What in the world is Rich Rodriguez doing?

"West Virginia officials are wondering if assistant coaches aren’t all that Rich Rodriguez took with him to Michigan. They believe he may also have destroyed all or most of the paperwork files relating to every player on the current Mountaineer roster and virtually all of the activities conducted by the program over the past seven years."

That's crazy. What the hell is wrong with the guy? And destroying all those files makes it seem like he was doing illegal stuff with that program. I wonder if Michigan is concerned at all?

Let's wait until it's proven first.

Ya'll dont think there is any possibility that WVU may only be trying to use this as leverage.

It would be his word against theirs, and his isnt exactly worth a lot right now.

Found this on a message board. Sums up the situation pretty good, IMO.

"or someone at WVU is trying to make him look bad.

seriously, think about this for a minute.

the school has NO ELECTRONIC COPIES of key player information? of SCHOLARSHIP information? of NCAA COMPLIANCE information?

as Rich's lawyer said: "But I sure hope the originals of such information are in the compliance office or the academic programs at West Virginia. If not, then they have serious institutional control issues."

what's truly more likely?

that RichRod had all available scholarship/money files, all NCAA compliance information and personal contact information for all players in his own office, without any other copies anywhere? that the Athletic DIrector and Compliance Office had 0 oversight over the football program?

or that RichRod had personal copies of this information, and that he shredded his own personal copies for privacy reasons (his and the players). that as part of clearing out his office, he shredded personal notes in addition to any copies of player data that he had. and that some middling in the Athletic Department is trying to make much ado about nothing (note that no official or legal comment was made, according to the article)."

Good post Bah.

It does look a little suspicious, but if he had his own personal files of the players, "working files" if you will, then he did the right thing in shredding them- if HE is the one that did. There's no use in him taking them to Michigan or keeping them.

The only thing is if he could have left them for the other coach to use. If other coaches use the same system as him? I don't really know what coaches do with all that. Especially if there's private info that players told him or others told him about players to keep an eye on (personal issues), then he shouldn't leave that for any of the athletic dept or new coach to go through.

Whenever I left or got let go from a job, they walked me out of the building. I always got rid of everything related to that company other than business cards. My laptop was seized and I had all major documents/files etc. taken from me.

This is much ado about nothing. Doesn't deserve to be news.

Michigan players refusing to contact Rich other than texting him (Manningham, Arrington) + WV having to sue to get Rich's payout money + this story just make me wonder about the guy

Well Manningham has a bad attitude so good riddance really & Arrington was out of eligibilty. I believe he had circumstances to where he could petition for another year (and most likely get it) but he did not want to.

That news is from my brother, who I trust more about Michigan info than ESPN or any other news outlet.

And the WVU vs. Rodriguez isnt a big deal. Of course they are suing him for the payout money, because they want it. And he thinks he is right, so he is fighting it. Not a big deal, IMO.

Like I said in an earlier post, this new situation looks like nothing more than WVU trying to set Rodriguez up.

Plus you are an OSU guy so that doesn't hurt too huh? :pirate:

Results on the field are all that matters and Rodriguez has put offensive juggernauts on the field at Tulane, Clemson, and West Virginia. I think he is going to do fine at Michigan.
