Who's the KR in 2005?

JJ won't be back. The experiment failed, he didn't even threaten to break one last year, that spot will be filled by someone who can also play offense (or defense).

You guys wouldn't wanna sign Allen Rossum...only problem is I could see the Chad Morton thing happening...pay him money to return kicks, only to do nothing.

This post quoted from 50 people last year wanting someone to break one. I guess 22 other teams are looking for new kick returners because theirs didn't take one to the house. Is JJ in jeopardy?--every year. He will be gone when someone steps up as a real contributor in their nominal roster spot plus can return somewhere near as well as JJ can. May happen this year, may not based on last year's experience.

This and the "fire Capers" threads are like clockwork, eh?

It'll get decided in camp. At the last minute. Again.

If JJ isnt returning kicks next year, itll be somebody who isnt on the roster yet. If nobody better is signed than yes he will be returning kicks and i will be very happy about that. Give me consistent field position with no turnovers any day.

So, I guess everyone forgot about Sloan Thomas? The kid has some sick wheels!

I think I'd take Starling's wheels over Sloans, but I tend to agree that if JJ isn't back there returning kicks next year it will because of someone new to the roster.

I like Starling, he works well in the Madden world. There is someone else but I just can't remember who. I saw him play one time and my jaw dropped, I'll try to remember who it was.

It's a going to be a difficult choice when the time comes, but I still like Sloan. I've seen guys close on him in the open field and all they grab is air.

Sloan is very talented, and if JJ does end up losing his KR duties I can definately see him and Starling both on the roster. It would be great to see them both in action on the field at the same time.

I agree that we need to have someone that can contribute on offense or defesne as well as the kick return duty. Otherwise he is an average returner taking up a roster spot.

Not forgetting him at all. Watched all through training camp last year as the Texans virtually sat JJ and let Duff, Sloan and some others try to unseat JJ. Didn't happen.

Good point. But I still see the Texans taking a hard look at Sloan and Sterling. They need someone who can contribute more that just on KR's. As we saw last year from J.J. 0 catches and a not-so-great 8.6 yds per punt return.

I think it will be a repeat of last year too. They'll look for someone who can contribute on offense or defense, plus kick returns, and see what happens. Has got to be awful tough on JJ to sit there for the first 3 preseason games though.

In my opinion, taking it to the house is cancelled by a fumble. So if you take it to the house once, and fumble once, that's like never taking it to the house at all. Because when you fumble, they usually get to take it in.

So I'd go for sure hands and consistent field position.

Seemed like this year, JJ was more following the pack, rather than trying to break it on his own. To me, that spells coaching direction. Maybe that's what they want, but it's not as fun to watch.

Hopefully its Adam Jones.

As much as i'd love to see that, Pac-Man being available at #13 is very highly unlikely... ludicrous even

BTW, CB Fabian Washington ran a 4.25 at the combine. Anyone know if he can return kicks? If so, he may be able to help out the secondary and KR/PR and be available in round 2 or possibly 3... that boy is fast.

would rather have Jones, but that isnt very realistic.

hey i'm suprised J.J had that many yards, I dont think or coaches show any of our guys how to ever block properly if at all. I mean just ask David Carr. I'd take J.J over them other guys any day, but if we can find a guy who can contribute in more than one way and still be a consistent KR than i'm all for it !

This is an area that I think we need to move carefully on. If someone can be as productive and protective of the ball as JJ is and have more speed, then sure lets use that guy, if not all of that, then you have to stick with the solid play of JJ IMO.
