Texans Trade Pick?

now that I have your attention here is the question, if you where Casserly would you trade the 13th selection for additional picks?

for example say that Troy Williamson the talented speedster WR out of South Carolina was there at #13 and the Eagles wanted him real bad, would you trade down for the 31st & 35th selections of the Eagles? and if so who would you target?

or for those who believe in BPA, just take Williamson?

I would trade down, but then so would everyone else.

The thing about trading down, is that you have to find some sucker that would want to trade up. And in this year's draft, being that there is not that high of talent in the first 15 picks . . . everyone wants to trade down.

And if everyone wants to trade down, then nobody will.

Well, I like Williamson as a pick, but only if he brings another pick in with him. I'd take #31 and #35 if DJ, the two CBs and the two WRs were gone. If the trade wasn't offered, I'd pull Marcus Spears or Justin Miller at #13 over Williamson.

I agree with Marcus on this one. This is gonna be a tough year to trade back. Most everything I have read indicates that there is not much separating the 13th best prospect from the 30th. I've seen this mentioned by many personel types and NFL observers across the net.

That makes it a buyers market for trading up...
I'm almost convinced that we could trade up with S.F. for a pretty cheap price and then take DJ.

I know all of the arguments against it, and most likely, the arguments are correct. I just think that it would be cheaper to move into that spot than most people would think and if it came to pass, DJ would be the pick.

OK, having said that, I expect a flurry of justifications for NOT doing it, from the fact that we need additional picks, to the fact that we don't want to pay DJ #1 overall money.
I agree with all of the arguments against such a seemingly drastic move, but I don't agree as strongly as most of you probably do...

I'm undecided which is why I posed the question. The draft is looking stronger each day as the draft gets closer, but as far as the BPA at the skilled positions goes the cut-off to me seems around the 13th pick, which is to the Texans advantage.

The skilled positions being the QB (2) RB (3) WR (3) CB (2) throw in the elite prospects at LB (Derrick Johnson) OT (Alex Barron) S (Thomas Davis) DL (Marcus Spears). After those there is a gradual decrease in quality with CB still deeper than most. So a team who covets a skilled BPA like Williamson should certainly consider trading up.

The Draft Pick Value Chart Guidelines suggest that it would be a fair trade if the Texans gave up the 13th pick (1150) for the Eagles 31st (600) and 35th (550) picks. The Texans would give up one of the elite players but in exchange could draft a David Baas (31st) & Anttaj Hawthorne (assuming of course both are still available) thus addressing both lines & still have another 2nd round pick (47th).

As stated I'm still undecided. There will be surprises come draft day guaranteed. Looking at last year the Jaguars selected Reggie Williams with the 9th overall pick, how many of you think they would trade straight across for Troy Williamson? I think IF he falls into our laps we need to keep all options open

None of these guys have played a down since the end of the College season....they didn't get any better since then. It's just that we keep reading about these guys over and over and over and as fans we tend to fall into some hypnotic type trance assuming all these guys games can and will translate to the next level. The draft isn't any stronger than it was months ago. It's just that we have information overload.

Very astute point, because last year was certainly a buyers market for trading
down given the strength in the top of the Draft. The price to move up should be less expensive in terms of picks in kind you'd need to exchange for the higher pick, but the argument cuts both ways - there's less talent to move up for and it still may be as expensive (monetarily - salary, up front bonus, cap) as in recent years, hence there may be a lot of lengthy hold out by high draft picks.

appreciate the disclaimer, I know I'm one for information overload & there's good reason for caution & not raising everyone's expectations. still you have to agree the Texans are sitting pretty @ 13 and envied by some both below & above, thats all I'll have say.
