Al Davis to Lane Kiffin: Just quit, baby.

Second Honeymoon

Hall of Fame
Al Davis has reportedly drafted a letter of resignation for Lane Kiffin to sign. Kiffin has refused to do so. Davis must have woke up this morning and thought 'I want a new head coach' and was senile enough to think it would work. Does he have some head coach targeted to replace him? Who would want to work for this guy is probably a better question. Here is the link to Chris Mortenson's report. This is breaking so who knows how this plays out today.

That franchise is a mess and disgrace. Once Al Davis dies maybe the Raiders can be an NFL team again

Man, if that's true, Davis has to be the worst owner in the NFL. Just man up and fire the dude if you want a new coach already.

Man Al Davis is crazy as hell this is why they will not be winners until he crosses over to the Force LOL!!!!:pirate:

According to the first sentence in your article, it's Dennis Green.
:)
Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis has been pushing for coach Lane Kiffin to resign and is considering Dennis Green as a potential replacement, sources close to Kiffin and the team said.

Wasn't Dennis Green the coach and GM of the Cardinals or was he just the coach? Because if he wants personnel power in Oakland then the Raiders would probably be looking for a new head coach this time next year...

Denny Green is a solid NFL guy but how can Davis only give Kiffin one year? They even improved from last year. This deal smacks of senility. Didn't Al try a similar tactic with Shanahan back in his Raider days? Just sad and pathetic how someone who was once so great has become so utterly rotten.

One thing is for sure, if Kiffin is pushed out the door, many doors will open to him.....too late for HC consideration, but he would be a good addition to just about any coaching staff.

Maybe he'll go to Tampa Bay to work with his dad. I think he could get an opportunity as a college head coach as well.

Yeah, he will have no shortage of offers that is for sure. Any way you look at it, the guy is being done wrong. Maybe Al thought Lane could lure his dad Monte to Oakland and when he failed to be able to, he deemed Lane expendable in his master plan. If he was hiring a Cowher or a Carroll or someone like that, sure. maybe you make the move thinking that you found a better guy but is the rumored Green hiring a good thing? That is a powderkeg just waiting to go off. The day Green is fired, and all coaches get fired one day, there would be a press conference you need to set your TIVOs to record. I'd love to see Green go off on Al Davis.

Kiffin inherited a horrible team and went 4-12 in his first season, not great, but it's ridiculous to kick him out after one year. They seemed to play at a much more respectable level with Kiffin at the helm than they did last year, which was fairly impressive considering all of the turmoil that team is involved in. That franchise is truly turning into a train wreck, I hope he comes to his senses and gives Kiffin a fair shot at this.

Al Davis has reportedly drafted a letter of resignation for Lane Kiffin to sign. Kiffin has refused to do so.

That reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George tries to break up with a woman who he's dating three different times. Each time she tells him that she's not giving up on the relationship and they're not breaking up.

Al Davis is a freakin' train wreck.

Anybody with an urge to hire Dennis Green to turn their bad team around probably needs to reconsider. Yeah he had some great years in Minnesota when that team was loaded but it's all about what you're doing now and in his last four seasons as a head coach he's been 5-11, 6-10, 5-11, and 5-11.

Someone needs to tell Al Davis that expecting Dennis Green to turn around his 4-12 Raider team is a sure sign of senility. On the other hand if you're going to go coach somebody to 5-11 and then get shown the door when Grandpa Munster gets interested in bringing Art Shell back again Oakland is as good a place to do it as anywhere else. Hell, Al Davis probably thinks Art Shell and Dennis Green are the same guy.

You know what's scary is that his mom lived to be 103 so Al may still have 20 more years left in him (he's 79). And according to this article, he's not ready to step down until the Raiders when two more Super Bowls.

With the way he's been handling things, it doesn't look like those 2 will ever come. These next 20 years should be interesting watching a senile old man run a historic franchise into the ground.

Well Big Al may be spinning the steel balls berrings in his hands (Caine Mutiny
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Caine_Mutiny ) ,
but the move makes sense. He needs someone to make the best pick possible so his 70 million dollar QB will have the best chance to suceed. And Green has been to that rodeo befor.

Make sure the check clears befor you sign the paper Mr. Kiffin. I'm sure Shanahan could offer up some free advise on that one. Take his money and run.

.
Davis is so unhappy with Lane, a.k.a. Lance, Kiffin as his coach that he is willing to make Kiffin crawl pantsless over a mile of hot gravel just to get the rest of the money promised to him under a contract Davis signed one year ago. He won't fire him, but he sent him a letter of resignation that, if Kiffin doesn't sign, still strips him of most normal coaching prerogatives.

Out went Shanahan, in came Art Shell, and to this day, Shanahan insists Davis never paid him what remained on his contract. Hard to believe.

Actually, Davis blocked Kiffin from firing DC Rob Ryan and bringing his dad in. Kiffin had told Ryan he was fired after the last game of the season. Ryan already had another job lined up with the Jets, but Al wouldn't let him out of his contract. Kiffin's power play didn't sit well with Darth Raider.

If you've been able to watch any of the Senior Bowl practices this week, it's apparant on Kiffin's face that he doesn't want to be there. After Davis fired Mike Shanahan, Shanny had to take him to court to recover the rest of his contract. My advice to Lane: Get a good lawyer.

Nobody needs to tell Al anything. Screw the Raiders!! I hope he lives forever.

yeah, i remember reports that Ryan was fired and was even calling for the Texans to look his way. I like Ryan a lot but Monte is an upgrade over just about any coordinator in the league. yeah, that whole power struggle must not have been a good thing and its obvious from watching teh SB practices and today's game, Lane isn't very happy right about now. Isn't even wearing his Raiders gear.

All we need now is a SNL parody of Al Davis with Christopher Walken playing the role of Al.

LOL.

Crazy old man...:pirate:
