The Titans in recent weeks have talked to a number of teams about Jones, and so far the Cowboys have shown the most interest, sources familiar with the situation said. The Miami Dolphins and a few others also appear interested.

Detroit, Oakland, Kansas City, Houston, New Orleans and New England are among those to have expressed at least some level of interest.

At this point, however, the teams are reluctant to make a trade because of the uncertainty that surrounds Jones' future in the NFL. Agreeing on compensation is another hurdle. Teams don't appear willing to give a high draft pick for Jones, and the Titans are inclined to wait to see whether they can get a draft pick that meets their satisfaction.

Jones was suspended in April 2007 after a string of off-the-field incidents. Last month, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had no plans to reinstate Jones anytime soon.

Goodell indicated he planned to review the case again closer to the opening of training camps in July. Manny Arora, Jones' attorney and agent, had said he planned to ask Goodell to re-examine the matter leading up to the April 26-27 NFL Draft. There's at least a possibility Goodell would allow a trade to take place if the Titans are able to work out a deal with another team.

So what would be fair compensation for Jones?

Barely a week ago, receiver Troy Williamson, the seventh pick in the 2005 draft, was traded from Minnesota to Jacksonville for a sixth-round pick in April's draft. Jones was selected just one spot ahead of Williamson in the same draft.

The Titans would argue Jones has more upside on the field. Other teams, of course, certainly are pointing to his troubles off it.

looks to me as if The Tennesseean just listed teams who could use help at DB. I seriously doubt Mr. McNair would spend a wooden nickel on a scumbag like PacMan...even if the potential was there.

I agree that some team will take a shot on this guy, but IMO, it won't be the Texans. For what its worth, I wouldn't give this guy a spot on my team either.

As Emmitt Smith said, "this tiger ain't changed his spots".
 
Smith & Kubiak can't sell Jones to Bob McNair. As Koolaid Time so subtlety suggested, there's no chance Pacman becomes a Texan.

I don't think the Titans can get a '08 pick for Jones. Who is going to spend a pick this season on a player who may not even see the field? Tennessee will have to wait until Goodell reinstates Jones before making a deal.
 
This guy is going to Dallas they have a history of dealing with young troubled athletes such as Micheal Irvin, Nate newton, Leon Lett, Erik Williams etc. Adam Jones is 25 years of age is super talented but is super stupid as well. I think that he deserves a 2nd chance and we have all done crazy stuff when we were 23 years old so hopefully the young man is gone through therapy and has his mind right so he won't through away his promising career as one of the best CB's in the NFL.
 
I take this to mean that we are snooping heavy for a cb....I'd assume we have been very busy behind the scenes telling teams they are open to trade for players in contract years or whatnot...probably how we get lumped in with a guy we obviously won't pursue.
 
I would expect the discovery of life on Mars would happen before this does.

And at least the Mars news would be good.

It would be silly not to at least ask the Titans what they want for Pac Man Jones. I think the Texans are just looking but not interested in buying.

Yes it would, in fact it would be down right craptasticly moronic on a titanic level. If the titans do not find a taker they either will keep him which could divide the locker room or they are going to have to release him. Either way I want no part of this scumbag.

Not quite. Percieved interest can drive the value up. Getting one team to spend its remaining cap could help another team in negotiations with a player that the teams had mutual interest in.

Moreover, FAs with offers that are currently on the table are now under some pressure to make a decision.

There is value, just depends on how you leverage it.
 
you can say no all you want to, but at the end of the day, I'm not going to say it couldn't happen. A lot of holes to fill, not as many draft picks high enough to do it as you like, and in spite of us wanting to believe we are a high character organization, we have had our fair share of police blotter ink. Jerome Mathis, Fred Weary, somebody who DUI'd that I can't recall at the moment, its not like we only hire boy scouts. We are a football team, he is a football player. Do I think its likely? No, because I can't imagine he'd want to come here. But I think its certainly possible, and shouldn't be instantly dismissed.
 
I would be embarrassed as a fan if we got this scumbag. I'm not against us bringing in guys with a couple of problems here and there - I'm certainly not as married to our 'character policy' as our front office is - but this is different. This guy is a habitual criminal! Not just a guy who has screwed up once, or even a handful of times.

I've already started making fun of the members of my friends and family who are Cowboy fans for their future acquisition of Pacman. Man, it would really be embarrassing to have to face them if we signed him. LOL

That said - that article is total BS. I don't care how reputible the writer is or isn't - there's no way we have the slightest bit of interest in Pacman.

How do you fill a hole with a guy who is constantly getting into trouble. At this point he has a massive bullseye on his chest. The next time he jaywalks he probably gets arrested.
 
Also - let's remember that if Bob McNair were any more religious, his last name would be Osteen. There's just no way he'd bring this guy in.
 
I'm definitely interested! He'd be a one year option and we'd probably let him hit FA therefore he's going to be pumped for a huge contract year. Low character or not, I want my Houston Texans to win some football games. I don't like his personal life but I'm looking for football players. He would allow us to relax our search for a CB and maybe move our focus over to RB and OL in the draft. I'm not really too keen on the CB/FS choices via the draft this season.
 
Another thing to remember is that he's under contract with the Titans. There's NO WAY Bud Adams would allow him to go do a division opponent, especially the Texans. Here's a guy who DEMANDED that his team take Vince Young in the draft when it was widely known after (according to several stories) that the Titans braintrust (minus Bud) wanted Matt Leinert. Bud's in the business of sticking it to Houston, despite still living and working there.

You think he would take a guy as talented in the return game, and as a CB to play his team twice a year? No way. He'd only do it if we offered up a ridiculous package for him, and we're obviously not going to do that.
 
as Vinny astutely formulated- Texans where probably lumped in the mix cause Rick & Co. have been pounding the pavement for cb help.

I for one would be interested only if I felt he could be transformed into a model citizen. Above & beyond society norms. the benefit would be more to Adam Jones (first thing is to drop the nickname :bomb:) & the community off the field (helps others, charity, role model etc....) with on field results taking on more of a secondary role.

In other words there is real opportunity here but I doubt the Texans or any other NFL team for that matter would be up for the real task @ hand, restoring honor & integrity to an individual who has lost it all.

All the more reason he'd be pretty cheap and have to behave like a complete choirboy.

Think about it, other than trying to join that wrestling bunch, what mischief has he gotten into during his year-long suspension?
And he HAS to know that his next transgression - even the aforementioned jaywalking - means he's banned for life.
Face it, if there's one guy in the NFL that needs to be a model citizen, its PacMan Jones.

Ray Lewis learned his lesson and turned from thug wannabe into face of the franchise. So has Allen Iverson. So it can be done.

I'm with beerlover, this is a chance to give a guy a chance to redeem himself. It'll be interesting to see if any team in the league is willing to risk the wrath of self-righteous fans and give him a chance. And think about this, if he DOES screw up again, I mean so much as gets caught littering, no one would blame team X for giving him the boot.

The more I think about this, the smaller the downside gets.

Couldn't agree more he would mak a great football palyer and that's what we need. The question is Can he do the right thing and be able to play games for us?
 
Go to Google News and type in Texans and cornerback. I don't think it's any secret that the Texans are looking - and thus linked to any speculation of CB acquistion when the subject comes up - regardless of how ridiculous the speculation may be.
 
Rick probable just didn't hang up on MR as soon as he called us begging to take Crackman off his hands.

Agreed. This is a lose lose situation. First we're helping a division opponent & then we end up with a guy who will probably get suspended again. No way.:thumbdown

2nd chance?!? Pacman burned through his second chance many, many moons ago. My guess is that he's in double digits on chances at this point.

And even if Pacman himself decides to clean up his act (his interviews and subsequent actions pretty clearly show he has not), he'll still have his posse that is about one step below the Huns in its marauding fury. Since I live in this city, I'd rather not have his crew here.

