Its a poll, for all the rumored available RBs out there
Well I have been pushing for Stewart but not too sure how his injured toe will come into play. Mendenhall if there? I think Jamaal Charles would be great in the ZBS but few agree. I'll say Forte on second day. None of the FA candidates have excited me.

The more I think about it, the more I like Chris Brown. He is still young and has great talent. He obviously has had issues with injuries, but I don't think he was injured last season. The Tacks just decided to give White the job. Injury situations can come and go, unless the back is on the wrong side of 30, in which case they usually never go. Given the proper contract, I think Brown is our best chance to end up with a gamebreaker with low risk. Alexander's accomplishments are well known, and I think people tend to not let go soon enough. He's finished. Sure, he might have a game or two, but it would just be Ahman Green all over again, IMO.

I'm the lone person in Ahmans corner...so far at least.

I'm an optimist, but I think he'll still give us plenty to cheer about this season.

I'm with ya. I hope Brown/Green will be a good tandem if we do in fact end up signing Brown.

Jones seems to have the least injury problems.....averaged 1000 yds a season. Close to 4 yards a carry. Great hands, young.....i say lets do it.

Now if we get Brown AND him? I think rest of our division should get some extra gym time.

this isn't going to well considering I just heard the Texans have signed Chris Brown & nobody (yet) has selected your newest Houston Texan :logo:

I would prefer Rashard Mendenhall, Ray Rice or Johnathon Stewart as my first choice of runners over any of those verterans who could cost more than a rookie. I think we need to continue to build through the draft like most great teams have done unless we take a flyer on a young talent like Kevin Jones and give him a change of scenery from that horrible franchise in detroit. I think if we do take a chance on Kevin Jones I think that we should still draft a running back in the 3rd round maybe a guy like steve slaton to go with him and make a nice 1-2 punch.

This injury thing is getting overblown. Brown has missed one game due to injury in the last three years.

Man, how do you average? Jones was a 1000 yd back his rookie year and hasn't gone over 690 yds since. Oh, and averaging close to 4 yards sucks.

Brown has signed, so everyone needs to give up on Alexander, Jones and Dayne.

Anyone but what we have.

Allen/Wells/Mack/Davis/Danye/Green/Lundi/Taylor/Walker

How many times can we fail? Shoot, one outta 9 looked decent for a season and a half? Other than that it has been mediocre

I voted for the rookie as I'm not convinced about anyone on the roster right now, nor about this Chris Brown fellow they signed today.

I voted Chris Brown.

I would love to have Mendenhall on the team but that is not going to happen. Stewart's lack of a second gear, and his two issue coupled with our need at other positions probably means no 1st or 2nd round RB...so I think the best option might be Brown.

This guy can't play a full season are you kidding I say fill the need at running back with either Mendenhall or Stewart. I think stewart has plenty of speed for 235 running back who ran a 4.47 at the combine so kill that noise and name one running back on our roster who 4.47 speed at that size or period?

I havn't voted for anyone yet, I will talk myself into someone by the end of my post.

I would love to see Ahman Green as our starter because that would probably mean he was healthy and able to play, however with the signing of Chris Brown (I think), if we have Green AND Brown then that would leave very few other spots for Chris Taylor, Darius Walker, and the rookie we WILL draft somewhere (not 1st round unless it's Mendenhall- then he'd be the starter but he'll be selected before us anyways). I cannot see us having 5 RB's. (This is assuming we don't sign Brown and then release him before the season).

With Brown and Green currently on the roster, I don't really like the idea of having Taylor, Walker, or the new Rook as our starting runningback. I really would like to see these 3 players all on the team. I hope the Rook becomes our Starter down the road (year 2+) but not this year. If Taylor is fully healed, he'd be awesome on the team as a starter or great backup. and I like what Walker showed us towards the end of the season, In my mind he deserves a back up role on the team.

So by process of elimination I will choose... ..thinking.... Chris Brown to be our starter for next year. This kind of troubles me because I really like Ahman Green but i simply can't see us keeping both players and Green would probably be the better player to cut financially for the next few years.

If Brown gets cut in camp then I choose Green hoping/assuming he's healthy but now my choice is Brown. I will go vote now. :)

Why is everyone so down on Dayne? At least he stayed healthy and produced while everyone else was falling down with injuries.

Because he is slow and is only productive when the line gives him three yards to get up to speed. If they give him that, he is a load to bring down but if he doesn't get it he goes down at first contact. His late season success is largely a product of the OL getting their run blocking together. He also can't run to the outside. Open the same holes for a RB with some burst and you will see a much more dynamic rushing attack--ex. look at how the purely mediocre Walker looked hitting the same holes.

i dont understand all the mendenhall hype, we need to spend our 1st rd pick on a defensive starter, the offense was fine minus the turnovers, we are a pass happy offense, we pass first, we need to stop teams from scoring after our "O" turns the ball over. mendenhall had one good game against usc, that's it. he doesn't have the body of work that peterson did or mcfadden. he also played with a mobile qb in a spread offense. that makes it easy, especially in the big ten. dude didnt run wild in the SEC nor did he carry his team to victories while 8 men were in the box. that rose bowl game was an absolute mismatch and usc waited for the game to end. it's kinda like when chris taylor had a nice game against cleveland in a meaningless season finale.

