Coaching Staff

M@DD Mike

Practice Squad
Is this the staff to take the team to the postseason? I don't think so. Hat's off to building a great young team but I don't believe this is a winning staff. How many times last season did you scream at the tv "what are you doing..."
The play calling left much to be desired in a few games that could have easily went in our favor.

well i gurantee if they had ran the plays differently the way you think they should have done,. and they still didnt work you would have been screaming "what are you doing". I think Capers can take us all the way to where we want to be !

I don't want to see draw plays on third and long when we're down late in the game. If the players mess the play up that's one thing but give them shot to make the play. Some games it seems the play calling favors Carr's abilities most other times he isn't put in the position to win. More aggressive offense is the only way to win when the defense needs help.

Why dont you actually give them a chance after building the "good young" team as you say.... with 3 full years under thier belt.

Remember.... we are not even into the 4th year of the 5 year plan yet.

PATIENCE!!!!!

yeah we dont have all the pieces in place yet to turn the offense loose like the colts do, next season i'm sure you'll see more of the kinda offense you like !

The staff is good enough IMO. The better question is are the players? If you have guys who lose their matchups, a certain play is going to look bad. Everyone one gets tired of the "execute" excuse, but that's what it comes down to.

Welcome to the board Mike. A couple of things you will quickly learn are that David Carr is a HOF QB and the coaching staff is equal to that of New England. Enjoy!

Does anyone get tired of hearing me say, "There was a reason these coaches didn't have jobs when we started our team!"

That's the first time I've heard it and I'm tired of it. First of all, some of the coaches were hired away from other jobs (i.e. Capers was DC in Jacksonville). Second, every coach that spends a good chunk of time in the NFL is going to get fired at some point. Show me an NFL team that doesn't have a bunch of coaches who have been fired at some point. You can cross the Patriots off the list first, since their head coach was jobless not so long ago.

Didn't Chris Palmer take a Cleveland team to the playoffs?

edit: nm.... he got axed.... but he WAS on a staff that had Belichick on it.... does that count as a pro?

ok mike this board is offically filled with people who say they love the texans and yet they always talk about how BAD our team is, or the fans like ME who love every thing about our team ! You'll learn quickly who the TRUE FANS are !

Yeah, I had just checked up on that.... I feel discouraged somewhat.

IMO some coaches make horrible head coaches but make pretty good offensive or defensive coordinators or assistants.

Gotta love the message board, always a good time!!!

na some OC and DC were never meant to be head coaches, that dont mean they aint good at other aspects of the game though !

That was the point of my post, some coaches make a good OC or DC but a horrible head coach.

haha come on Texans Pride i wasnt exactly talking about you ! But maybe we should give the coaching staff the 5 year plan they promised us before we jump the gun and have to teach a new system to all our players !

As long as our coaching staff wins more games than they did the previous season they are going to remain our coaching staff, improvement is improvement. Also I would like to talk about the good coaches we have, especially our secondary coach. I think his name is Hoke. Anyone who has watched "hey rookie" knows exactly what I'm talking about. That guy lays into young players, gets in their face and gives them no slack. He really brought out the best in dunta. I feel coaching wise, we are solid defensively. It's just the offense that’s iffy, but alot of that could be contributed to the pass protection and the offensive line. If we do not get the line in order this year I guarantee we will be looking for a new O line coach and also will be looking for a expensive free agent lineman even if it means losing one of our veteran players.

Yes!!!

Signed Bill Belichick

PS--trivia question, how many of the 32 head coaches are on their first head coaching job--ok simpler over or under on 16.5?

You are right TexansTruFan, I'm trying to hold on and be patient, but like you said in an early post, "Some OC's and DC's were never meant to be head coaches, that doesn't mean they aren't good at other aspects of the game."

I believe that may be the case here. I think Capers has already shown that, and I'd hate to waste two more years.

At the same time though, untill that OL can constantly hold up, we are not going to truly see what Capers and the rest of the team can do.

Bill, how's it going?

P.S. I think you are an amazing coach :)

Pretty good. Just one more year and we can start the "one for the thumb" chant. To bad we won't make it because we haven't panicked and spent the last three years worth of 1st round draft picks on OLmen and safeties.

I am a true Texan fan. No matter who the coaches are I would still root for them. I understand the whole building of the team and the 4 year plan but if the playcalling remains the same my beloved Texans will not be in the playoffs our division is too strong and before anyone says it I know we swept the titans and the jags but any team in the NFL would be hard pressed to do so two years in a row. I just want to see our great young team placed in a position to be winners.

Ditto. Capers is no head coach. He should be coaching defense somewhere.

Becky, looks like someone thought he was a pretty good head coach.

The Panthers, riding a defensive unit that ranked second in the league in points allowed, posted a 9-0 home record (including playoffs). Eight Panthers played in the Pro Bowl. Capers was named Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, among numerous other honors.

Oh, and how about being considered for the NFL Coach of the Year, as an assistant!

I got to say, I am impressed that Palmers name hasn't come up on this thread yet.. oops there I blew up

I'd like for the ones that think the coaching staff can't "cut" it to list reasons, I am just curious...
