He would look darn good in a Texans uniform....but not near as good as a Left Tackle would.

Saw the J Stew reel.
And I searched and viewed the Mendenhall reel (vs. Wisconsin).
My money is on Mendenhall, if I had to pick between the two.
Dude looks pretty good. Although the majority of plays vs. Wisconsin were from the Shotgun, with two RBs, and although we don't run the shotgun much, I still saw Mendenhall running right up the middle a lot. So it's not like he's just a Bush-type player who gets around the edge. Mendenhall seems to knife his way right through the gut of the defensive line a lot.

That highlight reel was from 2005, remember, in his SOPHOMORE YEAR. Look at the improvements he made even BEYOND that in his next two seasons.

That's not correct. Stewart did not lose a fumble this season (he did fumble in the Fresno State game). But, he has lost fumbles in previous seasons.

Jonathan Stewart is a different back than any other. most teams like a combination of power back between the tackles in tough short yardage situations & a speed back that can get outside the tackle box 2nd level as home run threat. Jonathan is really a true power back, downhill, straight ahead runner with out alot of shake & bake yet still a home run threat, great speed, vision, everytime he touches the ball. plus he's a consumate team player, smart, humble, improved blocker & plucks the ball as receiver. Jonathan Stewart is like two RB's in one. This is what should increase his value to any NFL team looking for a feature back & return on investment.

I'm having a hard time in deciding who I like better between Mendenhall and Stewart. They seem to be very comparable to each other; they both are power runners with breakaway speed, both 20 years old, both 5'11 225lbs-ish, and both have simliar production (1500+ yards at 6.4 and 6.2 yards per carry.)

I stand corrected. ESPN's stat page is apparently wrong then.
Espn doesn't have a fumble credited to any college player. I don't think the NCAA actually tracks fumbles, except on a team basis. You'd basically have to go through all the play-by-play transcripts to determine the fumbles.

We don't have to worry about it. Rick Smith will do the evaluation & recommendation to Kubiak.
Need wise they'll be weighted in this order, IMO CB, OT, RB. bpa @ those positions.
CB- the only cover corner, thats draft eligble worth around the 18th pick is Antoine Cason, Arizona. he is a little bigger than d-rob & above average in run support with very good cover skills. will depend on the rest of the class of underclassman to declare.
OT- Sam Baker would be a nice fit & longterm solution @ LT. personel workouts more than anything at this point will solidify his position on the Texans draft board. the next bpa @ tackle is Jeff Otah & Gosder Cherilus so the Texans will have options for selecting a LT @ #18 depending how they rate them.
RB- Jonathan Stewart would be the bpa in this scenero if he where still on the board. he should be a top 15 pick but it would be hard to pass on a franchise back if he falls in your lap & fills #3 priority need.

I remember hearing about a QB once whose dad made a "highlight" reel that was just his incompletions.
Basically showing that many of his incompletions were good throws but his receivers dropped the balls.
I don't remember who I heard that about. I think the father sent the tape to college recruiters.

I know what you mean. no problem. paypal & anthonyE both make good points too. But one thing you have to understand is Jonathan is very low key, no showboating, doesn't want to call any attention to himself & shys away from the media. not that he's afraid of the media its just he doesnt want to accept credit without his teammates. In alot of ways Jonathan Stewart (0597 235) personality is similar to Andre Johnson, very much the consumate team player, softspoken & doesn't worry about his own press clippings, in this case video highlights created by others even though he's been different & elite (ranked the #1 RB coming out of High School) since strapping on cleats.
Regarding Mendenhall (0511 210) is impressive. his pro comp reminds me of Willis McGahee while I can't remember a comp to Jonathan Stewart but think he can be a bigger version of Maurice Jones Drew.

Outside of Long, there are no stud LTs in this draft. I am a USC fan, but Baker is not the answer. He's too injury prone, and can't be relied to hold down the left side.
I'd take Felix Jones over Stewart, or a trade down to somehow get Talib/Conner/Groves in the 1st, and Slaton in the 2nd.

I think a big thing to watch for in a RB going into the pro's that the general public completely neglects is 'What can/can't he do when he doesn't have the ball'? The pro's really emphasize a complete runningback. Too many good college backs drop to later rounds and people can't understand why...

the MOST important aspect for a runningback is his ability to run the ball between the tackles, period. if a back drops because he's not a perfect pass-blocker, it's because there's a few stingy coaches who want a perfect prospect, or don't feel they can coach the player properly. assuming the player isn't just completely abysmal in the passing game, and isn't a complete buffoon, there's not much reason to dock a player for his limited quality performance with pass protection and all of that. many college offenses don't even worry about teaching their backs how to properly deal with the pass-rush.
