Leodis McKelvin

I don't think he'll be there at #18. However, if he did slip down that far I'd love to see him as a Texan.

On a related note I really like Chevis Jackson of LSU as a day two pick, but I think he'd be better suited as a FS if the Texans were to pick him.

I've watched other top cb's in the draft, like Mike Jenkins in particular, ranked #1 CB by many who has speed but not excellent speed, is very good in coverage but is more finese/soft & is not very good at all in run support. Before Dunta Robinson went down even I was looking for a similar type of player @ CB who could handle coverage on an island, with closing speed/burst that also had mental toughness in run support, someone not afraid of contact but relished it using speed & technique.

In other words your always on the lookout for another Dunta type/style cover corner & Leodis looks like everthing you could want. I've been posting about him now for a couple weeks & while its exciting to watch a player you covet being showcased in an event such as the Senior Bowl it does bring into question his availablity @ #18?

If Leodis McKelvin is there, he not only fills a void/need for the Texans @ the top of their draft board, he would also likey be bpa :pirate:

You have, and I've been really interested in him since you started talking about him.

Your comparison to Dunta could go one step further. In 2004, even days before the draft Dunta was in several mocks going around our spot (18ish)....however we ended selecting him at #10 that year. Saints have the 10th pick this year and are def. looking for some secondary help. Someone so similar to Dunta might even go at 10.

Mckelvin is by far the best CB in this years draft i would be suprised if he falls to #18 but if he does he is the pick.

He starting to build a name for himself with his recent workouts. He didnt have the kind of hype that Jenkins and others have had

McKelvin should grade out higher than Jenkins but some teams will disagree, its a matter of opinion. I like McKelvin because of his expolsion & make-up speed which is better but Jenkins has size & strength. If Jenkins can run a faster than expected combine speed, his shuttle shines showcases his hands which are clearly better than McKelvin, then he should be the #1 CB taken. lets hope that happens & it pushes McKelvin to the texans :logo:

It all depends on the teams secondary schemes that are in front of us....ie...man, zone, tampa 2, etc.... That will be the biggest factor in what team drafts who, and quite frankly I don't know enough about the other teams except one will probably draft kenny phillips because they have that big enough of a need in the secondary.

This kid has looked great at the Senior Bowl practices this week and he's
probably the first CB taken in the Draft and easily a top tener, unless of course he'd have a bad combine in Indy and stink it up with his 40 time.

How about Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie? Heard he was looking pretty good.
he's got the name but his game needs refined & add strength. at this point he is a solid 2nd rd. selection. would be a steal for the Texans if still on the board with 3rd rd. pick but I doubt he lasts that long.

By far? You base this off what? A few Senior Bowl practices?
CB Mike Jenkins is good but his speed and footwork isn't as good as Leodis Mckelvin even though he played on a team that played a tougher schedule but it's clear to me and others that mckelvin is the best corner in this draft regardless of numbers. Don't be suprised if the Patriots select with the 7th pick in round 1 since they are going to loose Asante Samuel.:whip:

That would be my vote or gamble the kid from Auburn will be there in the third.
Patrick Lee has looked very nice this week. But we're reaching for need now.

Move down, pick up ammo. Which is exactly what Rick Smith aid he would do a couple of weeks go.

McKelvin didn't play in the Senior Bowl due to a pulled hammy he suffered in practice. Just thought I'd update those who tuned in to see him & wondered where he was at.

Did McKelvin's name get called today? I was on the computer while I was watching the game,so maybe I missed something, but I don't recall hearing or seeing him involved in any plays.Based on what I saw today,if we are planning on making a CB our first pick, if possible I would prefer to trade back and pick DR-C late in the first(if he jumps up that far) or in the second.I doubt he makes it into the third. One good thing about either DR-C or McKelvin is that both would give us another good return man to go along with Jones,A.Davis(if we re-sign him) and Mathis(if we keep him).

The stars of the game today was Dominique Rodgers Cromratie, Sedrick Ellis, trever Laws (short and stumpy from Dotre Dame) , And the Kentucky LB. Conner made great interception. Ellis made a saftey. Basically he was unblockable. Like I posted yesterday if Cinci wants him, they better make an offer to move up three slots. He's a top five DT.

Oh and all of you banging the board for Clot Brenner last year with our first round pick....nope. Guess again.
The guy is so bad he may not be drafted at all. That there thing is what they call a free agent. Stick that in your NC 2 AA pipe and smoke it. Never have I seen more man love with no merit than Colt Brenner. Takes more than stats to make it in the NFL. Gotta be able to throw a fifteen yard out and stick it. The only time Clot will ever do that is in his dreams.

I have new respect for Tashard Choice. Flacco will sky rocket up the boards the best arm bar none there beerlover, in the class. Bubba Cladwell is the real deal.

No Dc could knell at the fifty and get it through the goal posts with major athority. DC was a complete & total organizational failure. Believe what you want.

Oh, OK. brain on Senior Bowl but yes I liked what I saw in the East West Shrine but more of a 3rd project like Schaub. will need time to develop, but he is very fluid in motion, accurate with plenty of zip & much better NFL prospect than Colt.

Well, as long as it is clear to "PHAROAH" then that is all that matters. In which games were you most impressed by McKelvin?
