WTF 5 RD. w/trades Mock

this one was too cool not to share not only is it a full 5 rounds, it includes some inventive draft trades that really make things interesting, one including the Houston Texans.

The Houston Texans trade the 18th pick in the draft to the Miami Dolphins for the 33rd and 58th pick.

w/18th pick Miami selects one of the big three CB's (something I would expect the Texans to do) excellent value for them here if the Texans want to trade down this would be a tough choice, I'm undeceided depends how high Mike Jenkins is rated on the Texans draft board certainly fills the #1 off season need (Texans).

33rd pick Houston Texans(via Dolphins)-Reggie Smith, CB, Oklahoma
Another solid defensive player for a team that is going to be built around its defense.

I like this pick here, again addresses corner need & when Dunta returns to full speed Reggie, who has a nose for the football, can tackle & cover offers the option to be moved to FS.

58th pick Houston Texans (via Dolphins via Chargers)-Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas I don't know how long it would take before he was the most popular Texans player ever, but I don't think it would be that long.

A Longhorn? go figure like that's ever happend early before, J/K. I see him becoming an excellent slot receiver causing mismatches for LB's, under rated hands with blinding speed, the bonus is he looks like a #2 WR to me.

3rd rd. Houston Texans-Erik Young, G, Tennessee A great player with an even greater motor, a solid pick up for the Texans while they build that offensive line.

Would he come in and fill the void left by the injured Weary from day one? he has the size & athletic ability to make the jump assuming he too is healthy.

4th rd. Houston Texans-Michael Hamlin, S, Clemson An absolute steal in the fourth round, he has a chance to start right away for the Texans.

to be honest I don't know anything about him, anyone? does once again address the secondary.

5th rd. Houston Texans-Tony Hills, OT, Texas That offensive line is still not up to the standards they need to succeed.

Future franchise LT & another Longhorn? my guess is the locals love this draft- two Longhorns, two db's, two OL & RB/offensive weapon :)
 
That was a good read and some interesting analysis. But there is one error I spotted: the pick he has in the second round for the Cowboys--Eugene Monroe, OT from Virginia--is not in the draft. Mean Gene did not declare and has one more year at UVA. I initially thought he was confusing Monroe with Branden Albert, an OL from UVA who did declare, but he has Albert going in a later round.

Just a nitpick, I admit.

Hamlin is returning to Clemson for his senior season.
 
Boy I'd love to have a slew of 3rd rounders if the draft turned out this way...trade both those 2nd rounders away for 3rd rounder + future picks.

as he has it.

3rd round:
16- Erik Young, G, Tennessee- Develop into a great guard
17- Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson- Pass Rusher we could really use
28-Steve Justice, C, Wake Forest- Center + one of the best interior linemen in the draft
31- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB/S, TN St.- Need I explain???
32- Patrick Lee, CB, Auburn- solid CB

1st pick in the 4th is Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers

Time to Cherry pick.

I could live with the trade down, some questionable ranking on a few guys, and WTF is the thinking that the Texans will be only looking at Big 12 players.

round 2 pick 1 Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy St more of a pure CB than Smith. Smith ends up as a Safety IMO.
round 2 pick 32 Ahtyba Rubin, DT, Iowa State it's there mock not mine...
Round 3 pick 16 Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska
round 4 pick 19 Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina
round 5 pick 18 Kenny Iwebema, DE, Iowa.
 
lmao why would Parcells of all people trade his two second rounders (with one basically being a first rounder) to move up and grab a good cornerback in a deep corner draft?
 
never examined the full content of this mock draft, good catches guys on the players/prospects who are not draft eligible. what captured my interest was Texans selections with the trade down plus all the other possible trade sceneros (which are uncommon to be included via draft services, hence WTF posts to see if anything sticks, but more than anything demonstrate creativity of football fans infatuated with NFL Draft process & their teams possiblities). here once again are the proposed trades-

The Dallas Cowboys trade the 22nd, 28th, and 93rd picks to the New England Patriots for the 7th, 127th, and 159th draft picks.

must be anti cowboy fan this trade would suck for them giving up two #1s basicly to move up for a player who should still be on the board outside the top 10. they could wait & trade with a team like Buffalo to select him & still have two first rd. picks. very one sided for the pats.

The Minnesota Vikings trade the 17th, 74th, and 2009 4th round draft pick for the 11th pick held by the Buffalo Bills.

the 11th-15th picks are attractive to make trades because someone unexpected is suddenly available another team covets, still I see no reason for the Vikings to give up picks when Calais Campbell or Derek Harvey would still be available. it seems to me what drives these trades more of less are the extra picks these teams hold so it does give you some idea of the ammunition GM's will be holding, dealing or not is another thing.

The Seattle Seahawks trade the 25th, 56th, and 118th picks to the Atlanta Falcons for the 38th, 49th and 69th draft picks.

this is a very interesting trade, Seattle trades down & still addresses RB with Felix Jones, the top center prospect Pollack & LG help Kraus. while Atlanta adds a stud DT Balmerm, QB Henne & pass rushing DE Ellis. actually sense its already been noted Hamlin is not coming out in the draft (Texans pick in the 4th) I'm going to change our pick to DE Chris Ellis, wow what a great 4th rd. pick-up he would be.

The Buffalo Bills trade the 72nd and 73rd picks to the Chicago Bears for the 45th pick.

Attractive offer for two high 3rd picks, if it where me I'd take Collins who goes with the next pick to Detroit. unless the Texans trade down they just don't have the firepower to outbid the Bills to get him. Xavier Adibi is a great looking athlete, think his best position is OLB in a 3-4.

And finally the New England Patriots trade the 28th pick to the Cleveland Browns for the 57th pick and the Browns 2009 2nd Round pick.

if anybody in their right minds trades with New England they should be stripped of their position. stock piling picks again is the battle cry, guess they need to save money to re-sign Assante Samuel & Randy Moss which begs the question, why help them do that?