Dayne is like your old car ... it's not real efficeint but it still runs .

I think you cut him and he'll be there if you need him .

I'd personally prefer us to get our Offensive line fixed and working great BEFORE spending high $$ or high draft picks on a runningback. I would love to spend high draft picks (even though guru Gibbs is here) on the OL and get it being one of the best in the league, and THEN we would be able to have a backfield full of Taylors, Walkers, and 2nd day rookies- all cheap cheap cheap.

Anybody know the $ figures on the Brown deal?

dayne will find a job for a small contract, he'll never live up to the heisman but is a more than capable back, he is what he his, you gotta appreciate what he did during his time in houston

Some people think Mendenhall will transition into the NFL better than McFadden will. I see Mendenhall and am a lot more excited at an overall Runningback. Sure McFadden did EXTREMELY well in college and in a super tough conference but I'm not in the least bit excited about spending a top 5 pick on him at all. There would be absolutely no way I'd do it unless I had a team that was fully built on both offense and defense and I needed a superb complimentary back like a Reggie Bushish type player and I had a healthy starting running back (pounder/grinder- like a Maurice Jones-Drew).

But again I'm one of the people who see McFadden as a closer comparison to a larger Reggie Bush than I do to an Adrian Peterson. I'm a person that values an Adrian Peterson type of back more than a Reggie Bush type. But at the end of the day McFadden should find his place in the NFL and be successful- at least I hope so, because he's just too talented.

i just dont see it with mendenhall, his presence doesn't make us a better team, if green and brown are healthy then he doesn't see the field, i guess he can thrive in the right system like bush (excuse), peterson played in a pro style "o" and even when he was all OU had he still thrived, do people really think that mendenhall will have a year in houston like peterson had in minnesota? if he does then i'll admit to being wrong but i don't see anything special about him

That's an interesting thought given that Kubiak is somewhat hesitant about starting rookie RBs in his offense after having been let down by Wali Lundy. Remember how long it took Taylor and Walker to get significant P.T.?

I wonder if Smithiak are (is?) betting that neither Mendenhall nor Stewart nor McFadden will still be around by the #18 pick and are protecting themselves.

I voted for Ahman Green because if he's healthy I imagine he starts. If he doesn't take that helmet to the knee last year, I don't even think we have this conversation.

I think a more interesting poll would be who we thought would be the starting RB for the last game of the season.

Dont even get me started on Chris Taylor. Could he be great? Maybe. But to annoint him the starter after 1 game against cleveland a year ago is almost silly

Listening to John McClain on 610AM this morning, it appears the Texans aren't interested in bringing Darius Walker back. McClain said that Walker isn't considered a good fit for Gibbs rushing attack.

I don't know if this is true, or not. I'm not sure whether the Texans offered Walker a contract (he would be a exclusive free agent if they did). Just seems odd that Walker is already out of the mix while the Texans carry 3 injury prone RBs, and haven't seen what's available in the draft.

I wasn't expecting him to make the roster anyways. If we end up drafting a RB and Taylor remains healthy, Green might be on the way out too.

I'm not surprised to hear this.
But the main point is I never heard anybody talk about the talent & upside
of Walker in the same way they did another UNFA, Chris Taylor.
In other words, Kubiak & Co. probably feel that Walker is just another example
of "backs are a dime a dozen", and Kubiak probably thinks there is still gobs of them out there for the taking in this years rookie crop and knows he will give atleast one of them a shot to make the team. And especially now with the signng of Brown, Walker is just farther down the DC and an even longer shot to contribute.

Agree. Am I interested in seeing what he can do and his upside? Yes. I do think the OTAs will play a huge part in Green being cut or not.

My thoughts on Sage are documented.

Why not ? On the basis of a single game against some yahoo school by the name of Fresno State in the central CA valley, Reggie Bush not only won the Heisman trophy but was annointed the next Gale Sayers & Barry Sanders all rolled into one in the NFL when he arrived in the league.

That's probably true. But, one difference between Walker and the other Texan backs is Darius' injury history. Or lack thereof. With all the ?'s concerning Green, Taylor, and Brown, Walker's best attribute may be answering the bell. There's something to be said for that, I would think.

Not surprised. The guys problem was that he wasn't even that quick at ND and wasn't a burst guy here. As I said the other day they can split Green and Brown to keep them healthy and still have Taylor and a rookie.

I agree with someone above on the Taylor hype. It gets to be nonsense after awhile. You'd think the coaches that see them daily would have more of the big picture.

Kubiak's the one that gave Taylor so much praise. He not only hyped him up a bit last year, he's already done so this year. Then the Houston media blows it up. Heck, he's even posted on NFL.com as a fantasy sleeper.

I like Taylor and hope he can stay healthy in order to prove himself worthy of the hype.
