Here we go again...

Hello fellas. I haven't had anything negative to comment on in a while. I'm sure I was missed.

So here we go again.... overpaying for average players. Average players and bad coaches equals another top 15 draft pick next year. Who does Mel Kiper have on the board for 2006? Why do I have visions of Vince Young leading the Texans to the playoffs....

Because you are delusional.

So because we didnt sign mega superstar, you are pissed at the organization? Just be glad you arent a part of the Titans this year. They have the makings of a long year.

I don't see the overpaying part. Greenwood's 26 and already a 4 yr starter for a good NFL defense. I'll agree we're probably paying at least in part for potential. However, this is really a deal as much for next year as this. Sharper and Wong are FA next year. We'd then be forced to overpay to bring two ILBs in or be faced with Foreman and Polk starting at ILB. Now we have a little breathing room to develop a draft pick as Sharper's replacement, without worrying about the Foreman/Wong spot.

Overpaying, hmmm...how about:

Jordan, who spent four seasons as Curtis Martin's occasionally disgruntled understudy, agreed in principle to a five-year, $27.5 million contract to be the Raiders' featured back, a source said. It has $15 million in guaranteed money, including a $7 million signing bonus.
for a RB who has 262 carries in 4 seasons (about 64 a season average--never over 100 in a season)? vs. a guy that has been a 4 year starter for a top tier defense. Just doesn't seem all that unreasonable.

Disclaimer--not saying Jordan was overpayed--used purely for illustrative purposes.

Over 8 million a year in an undersized doorstop and an average LB from a terrible team is not overpaying? Isn't that like 10% of the cap?
8 million a year? Who's doing your math for you? His cap hit in year 5 (and he'll be restructured before then) will be 6.4 million according to the numbers from ESPN that I saw. His cap hit this year will be right about 2 million.

And the Dolphins were in the top quarter of the NFL on defense. That their offense was abysmal just makes the defense that much more impressive.

Did you see the cap figures for each year on Greenwoods contract? he wont be making 4 mil until his 4th year. this year he is 500k+.. next year he is in the 2mil area.. year after that is 3mil.. then 4 mil. then 5 mil. that is roughly how it looks.

in other words.. he is not much cap hit at all for the first two seasons. 3rd season he is average.. and by the 4th season we should definatly know what we have in him, and if we will be keeping him.. and can either restructure to free up more space, or cut him.

this was a good signing and will not hurt us in the long run.

The contract is worth $22.5 million and includes a $7 million signing bonus. Greenwood will earn salaries of $540,000 (for 2005), $2.56 million (2006), $3.4 million (2007), $4 million (2008) and $5 million (2009). Those salaries include $100,000 workout bonuses for some seasons.

that is what porky posted in the other greenwood thread. i was going by that, but I guess it doesnt include the cap hit from his signing bonus.

either way.. if we overpaid him.. it was by a small amount.

Because the reason Miami was a bad team was because of the Defense right?

8th in total yards allowed per game. Yeah, thats one crappy D.

They still wont be as bad as a handful of teams. They've still got some damn fine talent on both sides of the ball coming back, including a back who ran for 97 YPG when healthy, a "backup" QB who threw for 250 YPG and a 1200 yard WR and thats just on offense...
