just outside of Richmond and went to college at Hampton which are both just down the road from DC.

If g/f was from 'back home' (as I recall, she moved 'out of state' after dropping charges) then the surroundings could be all too familiar.

Mathis is a confirmed repeat knucklehead and there's really no reason to believe that won't continue. Whether he can make the roster of another NFL team and stay healthy is a question. I wonder if he will bring his pitt bulls to VA, or just accidentally let them run away when the moving van backs up to his house in Brazoria Co?

What were the Texans supposed to do keep taking a flyer on a guy who can not seem to pull his head out his ass or stay healthy. It happens every now and agian that a player will have another good year and be comeback player of the year, but oh well. Crap in one hand, hope in the other and you still have nothing you can take to the market. Davis and Jacoby will do fine this coming season as long as Jacoby can learn from his one mistake everything will be fine. Mathis has yet to show he can learn from his.

Like you said he had to go, so why feeling anything at all, other than if he returns to form he can stick it to the cowgirls.

doesn't bother me since he is a cancer in the locker room and we have guys who have proven they can return the ball. If you can't multitask enough to be a credible back up at another position a guy who only returns the ball takes up a valuable roster spot....so, I'm glad we kept Andre Davis and launched him even if he takes a few to the house down the road.
