Awtysst Presents Mocked up in Denver:Texans picks Special Edition

Yeah,
I think the air in Denver is getting to me becuase I deicided to put out my first Mocked up Texans scenario scale.

I have Hou and Seattle making a trade. Texans trade: #18(900) to Seattle for #25 and #57(1050). Seattle pays a small premium for moving up.

Seattle: 18(Seattle): Rashard Mendenhall or Jonathan Stewart. They get their choice of RB that they desperately need.

Houston
25(from Seattle):Take the RB that Seattle does not choose, Ali HighSmith OLB(LSU), Antoine Cason CB. I'd go Cason or HighSmith here.

57(from Seattle): If we did not take Highsmith, take Erin Henderson OLB(Maryland). Or if we didnt take Cason, how about Reggie Smith
CB(Oklahoma) or Aqib Talib CB(Kansas). I say CB if we went OLB in round 1 and OLB if we went CB in round 1.

79(Htown) Are you yelling and screaming at me that I have yet to take a RB. How about Steve Slaton? Not interested? How about Kevin Smith from Cen Fla? Happy now? Yeah i thought you might be.

114: Welcome to round 4. Are you about to throw something at your computer screen because I have not taken an OT yet? Take a deep breath and view my choices: Tony Hills OT(Texas) or Carl Nicks(Nebraska). But Awtysst, you might say, Hills is a RT and Nicks might be better off as a RT, how does that help us? Very easy young grasshopper, because I intend to move Eric Winston to his natural LT position and put either of these guys as the RT. Make more sense?

143: Round 5. You know what we really need? I think Vinny said it best when he said we need a two gap space eating DT. Ask and you shall receive. B.J. Raji DT(Boston College). He is 6'1 325-330 pounds of pure space eater. He is my sleeper pick. ANother possibility could be Jason Shirley DT(Fresno State). He isnt nearly as polished but it 6'5 330. Thats a lot of space.

I am just doing rounds 1-5 now.

Okay, rip it!

I like the trading down .

I think the strength of the draft is RB and OT .

I think we need a CB because Dunta is iffy and we stink in pass defense .

1st - Tracy Porter CB Indiana .

2nd - Anthony Collins LT Kansas .

3rd - Chris Johnson RB East Carolina

I'm not sold that OLB ( we do need one ) is a bigger priority than CB, LT ,or RB .

Yeah, my thinking is that we need to go BPA and look at what is available later on. I like CB 1 and then SLB 2. In my mind we can get a RB and OT later on, especially if we move Winston to LT. In my mind WAY to many screen passes were down on our SLB and look how many times that worked. If we had a solid OLB there, that would not happen.

You're right being that the strength is RB and OT ( getting players later on ) . I was thinking that we might get some guys ( OT and RB ) who had 1st round talent in the 2nd and 3rd .

I also believe that if we have a decent secondary our pass rush gets even better . That applies to OLB to I guess .

I think we're still adding pieces and we need quite a few , if an OLB is the best player when we pick ... pick him .

Its a tough decision, no doubt. My thinking is that a quality RT can be had a little lower and a studly OLB cannot.

The thing is this, we are going to make some moves in FA and some of those holes that we have are going to disappear. Whether we go CB, RB, DE, or OLB we will address something in FA that will affect our draft. As it stands, I tried to find a way to address our weaknesses. In fact, what might happen is that we find such value at our spot that we do not need to move down. As is, with so many holes I tried to come up with a scenario that made sense and filled lots of holes with quality players in a semi-realistic projection.

Looks like Raji is returning to BC.

LB Brian Toal and DT B.J. Raji — You don't often redshirt two outstanding defensive players as seniors and they will be back looking to punch their NFL tickets.
Shirley would surely fit the bill as a space eater. But, I have to wonder how his DUI last year will affect his position on the Texans draft board.

Not ripping your draft, but could you explain why Seattle would want to trade up in the 1st round? Other than being generous to a team without a 2nd round pick. This is a deep draft for RBs, I can't see them moving up to get one.

I was a huge lonzo Highsmith Fan. The guy doesn't injure the knee...he has shot at the HOF in that offense.

TBS... I like yours much better Earl. Twenty-six games and counting. When the walls come a'tumbling down enjoy it up there. Thought the Nebraska kid tonight gave a prety good preformance....might make great insurance in the sixth round. Runs a good forty in combine, my book says he'll start his ascent up the boards.

I would not call this a mock, more like the things I do, a wish list based on the pick before. In the draft room they use a card for each player because their board is static. Meaning they change the value of the players bases on the players they have picked already.

I like the idea of the trade down, and you are only dropping a handful of spots. The quality is still there at the pick. So nice concept.

Most of your picks are most likely going a little earlier than you have them down, Talib for example is still being mocked in the 1st on most mocks, wait until he runs and let's see if he is still 1st round material, but I do not see him available at 57, at least not right now. There are a couple guys like that in your mock.

Cason at 25 would be an OK pick, he can play CB or FS. Otah would be a better pick IMO here.

Highsmith is not my favorite LB, plus he projects more to the WILL position and we are needing a SAM more. Another guy who I respect has pointed out that most SAM come off the field on 3rd and long, thus creating a 2 down player. He asks the question and I agree, do you want to spend a 1st round pick on a 2 down player? That is why the SAM has dropped in pay and in draft status. A SAM that can play 3 downs is a stud.

