Kubiak doubted Davis’ ability as a kick returner

Well, all I know is, signing Davis should be the 1st off-season move they make. End of story.

My theory is that these are the two closest returns in "football time" in NFL history. They occurred within a minute of each other from a game clock standpoint. Can any stat types confirm?

Just wondering something: If we signed him, and he didn't return a single kick for a TD next year, and let's say he fumbled a few times while returning kicks, would he be worth what he wants from us this offseason?

I am not sure that the emotional "high" of two kickoff TDs, a temporary salve upon the wound of what's basically a very sub-par NFL team, is worth the long-term commitment of giving AD "the bank."

I'm just sayin'

He's been a SOLID WR all year. Stepped up big time when AJ was down.

I'm not just on some emotional high. In fact, I'm very unemotional at the moment thanks to an awesome tailgating finale.

When he was put into the returner's role when Mathis went down, he didn't look comfortable at all. He's gradually gotten better and appears to be very comfortable.

Andre Davis brought a lot of value to this team this year. I liked what he's done and I would like to have him around for a few years.

Even without the returns yesterday, I still say re-sign him. I think he's a great compliment to AJ and Walter.

Preach It Brother Preach It. We would be fools to let him go.

I think you could count the number of drops he had as WR on one hand from preseason to the end of the season. He was very solid and I would love him to stay a Texan. He has a great attitude to boot and is a good humble team player. I'm sold on his resigning.

Ya. I just don't understand the "we can't afford to keep him" mentality. Actually, the reverse is true. We can't afford to let him go. The man can ball. Good football teams (ones that make the playoffs) don't let good football players walk. They resign them.

Just sayin'.

Yeah, and unless you want him wearing a Titans uniform next year you sew him up. I really don't believe he will try to break the bank. IIRC earlier in the year he commented on how much he liked this team and appreciated us giving him another shot. Unless that was all BS I think he gets his deserved raise without hurting the team as to do what they have to do to make us a better team.

I was sold on keeping AD before he even started returning kickoffs. He needs to stay. No way I would let him or JJ go. There's too much potential there.

I sure am happy some of you fans aren't the GM. The "We cant afford a proven good player" mentality is the reason we JUST got to 8-8!!!

Some of you want to break the bank on players in free agency that were good for other teams, or even for guys like Michael Turner who were good in a backup role for other teams. One mention of resigning a key player on offense/special teams and all of a sudden "NO WE CANT AFFORD THIS GUY!!!". Any time you get a guy that is relatively young and productive in your system you HAVE to resign him. We're 35 million under the cap and we're not gonna set any FA records by resigning him. Give him his money and we get:

1) A proven deep threat/capable # 2 WR in OUR system

2) A proven gamebreaking KR who can run back kicks for tds in OUR system

3) A proven special teams gunner capable of getting downfield and downing the ball deep in the opponents territory in OUR system

#3 is what really surprised me about him. He seems to always be around the ball on special teams plays.

I'm sure they will sign him and in doing so they secure three positions in one (Kick off return, WR, and gunner).

Just repp'd ya. Excellent points about not wanting to resign a good player but break the bank in FA.

Most of the time, I'm happy no one from the Texans staff reads this message board. There are a few times when I wish they would.

This is one of those times, good post. :fans:

Kubiak loves guys who can handle multiple task, and AD does these well. Kubiak and Smith will make sure he stays in a Texans uniform, and I think AD wants to be here..... so it will get worked out.
