I would be shocked if we don't go CB, maybe even OL if the right guy falls to #18.
I'd be just fine with either of those IF Stewart's gone. But to pass on a potentially elite talent like that to "fill a need" would be horrible. And it's not like RB ISN'T a position of need.
If Stewart is as good as I personally think he'll be, with a healthy Schaub, Johnson, and Charles Spencer, you can gun for shootouts every week until Dunta returns. Hell, we only had one "real" CB until Fred Bennett became a starter anyway, and we did just fine.
Fix the offensive side of the ball first, then start filling the holes on the defense. Worked for the Colts, didn't it?

Sorry but could not disagree with you more. Stewart is a good running back I will not fight you on that. But IMHO Green,Brown,Taylor, and Walker can take care of pounding the rock this year.
Last year I was dead set on NOT taking a Olinemen because of the talent that was going to come out this year. Can someone tell me the last time it looked like 6,7, maybe 8 Olinemen might be take in the FIRST round? The talent pool this year is there WE need to protect Matt's blindside NOW. If we keep getting our QB's pounded into the ground we're looking at Mittens(Carr) part two.
We have a chance with this draft to fix the Oline for the next 10 years. Think about it Gibbs is not going to be with the staff for more than a few years he is 72 and already retired once, point is draft a OLT now with the young talent we have gotten over the passed two drafts the kids can become a unit before Gibbs hangs it up for good.
Last but not least RB are deep in this years draft will still be some good ones left in the third and fourth rounds. Granted not the cabiler of Stewart but still servicable. Always keep in mind the next Greatest Running Back to play the game is in NEXT YEARS draft.

his turf toe has been surgically addressed & if anything will make him 100% for which ever team is lucky enough to get him. will not hurt him or limit his NFL career whatsoever, NFL teams know this & if he is a better fit than Mendenhall in their system & need a RB they will not hesitate to draft him.
regarding the Texans its pretty much a mute point, before or after this injury, yet stranger things have happen'ed
does anyone have any insight on jonathan stewarts recent surgery? also, do you think this will have any effect on a decsion with us?
Simply stated, turf toe is nothing more than a hyperextension injury of the great toe, or first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ). However, the first MTPJ is an extremely complex joint.
The most common mechanism of injury occurs when an athlete's great toe is forcibly jammed into extension or up. A prime example of this would be a football player who has maximally dorsiflexed his toe and is force to take on the weight of an oncoming opponent. In addition, a straight compressive force on the first MTPJ can also cause turf toe.
Kiper has Felix Jones over Stewart for some reason.
Kipers time has past he no longer holds the courts attention, the draft has become big buisness & its crowded at the top
Regarding JS. nobody has taken a bigger hit who has always done the correct thing. Oregon gets little national coverage/recognition. he has always been an elite RB yet people doubt him. he played with turf toe in the Sun Bowl amassing 253 yds. & performed @ the combine running 4.44/4.48 plus positionial drills then gets surgery to correct the injury & gets hammer'ed. you have got to be kidding me
To my defense, I've bashed Stewart on a consistent basis and it has nothing to do with his turf toe.
Two strong yet fast backs, one seasoned and the other young and raring to go makes me smile. And if Taylor can solidify the 3rd back spot, we be doing ok.If Jenkins and Williams are off the board, I can only see the Texans taking Jonathan Stewart, unless they make a move down (or up I suppose). His value is just too high compared to anyone left on the board and RB isn't exactly a luxury position on this team. I feel we would almost be obligated to take him in this scenario.

Per Icak; financial ramification is $3.8 million saving to cut Green after June 1st. Two players can be identified as June 1st cuts and cut prior to June. No reason to cut now as you do not know what will happen to your backs now to June.So what are the ramafction if you cut ahmen ? and I agree with you and Beerlover he is top end RB....what I do not agree with is that turf toe is nothing....even operated on truf toe is dangerous. What I think....is they already have their scenrio laid out to what they are going to do. Mcclain has been prety infatic this off season....someone is feeding it to him...they'll go CB/OLT or OLT/ CB.
They have to give themselves the best chance to hit both. Be a weird board line up, or trade down offer if they don't/can't do this.

If Stewart and Williams at #18, I'd select LT then use my 2nd round (Sage) on either Jamaal Charles if still on board or Fort who is moving up as RB. I see several good CBs in 3rd and 4th.In the ideal situation, It would be OLT/CB or CB/OLT, but given the scenerio of Stewart being clearly a tier above all the other options at #18, I just don't think that Smith/Kubiak would just let him go. I would imagine they would do whatever they could to trade down and pick up another pick so they can pick a CB/OLT that is worth the pick number they are choosing, but if not, Stewart would be the guy.
On the video on the texans website titled "Kubiak Discusses Offseason", Kubes says, quote, "We gotta make sure that pick will play for this team for a long long time. I mean, you don't pick a guy that just plays the position of need, you pick a player that you know will be successful in this league for a long, long time." Based on those comments, I would see us either picking JS, or trading to someone that wants him. (again all the top CB and OLT are gone in this scenario)
He runs as if the devil is chasing him too.http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/03/dallas-cowboys-nfl-draft-series-oregon-r.html
"He's a great person, an all-around kid, a strong Christian kid, a good student. He's the best kid I've ever had, period".
I don't know seems like a great fit for Bob McNair & Texans

The Houston Chronicle notes that the Texans need to find a running back in the draft, but one "who's not coming off an injury."
The Chronicle seems to strongly suggest that the Texans will pass on Oregon RB Jonathan Stewart at No. 18 if they find a defensive end, left tackle, or corner worth that choice. They currently don't have a second-round pick.

either they've been told to mis-inform the public, or just plain stupid, your choice.
I'm proud this board saw through the local media crap being released & voted Jonathan Stewart as the #18th pick even over the highly coveted (getting to be overrated) Branden Albert. well done
this is a real scouts viewpoint of Stewart, Nolan Nawrocki

Well, I had hoped to send a blog after our annual PFW St. Elmo's bash, but in the back of my mind, I knew that was going to be an ambitious undertaking. More on Elmo's later; the main topic in this post is the RBs that were on display yesterday. By far the most impressive is Oregon's Jonathan Stewart, who weighed in at 5-10, 235 and has his sights set on cranking out a forty time in the low 4.4s on Sunday. This kid is one impressive physical specimen. You could just see that he's chiseled, but what struck me was his massive hands, which were wrapped around the podium platform. Stewart has shot past the likes of Darren McFadden and Rashard Mendenhall and appears destined to be the top RB selected. He plans on running and lifting on Sunday, and it will be interesting to see how he does. As for Mendenhall, I have to give him credit for doing a good job handling all the questions about his character issues. But his media presence isn't great.
mind you this was before he announced his injury & decision to get the surgery done before the draft so he could be ready for whatever team drafted him @ training camp. that act displays real character
depends who is setting at #18 and if he is the Best Player on our board I think we will take him in a heartbeat especially if texans are still looking at signing Andre Dyson. He will prolly drop a little, but I don't think that we are going to go RB in the 1st round.
I would be shocked if we don't go CB, maybe even OL if the right guy falls to #18.
Look for this topic to be moved to the Draft forum.
