Texans listed as interested in Lito Sheppard

It's only been 24 hours since the Philadelphia Eagles signed cornerback Asante Samuel, but they're already hearing from teams interested in trading for the cornerback Samuel replaced in the starting lineup.

A league source tells PFT that several teams are showing preliminary interest in trading for cornerback Lito Sheppard. Those teams include the Texans, Saints, Buccaneers, Browns, Rams and Jets.

A team can never have too many good cornerbacks, and the Eagles could choose to keep Sheppard, especially if they move right cornerback Sheldon Brown to safety. But given how much interest there is in Sheppard, it seems more likely that he'll be shipped elsewhere.

Never played a full season as a starter. I hope we don't offer anything more then a 5th for him.

If a starting DT is worth a 3rd and a 5th, what's a starting CB worth?

Answer: More.

I guess we'll find out how desperate the Texans are at CB. I don't see them spending the picks it will take to sign him, even though he has four years left on his deal and the base amounts aren't all that bad. I know they're dying over not having a second rounder this year. To give up even more picks .... I just don't see them doing it. At least I hope they don't.

And yes, it would answer the CB question for this year's draft but look at what you're doing to the future by sending more of your picks out the door ...

As long as there's a cap this isn't sound strategy. Now if the owners opt out, who cares? Be the Yankees for all I care. Just don't keep raising our parking cost.

I was interested at looking at a 66 GTO until I saw the price tag. But I guess you could still list me as interested. The more teams that are listed as "interested" the more valuable the players become. Smith probably called, got the price, laughed, and hung up.

No way do we spend a third on an injury prone CB that has only finished 1 complete season back in 2003.

He only missed 2 games last year. Just thinking would the 3rd you picked up if you traded Sage & trading our 1st for Philly's 2nd get the deal done?
He's a former ALL-Pro.

rd2 Nicks
rd3 Godfrey
rd4 Red Bryant
Rd5 Corey Boyd
rd6 Zuttah
Rd7 Louis Holmes

FA's Bobby McCray, L. Jordan, Hadnot, Bentley, Landon Johnson

Casserly, is that you?

With the money they just gave Reeves and with Hutchins signing with Atl, he's the starter opposite Fred until if/when Dunta comes back. There will likely be another CB taken in the draft. Forget Lito. Ain't happening.

I agee that it won't happen... Unless we see the Sage deal happen. If it does, then who knows!

I didn't know Hutchins signed with Atlanta. I wonder how much $ he got? I will have to look it up.

What about this year's 4th and next year's 4th for Lito? That would take care of CB in the draft and still hope we can move back from #18 and pick another pick somewhere. We would be in hole next year though like this year. Just a thought. Don't know enough about it if that would get it done, plus the $ Lito would command.

I hear what you are saying about not shipping our picks out of the door, I would like build through the draft as well, I am just thinking hypothetically if it could get done. Is it feasible? It would be a bold move for sure, like last year for Schaub and Green.

If the market for a starting DT is a 3 & a 5 then the market for a starting CB will be higher.

I would expect that at least this year's 3 & 4 would be needed to get it done.

Wow, that would hurt too much, unless Rick worked some serious magic with that #18 we have. As much as I like Lito, I would rather draft 2 DB's.

If we get Lito we won't have to draft a CB.

I still see us taking a CB/FS even if we get Lito due to the that fact that I cant see Reeves playing anything but nickel. I dont care how much his contract was for he will not be starting for long

Can ANYONE TELL ME WHY IN THE NAME OF (CURSE) did we give an EXTREMELY AVERAGE CORNER 20 MILLION?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

i know he's not getting the full 20 but still. COME ON.

I haven't seen what the asking price is. I have a feeling it's going to be more than we want to pay. I'd prefer to keep all of our draft choices.

Philly players have a tendency to look great playing in the Philly scheme, go somewhere and bomb (Trotter, Douglas, Dhahni Jones, for example), and then go back to Philly and play well. (Then Dhahni Jones has gone on to play for yet another team.) So I'm not sold that he's going to come here and be a great player for us.

I'd rather build through the draft than spend a lot to get this guy. There's so many quality CB's, I'd perfer to take that route.

Personally, I'd love to sign a guy like shepperd if it means Reeves can cover the nickel spot wich would keep Faggins off the field most of the time. But only if the price is right.
Petey just scares me whenever he is near the ball.

Yep, just like Ravens and Patriots. I believe they wanted a 2nd for him. No way I do that, even if we had one.

And give him a new contract, he's only 27 and could probably be a better bandaid then Jaques Reeves. The biggest problem though is that he wants a new contract and between Dunta, Bennett, and Molden, we'd be pretty crowded at CB. (Not neccessarily a bad thing)

Maybe if they got him to play safety...

What would we trade? IMO, SmithGM is not going to trade anymore draft picks away.

What do we have that they need? WR's maybe? :texflag:

LOL, Simmons for Sheppard!! At first I thought Andre Davis, but then thought better of it, Davis has alot more value (to us at least) then sheppard does. Then I thought maybe a 5th or 6th, but if its no go on the draft picks ala Smithy, thats shot down too... I wonder if we could get them Greenwood, they seem to like linebackers.

Jacoby Jones, this way if he pans out he can screw dullas twice a year.

IMO, we have tradeable depth at WR and...hold your nose, RB. Throw in a middle round draft pick and this deal could happen. I'm not an expert, but I still think we need help at CB or we're probably headed to 8-8 or worse. Guess it just depends on what folks expectations are. I just don't want to watch our front 4 put on a minimum rush cause we're scared to leave our corners alone.

Maybe it's good I don't work in the Texans FO for I would surely pull a CC and mortgage our future away. Of course I could get a CBS gig afterwards...

The Philadelphia Eagles have lost their No. 1 receiver for what is being described as “a significant amount of time.”

Coach Andy Reid confirmed today that wide receiver Kevin Curtis will have sports hernia surgery. Curtis got hurt in Thursday’s preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. He attempted to practice but hasn’t been able to go full speed since.

Reid said the Eagles will not bring in another wide receiver, and the starters heading into Friday’s preseason game at New England will be rookie DeSean Jackson and either Hank Baskett or Greg Lewis. Reggie Brown is out with a hamstring injury.

In his first four seasons in the NFL, Curtis was mostly a role player and third receiver for the Rams. But after signing with the Eagles last year Curtis had his best season, leading the Eagles with 1,110 receiving yards on 77 catches.

I do as well Gary. Of course it does depend on what the asking price is.

However, I would much rather sign a guy who I KNOW is a really good CB which Lito certainly is rather than take chances at drafting some guy that has potential or HYPE. Lito has had some injury issues though. Nothing major, but he has missed a few games from time to time.

Regardless though, if we did get him I would consider our CB situation solved. Then we could focus on drafting a really quality safety.

Give them Jacoby and 6th Rounder for Sheppard. I would go to war with Reeves, Sheppard, and Bennett...then halfway through season we get DRob back. Position goes from being a weakness currently to being a strength by the stretch run.

If they dont want Jones, I don't know if Schaub would be happy if the team moved Walter for Sheppard and maybe a pick or prospect. Walter was kinda his security blanket last year. You don't want to disrupt that chemistry unless its a deal that blows you away.

Is he still out there?

If the owners opt out, I hope McNair makes the Yankees look like cheepskates. :thisbig:
