ALGE IS A TITAN

On Friday, there were reports that free-agent tight end Alge Crumpler was poised to sign with the Seahawks.

It didn't happen.

Instead, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Crumpler has joined the Titans, a team flush with cap space and in desperate need of a boost to the passing game.

Crumpler became a Pro Bowler in Atlanta while playing with a run-oriented quarterback who often found Crumpler open while scrambling out of the pocket.

So, basically, Crumpler could be a Pro Bowler again in Tennessee.

when the titan fans thought they had missed out on him, they started pointing out that it was for the best since Crumpler supposedly has bad knees. they'll change their tune fast now!

Not a bad pick up for them. Their new/old OC has used the TE effectively before. I don't think he is a game breaker but still not bad. He had more TDs than Daniels did last season. However OD had a better YPC and more yards. He is 30 but how he plays could depend on how he decides to work out.

He does have bad knees.... but he's not that old, this will be his 8th season. Everytime we have played him he seems to not want to go across the middle too often. We'll see how it works out though.

Also, Alge hasn't signed with anyone and his agent is saying the rumor that he agreed to terms is false.

So he went from playing with a QB that cant throw, runs first, and makes bad decisions to another QB that cant throw, runs first, and makes bad decisions.

It really seems just more appropriate than anything else. Now all thats left is to somehow get Vince interested in Pit Bulls.

CRUMPLER'S AGENT DENIES REPORT OF TITANIC DEAL

In response to a report that tight end Alge Crumpler has agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans, Crumpler's agent denied that a deal is done.

''Where did you see that report?" agent James Williams told TitansRadio.com. "We talked on Sunday, lets put it that way. He has not signed a contract nor agreed to anything.''
Per PFT.

I'd take Winslow over either of those guys. Guy has heart and plays with an intensity that Gates and Gonzalez lack. Great hands in traffic too...loses concentration on a few easy ones but makes up for it with the tough catch when you need it.

I would definitely take Winslow over Gonzo, but Gates?--no way. What Winslow did this last year finally started to look like what Gates has done for the past 5 years. Plus, Gates' character so far appears higher--and I am making no reference in that to the soldier comment which I found the controversy on to be totally absurd.

Doesn't Winslow also have issues with his knee that he injured in that motorcycle accident? Gates is by far the better TE.

A late push by the Tennessee Titans was able to give Vince Young a big target, tight end Alge Crumpler, to help him be more efficient at quarterback.

Crumpler agreed to a two-year deal that he plans to sign on Monday in Nashville, according to a source close to the situation.

According to the Nashville Tennessean, the deal will be worth $5 million and includes a $1 million signing bonus.

winslow only has 2-3 nfl years left in him at most before DD(W)-itis sets in. shame could've been a HoF'er

Crumpler's a good but not great get for the Titans. He's getting a little age on him combined with recent injuries, but I'd still rather see them going with Scaife and whoever else it was they went with last year. Crumpler will improve them, but I don't think he moves them to the next level.

What I don't understand is that if I were the Titans, I'd be throwing as much money as I possibly could at Randy Moss (and sign Culpepper as a backup if it sealed the deal). It really turns my stomach to say this, but Moss could be the difference between the Titans being a marginal playoff team, and being a legitimate contender for the Super Bowl. They have more cap money than all but 3 or 4 other teams (in excess of $35MM prior to the start of FA), and with the exception of Crumpler, I haven't seen them spend any of it yet. It would also give them a big leg up in determining if VY can take them to the promised land, or if all the haters (which admittedly now includes me) are correct.

Bud Adams is a notorious cheapskate, but he has shown a willingness in the past to make a splash on occasion (anyone here old enough to remember Webster Slaughter). If he doesn't do this (or attempt to do it - I realize Moss may just not want to go to Nashville), it makes me wonder whether he's gone permanently cheap, or if Fisher and Co. are just so tied to the run that even having the most explosive, game-changing WR in football isn't viewed as incredibly attractive.

For all I know, the Titans may be burning up the phone lines with Moss and his agent - we haven't heard any news about Moss at all except rumor and second-hand comments. While I can't express here how much I hope this doesn't happen, this is a rare (very rare) situation where I believe breaking the bank for one player may be worth all the risks that go with it.

But, Crumpler was able to thrive with Vick. Should be a good pickup for the Titans, who will probably use him as a 3rd down TE. They still need to find a blocking TE in the draft.

A pro bowl TE is a scrambling qb's best friend. Not good for the Texans.

I think you hit the bullseye Joker, I heard about this signing and was disgusted because I think Crumpler is a very good TE. He always seemed to get open when Vick was scrambling around and picked up big yardage on those plays.

Over the years I have spent time lurking on other teams message board, including the Falcons. In that time, Falcons fans were hot and cold on Crumpler. When he is going good, they loved him, but they would also complain about the number of drops that he had too..

So Vince gets another couple of season to blame the other guy then ... :whip:

HA!! Man, it took you way too long to chime in. I've been waiting for your response.. :pirate:

I am actually suprised there are not more comments about us being the old Falcons with Crumpler and now looking at Dunn. Crumpler was a good pickup if he can stay healthy. Dunn is washed up IMO but who knows he might help ... he certainly cannot be worst then C Henry.

We had plenty of talk around here about Dunn also. I think Dunn has something left in the tank (enter caveat) for the right fit team. Somehow, I really dont see that fit here or in Nashville. We'll see though.

You know, the Titans need a QB that can get the ball to Crumpler and I heard Joey H. is available. :whip:
