Classless McCombs

Ever imagine what would happen if a used car salesman ran an NFL team? This was totally classless. If you were considering firing the head coach you don't go to the media and club him like a baby seal and humiliate him by telling the world that you were going to fire him on a hunch that you could spark some stats out of Moss.
McCombs said he considered firing Tice
Associated Press

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings owner Red McCombs said Thursday that he nearly fired coach Mike Tice last season in an effort to get more out of star receiver Randy Moss.

Randy Moss
Maybe Al Davis and Norv Turner can give Randy Moss the spark he was missing in Minnesota.

In his first public comments since trading Moss to the Raiders, McCombs also acknowledged that he knows the Vikings didn't get enough from Oakland in return. The deal was made last week and officially completed on Wednesday.

McCombs said he was so desperate to "get a spark out of Randy" that he considered firing Tice just before Moss returned from a hamstring injury. At the time, the Vikings had lost three of four games after starting the season 5-1.

"I gave serious thought to replacing Mike when Randy was coming off injury," McCombs said, speaking by teleconference from Texas. "I was trying to think, 'How can I make this thing work where we get that spark?'"

One of the main problems in the NFL is that players don't respect the coaches anymore, IMO. Players think they run the show because they make more money than the coaches and the coaches are always being hired and fired. Things like this only make it worse. Still, I don't know what's worse, the fact that he almost fired TIce for Moss, or that he came out and said so publicly. He should have just kept that secret to himself. Now Tice might be looking over his shoulder, and his players may lose some confidence in him.

When an owner is such a moron, the NFL should pull his franchise due to incompetency. I know they can't, but I like the thought.

Major League sports don't care what type of people their owners are, just that they have plenty of money.

Examples Starling-NBA Clippers- continues to let that team stay at the bottom with no attempts to get better or keep top players

Synder-Washington Redskins- keeps throwing money to top name players and no results

Jones- Dallas Cowboys- give me your thugs, druggies, and criminal; they are my type of athletes.

I really like Tice, and I think it was a classless move as you say. Screw Randy Moss. I liked what Tice said in response to the comments made by McCombs. He said, "well, I've thought about quitting a few times."

not to stick up for the clips, but they did re-up brand and maggette in the last couple of off-seasons. i would certainly regard them as "top" talent.

I still remember when the Vikes were 6-0 last year, and McCombs came in the locker room and told them they stunk.

The simple truth is if it weren't for the entrepreneural skills and business acumen of people like Red McCombs, the Randy Moss types in the NFL would
be working as janitors in West Virginia public facilities cleaning up toilets and
the Mike Tices wouldn't be far behind them.

Red McCombs didn't make the NFL , if anything he makes it worse by screwing over the Vikings fan base all the time.

Look at this, empathy for Viking fans from a Lions Fan.

I despise everything Red McCombs stands for.
Whoever made the Clippers example, that's what Red is doing with the Vikes.

The African American in question is from the town I live in now, Chandler, AZ.

Mike Tice certainly isn't one of the smartest guys out there, and I don't really like the guy because I think he's a dummy, but he relates well with the players and is a good motivator. That is totally bush league by McCombs.

I can't talk too much ****, he gave a lot of money to my alma mater once (Texas Lutheran)....but what school does he NOT give money too?
