I know what most of you are going to say, but would you really pass up the chance to upgrade LT with a prototypical LT, who is commonly compaired to Walter Jones coming out of FSU?

I think Wand did a decent job last year. He was beaten more than I would have liked, but overall did a ok job. I would give him a C+.

If players like DJ, Spears, Davis, and Jones are off the board, I dont see a single reason not to take Barron if he is available.

He could turn out to be the Orlando Pace, or Walter Jones, that any team would kill to have.

Barron is a good player but IMHO Wand has the tools to develop into a franchise LT. Unfortunatly it may take time. If a short term solution were availible that would be best. I really doubt that Barron as a rookie would help much. These guys some times take 2-3 years to develop even if they were in top programs . Wand was in d-AA. The team will most likely give him another year.

There is a reason Barron will in all likelihood be an option for the Texans this year and Gallery was no where near an option last year--Barron isn't an elite prospect he is just the best in this draft. Aside from not inconsequential injury concerns, putting Barron in for Wand is trading weaknesses. Wand is pretty good in run blocking and weaker on pass blocking. Barron is pretty good in pass blocking and weak on run blocking (caused by getting physically dominated by college DLmen). The only way a GM gets to be a draft genius for pulling projects from later rounds is if people give those projects times to meet their potential.

Wiegert and Wade were brought in primarily for their run blocking. Both are good but not great run blockers. Both are marginal pass blockers, although Wade is the better of the two at it.

I thought Wand was taken because of his quick feet, athleticism & potential to be an effective pass blocker and therefor our LT to go eventually against
the superior pass rushers without the help of a TE. If his forte was run blocking, why didn't they leave Chester @ LT (who was making some good progress there), and play Wand @ RT and not shoot the hunk of dough on FA Todd Wade last year ?

Wand was the second fastest tackle at 6ft 7in 320 lbs. at the combine . He may just need a couple of years to get stronger . Or hire Canseco as his trainer then he becomes Tony Mandarich :heh: . CC likes big Tackles remember Joe Jacoby with the Hogs . If Carr gets a pocket the Texan Tackles are so long you'd run a 220 to get around them

I think that he has a reconstructed shoulder, not sure which one

I would rather have a kid like Terry from Syracuse in the second round or Armstrong from Washington State and Pears from Colorado State in the third or fourth round

But maybe part of our identity as a team will be to invest great amounts of resources in broken "franchise" tackles?

bump...believe you guys covered it all. Believe were headed for a six pack of patience. I think we're with you in spirt Rock. I still wake up in the middle of the night over the Green Bay game. If they take him, if Tennesse passes on him, now you have two left tackles you're grooming. Plus Pitts. We'd be getting kinda loaded there considering a team usually kepps what 8 or nine offensive lineman ? Who do you gonna cut in August under your scenario ? Who's your starting five ? Awefull high insurance for a Wand bust. JMHO. There will be some studly OLT's in next years draft. If we do a good job in this years draft they'll be in a position roster wise to sale out and go for one. Then again the line just might Jell this year. I don't know but I believe this is the brain trust's logic. Give the line one more year to Jell. We'll see in April. I hope Carr survives the experiment. JMHO.

I agree with threetoedpete on waiting until next year since thats when D'Brickashaw Fergeson is coming out and he is suposed to be the best LT to come down the lines in a while.

What makes you think we will get a prospect like D'Brick? If we play like we should play next year, we will be at the bottom of the rounds.

Well, it depends on how much Casserly wants him and how much we have to offer a team to get in position to get him.
