Jared Allen

RagingBull

Hall of Shame
Is there any chance that we could sign him as an UFA? I can just imagine the pressure that our line would be able to create with Williams, Allen, and Okoye.

I've been thinking about this for a few weeks.

I think the Cheifs will franchise him, but if there was a chance, I say we def. go after him. We'd easily have one of the top lines in the league and could pressure from any angle.

just can't see the cap space used on the D-Line.

look for the Texans to draft another interior lineman like Chris Canty who was a 4th round selection in 05 while shopping TJ/Weaver for corner help or picks.

Can't imagine getting much for Weaver, TJ might have a market on teams not so concerned with being squeaky clean, he would be a monster next to that other thug Haynesworth for the Titans.

DE Anthony Weaver's contract is for five years and $26.5 million, including a $12 million signing bonus.

If this is correct, Then the cap hit for releasing Weaver is ... About $7.5 Mil considering most signing bonuses are spread out over the length of the contract.

Looks like the info I found is pretty damn close.

I doubt he was enabled to exercise the bonus aspect of the contract, but thats still a cool 2.5 mil for 07 w/base in 08 3.5 mil. to be fair if any trade was consumated the Texans would wind up eating a sizeable portion of his contract, maybe most if not all the base. good guy, questionable contract.

I agree but going on the simple aspect of the contract of 26.5 with a signing bonus of 12 ...........

The cap hit just for the singing bonus would be about $6.88712 mil but the money still owed on the contract would be about $6.11288 mil but the cap hit if kept on the roster would be roughly about $6.2 mil so the logistics cap hit $0.68712 would not be the big of a deal to take for the Texans to release him, where as if he could be traded the new team would not take the hit for the bonus money just in what ever compensation the texans could extract.