Exactly............Following his suspension (not to mention things that happened under the cloud of impending suspension) , he continued to get into trouble............he was caught speeding in a car that was involved in a prior drug bust; he continued to evaluate the interior design of strip clubs, graduating to popping a female in the mouth (from just spitting on them), although under unexplained circustances, charges were dropped; and he is now still being investigated for close ties to arrested drug dealer Darryl Moore:

In another incident, Darryl Moore, a convicted drug dealer, was the target of an investigation that yielded the biggest drug bust in Nashville history, with a ton of marijuana and cocaine discovered. Moore is not only a friend of Jones, but the Cadillac that was seized as part of the bust had "Pac-Man" embroidered in the front seats. In taped conversations, it was alleged that Jones not only did drugs but sold them out of his house.

That "benign" obstructing a police officer act doesn't seem so benign anymore. And now he's a CONVICTED FELON:

Jones had been parked in a Bentley with his girlfriend and a friend outside her home in Fayetteville. Police noticed the car and approached Jones to talk with him.

They charged him with one felony count of obstruction of a police officer and two misdemeanors after they accused him of throwing a punch and biting an officer's hand. Ballard said the skin was not broken, but Jones was hindering an officer.

"Pacman bit him. If you open up your hand, that space between the thumb and pointer finger, that little skin there, that's where the officer was bit," Ballard said.

If Jones is allowed to return to the NFL (and, in my opinion that would destroy Goodell's credibility as Mr. NFL Cleanup ), the next unsavory "incident" (expect locker room turmoil from the beginning though) that Jones is involved with will not only send Jones to selling used cars and create a "loss" of player on whatever sorry team picks him up on, but the team will probably suffer associated additional losses. The worm (SCUMBAG to some) ain't gonna turn.

Something that, in the past, both Goodell and judges (and I'm sure many others) have told Jones is "You need BETTER FRIENDS."............................anyone out there want to volunteer?????????????

Strip clubs...I remember seeing Otis thorpe and Sleepy at the Colorado Club about 4 or 5 hrs after they got their arses kicked in LA during a playoff series.

On July 13, 2005 Jones was arrested on charges of assault and felony vandalism stemming from a nightclub altercation. On September 5, 2005 Jones was a guest at the annual Nashville Sports Council Kickoff Luncheon. After a loud verbal tantrum when he was told to wait in line for his vehicle later that evening, Jones was counseled by the police. He also refused to pay for any valet services used that evening, because he didn't have money at the time. On October 2005, in a petition filed by the State of West Virginia, it was alleged that Jones had not made regular and sufficient contact with his probation officer and that he did not report his July arrest in Nashville in a timely fashion. The court ordered the probation extended for a period of 90 days, although the state requested it to be extended one year.

On June 20, 2007, the Las Vegas Police and Clark County District Attorney's office announced that Jones would face two felony charges stemming from the strip club melee.[30] But on November 13th, 2007, Jones accepted a plea deal[31]; on Dec. 6, Jones pleaded no contest to one charge of conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct, a misdemeanour. He was given a suspended prison sentence of a one-year, probation, and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.[32]

Well technically he was not convicted of anything, he has always plead out the case.

Not this last court action, at least he did not avoid the "convicted felon" label......it's explained in the text of my article link above (CONVICTED FELON)..........and it goes along with a measly $500 fine, but with 3 year probation. BTW, the last time he was on probation, he ended up back in court because he failed to follow up with his counselor. There's little to believe that he will maintain his probation restrictions this time.

I doubt we acquire him by trade. I'm guessing nobody is going to give Bud anything for Jones, and he will end up getting cut. Then a bidding war will probably go on, and I'm sure most of the contracts aren't going to be multi-year big contracts.

Whether the Texans do it, I don't know. I think they might try to lowball him and see if he bites. If he wants to play for the Texans he'd probably have to sign a contract that was heavy with eligibility incentives. This way if he ends up still being a knucklehead, they can just cut him, and take a minimal cap hit. He doesn't bring the team down, just the teams image.
