never saw or heard much about him until i saw mike mayocks piece about the o-linemen

and my conclusion is WOW! ive never seen an o-lineman move like he does.. an o-lineman thta moves as well as that has to be in the mix for us at #18 if he lasts that long
 
Wow. I'm impressed to say the least. His height worries me if he is left at guard, but what a hand punch. I think he would be an average LT, but judging by that tape, he has all-pro potential at guard. He seems to fit the ZBS with his ability to move, and if I'm not mistaken, they run a version of the ZBS at Virginia.
 
Albert is a freak of nature with his agility at his size. We Hoos were sad when he declared, but nobody could blame him. He played guard only because the team had promised Eugene Monroe (a top 15 recruit his year) that he would be the LT upon D'Brickashaw's graduation. But Albert was the star of the offensive line from the moment he first lined up in a game.

In the Gator Bowl last month (ugh), we ran a swing pass to him--he was stopped for minimal gain, but he clearly had fun with it. The hope was that we'd run more plays like that next year to increase his visibility, but if he gets into the first round, he will have made the right choice coming out.

UVA revamped its offense over the last three years (without Schaub, our West Coast passing game wasn't as effective), so Albert has played some ZBS and some traditional man-up schemes during his time in Charlottesville.

He has the physical tools to play tackle, but he rarely played it at UVA. I'm definitely in favor of stocking the roster with Hoos, but at this point, picking him at 18 would be a reach.

why?

if hes as good as he looks, i dont think its a reach at all @ #18
 
We drafted Charles Spencer for the LT position and he was projected to be a guard and played guard at the senior bowl IIRC. He was drafted in the 3rd, but if this guy is 1st round material and Kubiak thinks he can switch him to LT, why not pick him up. Lord knows we could use all the help we can get at LT.

I wonder if Schaub will be asking us to draft a fellow Hoo.

He seems to to be the OLG we have looked for, Pitts should be a RG imo. How crazy would this group go if we drafted a guard in the 1st. :gun:

But Spencer looked very good at OG and was drafted in the 3rd round and then moved to OT. Drafting this guy at 18 to put him at a new position and expect instant starter, which we do with our 18 pick. He seems like an instant starter at OG though.

but is there a reason to think hes an 'average' LT.. and anyway having a G like that would be great anyway..(people cite joe thomas as the reason the browns turned it around but remember that they signed steinbech too)
 
a very smart friend of mine says he's the best o-linemen in the draft. i personally know nothing of him.

I have him as a top 35 player right now.

I think he'll go near the end of round 1 or at the very beginning of round 2.

I think he's going to be gone right around where you say. I was thinking of the Steelers losing some of their top OL talent and went to check where they drafted- NFLdraftcountdown has the Steelers actually taking him. I think the teams at the end of the draft could decide to beef up their OL and virtually all the teams at the top of the 2nd NEED OL help- I think there is going to be a lot of O-linemen taken by mid-2nd round.
 
all the Mockers have Seattle taking a Rb in thier slot. The fact of the matter is the o-line, which fetures a future HOF canidate on it, hasn't done squat since they lost Hutchinson. Albert makes a perfect fit to the Hawks. Perfect storm. Value meets the need in a very rich Rb class.
 
So how would everyone feel if we were to take him, Branden Albert at #18???

The more I read about him the more I'm impressed. Sounds like he could be a great fit for our team and maybe a player that Gibbs likes, those O-linemen with the 'fire'.

The way I see it is that we're not even set at Guard. Pitts looks to be here, but Weary is injured, Studdard hasn't shown he needs to be in the starting lineup, is Briesel the guy? Will Spencer swith to guard IF he ever comes back?

I'm all for letting Kubiak and Gibbs cherry-pick "their" guys in the later rounds and let them develop, but if a guy of Albert's talent is there- they could fall in love.

IF we were to select him I could see him starting next season at a Guard spot and backing up Salaam at Left Tackle. I'd see him getting significant time practicing at LT at least during camp. I believe Gibbs/Kubiak would be able to tell if they should keep him practicing there or not.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be upset in the least if they decided he was the guy for our team. (Cornerback is just such a huge issue, I hope we find out soon what we're going to be doing about that).

He called it the best collection of tackles he's seen in a draft class in 24 years and noted that many of the tackles could play on either the left side or right side. That group could include Kansas' Anthony Collins, who played on the left side and right side during his college career and said this morning that he'd be ready to play either spot in the NFL.

Wow! I knew (actually heard/read) it would be a pretty deep class at the OT position, but I had no idea it would be that good. I don't think there will be any Joe Thomases (NFL ready) in this class that will be instant Pro Bowlers, but it seems to be a good solid deep class where you will find alot of value in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and maybe even later.

I guess the only question for us as Texans is will Gibbs break his pattern and go after one in the 1st round, or will he wait until the 3rd or later? With this class so deep, I think he will wait until the later rounds, but you never know. He could see someone in the 1st, like Albert or Williams, he feels are too good to pass up. JMHO! :texflag:
 
Tackles we don't need no stinking tackles...Salaam is our all pro stud. Cak says we can get one late and watch him kill grass for two years. Sorry, but I find another chapter of Seth Wand II....redundant.
 
Seems like a guy I would love to have as a Texan.

Just fantasizing, but how sick would it be able to draft both Brandon Albert and Chris Williams?!
