Like what I saw out of Ben Moffit at the level he played at. 240 pound guy who can run....very interesting. Not a position of critacal need for the Texans. Although it'd be nice to find a Sam who could turn and run with RB's and TEs.

Got a Feeling he will be targeted by new england in the second day. Ezra Butler will go to a 3-4 team also.

Thought Tommy Blake looked horrific sturaday night. He's either twenty pounds too heavy or twenty pounds too light. The guy has to be hurt to move the way he moved at the Shriner's game. I dunno. He's a shell to what he was two years ago.
 
I had no clue Forsett was a Senior. I didn't get to see him a lot but the few times I have been impressed. I have gotten to See Dantrell Savage play and He'd be a good value later in the draft.

I think we get lost in the 40 times and the perenial guy who has game breaking speed to those guys who have good speed, vision and all around game. Looks like a great year to address a few spots we're really lacking at in LT and a solid RB.
 
NFLNet had some coverage of todays limited practice, but they are supposed to offer more extensive the rest of the week.
Anyway, in the Texans quest for an OLT we got to see some one-on-ones
today between OLineman & DLineman and got a fast look-see at Cosder Cherilus from Boston U. He was impressive: mean dude who moved well & pancaked his opponent on one play and seemed to enjoy it. Excellent size at 6'6.5" with 35 plus arm length. The NFLNet guys seemed to think he might be more of a RT prospect where he played 2 years. But he did play LT this past year.
Looking forward to seeing Baker from USC & Williams from Vandy later this week.

they represented well. lets see most impressive was Sedrick Ellis, interior bull rushing specialist in the Warren Sapp mold. Keith Rivers looked very athletic. did not get to see Baker in one on ones but he was dressed & there. Fred Davis was with the receivers but didnt see him in action either. Booty was very accurate in the receiver drills. really impressed with cb Terrell Thomas big, long arms, fluid my be a first rd. surprise pick.

Glad to see Forsett in the Senior Bowl, I seen him in one game this year and was impressed. Look forward to seeing when and who drafts him.

with a good week of practice Gosder Cherilus will make himself some money. looked the part of a big nasty. has arm length needed to play OT along with attitude. valued highly because of versatility, has played both RT & LT with size & strength to play guard inside.

That's what I was reading as well. Everyone was amazed at his size, arm length, and hand size. I've always read he's projected at RT in the nfl. played rt untill this last season when he switched to LT...didn't have the best year though- maybe its just new to him...or maybe he's just not a LT. He's definitely got the size I would think, and runs a 5.08-5.14 40-yard dash. I'm typically one to throw an OL's 40 right out the window b/c it's really not that great of a measure imo..at least we know he's fast.

I will really want to see/read/hear how he does playing left tackle and how his feet are, esp. in the other cone drills they run that will really measure his movement side to side. will he be able to get to the 2nd level and block as well? If Gibbs can convert TE's to play LT then I'd give him a shot at Cherilous if he thinks he could be our answer.

Incase you have not read this.

Then Blake left the TCU team in fall camp, and he left again four games into the season, both times taking medical leaves of absence that had nothing to do with injuries, substance abuse or performance enhancers.

Blake is under the care of doctors as he tries to regain the form that made him a 2007 preseason All-American. In a Sporting News exclusive, Blake spoke Wednesday night about his state of mind, his struggles to perform well on the field and the skepticism he has heard about his desire to play football.

Reading the article and guessing (that is dangerous), I would say Tommy Blake had/has clinical depression, or a bipolar disorder. The weight gain, the attitude all point to side effects of the drugs used to treat these conditions.

I hope he gets what ever is effecting him under control, and is able to get his life back. Football can wait for, he needs to get healthy. Also not sure to many NFL teams can handle him with the sensitivity that TCU has. They have protected him. In the pros the media can be quite tough in some places.

Today, Tommy Blake is a risk of not being able to play. A team with depth, might want to take a risk. Us we may need to take a prospect with less risk.

One of the trouble we will have with Gibbs and his OL, is that no one else will be talking about the guys he takes. So the more that Kiper and Mike Mayock like a guy for conventional wisdom at the OL position, the less likely he is to be a Gibbs guy.

Now I am not saying who Gibbs is looking at, I have no clue, but I will say it will most likely shock us, and confuse us. I remember being confused by Kubiak taking Spencer before Winston and saying he was their LT. He did not meet any of the Kubiak "criteria", so at that point I decided to just let them decide on the who's, and I would just be a fan and cheer.

True. But he's looking at a lot of relatively small, but quick OLineman that most of the other teams aren't interested in who are still available in the second day of the Draft. A big advantage in the price of OLinemen talent when using ZB.
Got a look at Sam Baker in this mornings workout and he wasn't as impressive
as Cherolus was yesterday. The NFLNet guy Mayock questions whether he's suited to play OT in the NFL and thinks he may have to move inside.

Baker has now moved down, IMO to the 2nd rd. he's proven to have LT skills but in the NFL its gonna have to be a zone blocking system, like Gibbs uses. very scarey stuff indeed, if the Texans traded down with Baker still on the board.
 
I'm interested in seeing how Forte does this afternoon. From what I've heard, he has been impressing people so far.

Cherilus has looked good the last couple of days, but he has some problem with the speedy guys.

Joe Flacco & D. Savage also look good

looks to me like if he engages the speed guys sooner with those long arms & big hands he'll learn to control the edge or inside rip. will improve just as much as his coaching gets better. he is a tremendous prospect, remember alot of people thought similar of Marcus McNeill (Chargers LT). Cherilus has longer reach, bigger hands & displays a nasty attitude.

35 inch arms, compared to 32.5, that is a big difference. I remember a clip with Boselli from years ago, do not remember the defender, but it was a practice. Boselli put his hand on the guys helment and controlled everything the defender tried to do. The guy finally started swinging and Boselli is laughing because the guy is out of reach.

Arm length makes a difference, well it helps.
 
CB Leodis McKelvin is very very good he is a much better player than Aqib Talib. If he fell to us I wouldn't mind taking him at 18 but if we have johnathon stewart or rashard mendenhall sitting there I think they might have higher value at that spot than Leodis.

Nice take, well done. Agreed he'll move up the board with his preformance today. The gamble is can you teach the guy to make a play on the ball when he gets there. He knows what to do...he has the speed to get there and jump the route....he can't catch a cold. You can coach that though. Give me his skill set and I will figure the rest out.
 
Senior Bowl starts in about one hour (3:00pm) any takers on who will shine the brightest?


just ramblings-

it will be interesting to see the 2nd tier RB's battle. someone who impressed me in workouts is Tashard Choice, Georgia Tech 5-10.5 210 looks bigger, plays with power. then the WR's Hawkins & Jordy Nelson have been impressive 3rd rd. prospects. Andre Caldwell a solid 2nd & gotta love Appalachian State wide receiver Dexter Jackson this years version of Jacoby Jones.

I know this is not at the top of anyones wish list but could you imagine lining up Sedric Ellis next to Amobi Okoye?

really impressed with Gosder Cherilus I beleive he will play LT for somebody on Sundays. not in love with any of the centers. will pay close attention to Cousins, UTEP like his strength & wish we could also add Roy Scheuning, OG OSU perfect zbs guard for Gibbs.

last note see if any LB shines. Dizon seemed solid, alot of people like Ali Highsmith & Xavier Adibi has a ton of potential off the edge.

The North squad looks pretty deep, but I think the south can pull this one off.

This should be a really good game to see some corners and offensive lineman.
 
Brennan really doesnt look very good at all. He weighed in at 185 too. That's going to have to change in order for him to play in the NFL.
 
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is blowing up. rangy, showcased excellent hands plucking the INT @ peak elevation in space. good recovery skills with break on the ball & locked up big WR with square pads driving him back into the ground one on one. his stock is ascending to early 2nd late 1st. (trade back anyone?)

Oh yeah Sedric Ellis with a sack/safety gonna be a top 10 pick for sure. :specnatz:

Cromartie was outstanding before leaving hurt, still voted defensive mvp.

Matt Forte emerged as a player to watch in the 3rd rd. very skilled looking inside runner, good footwork in the hole & finishing runs. voted offensive mvp.

I'll be surprised if he is drafted at all. He has no arm strength at all. Notice the motion...VY II. Credit to VYs body strength for sure. I'm just wondering how much accuracy and zip they lose with that motion?
 
great, great game. simply amazing stuff added to the drama was Kiffens decision not to kick a FG to sew the game up, plus all the rumors he is on his way out in Oakland. very dramatic when the North failed to convert on an outstanding 4th & 1 deep South territory defensive gem by Kendall Langford, Hamption the South drove almost the entire length of the field & on 4th down with 4 seconds left did a reverse to Caldwell who was hit right on the goal line but extended the ball far enough to score the tieing touchdown. the winning fg was close by Brandon Coutu, Georgia.

the defense was good on both sides of the ball, very well played. QB play was inconsistant among the young guns, but the South had a clear advantage in the running game that was the difference. Matt Forte looked really good between the tackles & looks like a good fit for the Texans, maybe if he is still around in the 3rd? Tashard Choice is more athletic & a beast in space but he does not run north & south, prefering to go outside edge. Hester is a sweet player too, that could be like the Patriots Faulk, can do almost anything asked. Peyton Hillis, Arkansas (yes another razorback) is a fine looking FB & short yardage specialist.

Agreed. For a "raw guy" DRC made prety good accounting of himslef. Made a pile of money this week.

Agreed on forte, The LSU guy also...they got "skills". More than just your averge full backs.
 
Deion is high on the guy and he was really high on Warren Cromartie last year pre-draft as was Jimmy Johnson. That pick worked out pretty well for the Chargers....

My thoughts on the Senior Bowl...
No arm strength outside of Henne at QB...yawners at QB..Brennan dropped a few rounds at least
No RBs wowed me
Sedric Ellis dominated even through some double teams..I knew this guy was going to skyrocket ala Okoye's stock last year
Dan Connor looked good..possibly great. Rivers looked good too. I would love to have either of those guys but it aint happening.
Cromartie looked legit against top competition
 
you bring up a great point about the Lb's. there are alot of good ones available (Please Smith go out & get the Texans a 2nd). I really like Jordon Dizon, Colorado I'll bet the Patriots go corner or O-line in the 1st & earmark this guy in the 2nd. intelligence & looks like a young Tedy Bruschij just a blue collar football player with great instincts. Woodyard looked like he could handle the edge or weakside. Highsmith is a hitter, very intense player.

the reason i wasn't paying attention just so happens to be the fact that i made a monstrous beer haul today. mostly Bells (Expedition and Hopslam). drinking an Expedition right now in fact.

Forte made himself a lot of money this week. I'd love to see us take him in the 3rd, but I'm not sure he will be available when we pick.
 
just a note to add from Scott Wright's blog (NFL COUNTDOWN) that he confirmed after the game, "Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is indeed related to Antonio Cromartie. Apparently they are cousins. Those are some good bloodlines!"

liked his footwork inside, decisiveness/toughness through the hole & finish end of runs. good North-South runner who fits ZBS system. Gibbs will certainly have a say about this since the running game will be one of his primary focus.
