Abbate Waived

According to Pro Football Weekly, the Texans waived John Abbate yesterday. It is shown on the PFW Texans page under transactions.
Evidently, he failed a physical.
I didn't see anything about it on the official site.

Well, that's disappointing news. I know they had him on IR last year, but I thought that his injury was minor and it was more of a way to protect him from being taken by another team. I'd be curious to find out what happened to him as far as his injury.

I like the kid, he played pretty good in the pre-season IMO, but what do I know.

This probably means another season of Jameel "butter-fingers" Cook. ughhhh.

EDIT: Just re-read it and saw that they release him because of his failed physical test. Thats too bad, hopefully he'll recover one day and play again.

Clearly a case of "I saw someone write this one time and I'm going to repeat it without looking into it".

I mean I'm sure you realize he has 2 fumbles in 100 touches and 7 years in the league. In fact both of his fumbles came in about a 3 week span in the same year.

Why let facts get in the way of a good argument?

I'll never forgive him for losing that game against the Giants. To me, hes known for his fumbles cause of that game.

If that's the case then we need to start over. The list of games each player on this roster has screwed up in one way or another is way too long to bother writing. Tell me, do you blame Daunte for his blown coverage in the Titans game? Since that fumbles how many fumbleless games have we won? Does he get any credit for them?

Mike

Umm, ok. I seen MORE good from Dunta plays then bad. Really it outweighs the bad. Cook on the other hand, haven't done crap since being here.

My guess would be you've seen exactly TWO plays made by Cook and not really paid attention to who the fullback was unless he screwed up and fumbled. Cook is a very solid player and there was PLENTY of blame to go around even for THAT game.

Nice how you dont mention that the defense let the Giants go all the way down the field in the final 2 minutes for the winning score.

It's all Cook's fault though. He has two fumbles in his entire career. What a scrub.

Agreed.

Well, thats one way to catch someones attention.

Besides, being on special team, what does he do well on offense? Please enlighten me, cause I sure don't know.

Do you really pay attention when Cook is out there on offense? The only time I saw him this season, was in the first Indy game. How many times have you seen him on offense besides that? Do you really know hes a solid FB, or just saying it?

Oh, and I been watching the texans for two years and haven't miss a game. If Cook did something noteable, I would've noticed.

.. or leach is doing his job

Exactly. If you don't see him on the field, then how do you know he's SOLID?

That's like saying Jordan Black is solid. I never seen him do bad, but thats good for an o-line. Wow guys seriously.

Btw, Solid to me means contributing more to the team then hurting.

LOL. I cant help but laugh at people that dont watch special teams.

Just cuz a guy isnt a "starter" doesn't mean he cant contributre to a team.

I love watching special teams myself. That's where the slobber-knockers are. Cook, Cox, Clark and Dreesen made some sweet hits that still stick out at me. I think Faggins even got some slobber on him a time or two.

Special Teams + Suicidal Kamikaze Hits = Love it! :aggressive:

I heard from someone close to the situation today saying the Texans re-signed Abbate for 1.8 mil. He was let go due to his injured reserve status, and then quickly signed to a new contract.

Not sure if it's a one year deal or what, but I imagine he'll challenge for a roster spot at FB.

I might be wrong, but I think his IR status should only last until the end of the current season, so he should have been off the list once the season ended.

I emailed the Texans and they replied that he was re-signed and not released.

Then I looked at the info on that page and at the bottom, it list "V.P. of football operations and GM: Charley Casserly", I figured the hacks of this publication were alittle off on their "news".

On the email I sent them, I did however thank them getting the name of the team right!