Your 2nd pick of Henderson is a great one I am seeing him ranked #51 on a draft sight so this pick could happen. I always say someone will reach for a player and someone will drop. DBs to look at at #57 (I think both of yours are gone by then) Tracy Porter, Patrick Lee, Dom Rodgers-Cromartie, or Justin King at CB , or DaJuan Morgan or Thomas DeCoud at Safety.

I would go with Henderson, Philip Wheeler or Dom Rodgers-Cromartie at #57.

#25 - OT Otah
#57 - CB Rodgers-Cromartie
#79 - LB Tavares Gooden
#114 - RB Tashard Choice
#143 - TE Brad Cottam 6-8 270 blocking TE who can catch also, 4.7 forty. Time for Putzier to move on.
6th round DE Kenny Iwebema
7th round OT RT Jeremy Zuttah (possible OG, has not given up a sack in 2 years, from a ZBS offense) OC Ryan Wendell/Adam Spieker or LB Thomas Williams or RB Marcus Thomas

A question we all need to look at, what if Stewart and Mendenhall are both gone at #18? I have a mock at thehuddlereport.com , where that is happening, sorry it is on the pay side, so I cannot post it. In the mock Stewart goes 10th and Mendenhall 14th. Dallas takes Felix Jones at #22, 4th RB taken. Does Seattle still jump to 18 for him?

You picked two OLT canidates and one swing guy, outstanding picks in my book.

I think under the huddles scenario Dallas will BPA, and not select a RB with their first round picks.

I have been seeing more mocks with the Mendenhall and Stewart both going before our pick. Seattle is considered to be looking for a 20+ carry guy to replace Alexander either this year or next. If all is to be believed also the Cowboys are looking for a RB in the 1st to replace Jones. So the idea of the Seahawks jumping the Cowboys to get at Stewart or Mendenhall is a possibility.

Now the RBs are starting to shake out a little. McFaddin top 10, Mendenhall and Stewart 10-20, Felix Jones 20-30. That is the 1st round RB in this draft. Chris Johnson, Jamaal Charles and Chris Slaton are all similar in they do not like the middle of the field and they do not as yet know how to block, that is usually a reason to downgrade in the NFL, call it a lesson relearned after the season Reggie Bush had.

You remember I like Cottam as a OLT project. I do, but I say try him as a blocking TE who can be a huge target in the redzone, and if that does not work out, add some weight to him, and see if he can be a OLT.

In regard to the huddle draft, I think a lot of mocks are thinking Jerry will either trade up for McFaddin or he will take Felix Jones. He has done stuff like this in the past so who knows.

I see Otah as a OLT, Cromartie is good enough to push Bennett to the bench if Dunta comes back like his old self, otherwise great insurance. I have Gooden as a SAM prospect. Choice is the insurance for Green and Taylor, Green, Taylor, Dayne and Choice is pretty strong. As mention above Cottom is Bruener replacement in a year or two, and he takes Putzier roster spot. Iwebema LDE pass rush guy, needs to add weight to be an everydown guy. I see Zuttah as a OG type, could be a swing tackle.

That doesn't make sense, either. The Cowboys have a Pro Bowl RB in Barber. With the issues the Cowboys have in the secondary and offensive line, I doubt RB will be addressed before the 2nd or 3rd round, at the earliest.

If the Seahawks really covet a top RB, they'll want to jump ahead of the Texans. Few teams have more of a glaring need at RB than Houston.

Well this is what I hope we can do with FA and the Draft.

First in FA we pick up Terrell Suggs DE.
Second in FA we pick up Jordan Gross OT or Max Starks OT

All three are UFA

In the Draft:

#18. We trade with Dallas for the #29 and #69 the Cowboys can take whoever doesnt really matter.

#29. We take Jonathan Stewart, Rashard Mendenhall best RB still there.

#69. We take Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tenn. St.

#93 We take Jamie Silva S Boston College. I know he is not the biggest, fastest but is just a real BALLHAWK and is all over the place. We need someone like that in our secondary.

nice dream but not gonna happen the Texans could take a shot at one of those big dollar FA but not both & if they're going to spend in FA its gotta be a CB.

Stewart/Mendenhall are gone by the 18th pick.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie could even sneak into the 1st rd.

Like LSU S Craig Steltz better has good instincts & is a playmaker.

And most teams are now using 2 RBs. See the current Cowboys. They may not want to overwork Barber for all we know. He is a Pro Bowler as a part time runner, not as a 20-25 carry guy. But your right he is a stud.

I have also seen the Cowboys looking WR, a young one. Glenn and Owens are not young and the learning curve for WR is long. Remember the boys have two 1st.

Dallas has two OL going to the Pro Bowl, what is the problem (admittedly I do not watch them play, hate them)? OC and OG are not going to be pick at #22very often. And I currently do not see any going at #28.

Dallas does has a luxury, they have solid starters every where, and they can give a player time to mature. (Yes I know they need DBs).

I do not understand why Seattle would give us a selection to move to 18 if either Stewart or Mendenhall will be there at 25.
