This is all an early prediction. I expect major competition at the 4th WR spot between Thomas and Armstrong. alot more competition at CB. the KR/PR competition should be another . i could see changes from the above roster also at the OL positions as well as LB positions.

Since I know of the Practice Squad rules, i'd have to change that a little too.

Nope Texan279, I could see Symmons beating out Ragone for the third spot. But just some notes, I think Texans will have more than just 4 WRs. Where is Raheem Orr?

what happened to J.J. Mosses is he still with the Texans and if he is you think he will still return kick offs and punt returns? i really did like him as our return man.

Check out this for a discussion about JJ.

We are probably going to carry a 5th WR...that would be Armstrong I'm guessing. I don't know how well Sloan Thomas is doing...I haven't heard much in reference to him in the mini-camp articles.

That's the only major issue I saw with your initial guess. I question Miller being the #3 TE...I might be a bit too much of a Billy fan, but I think he is at least the #2 guy going in.

I do agree that we will see some flux in the LB corps...that should be interesting to watch over the course of the summer.

RB DOM DAVIS.....TONY HOLLINGS
FB MORAN NORRIS..CHARLES STACKHOUSE.. (JARRAD BAXTER RB/FB  )
QB D CARR.. D RAGONE.. B J SYMONS (BANKS GETS THE BOOT  )
OL WAND, PITTS, MCKINNEY, WEIGART, WADE
BU BROWN, WEARY, WASHINGTON
TE BRUENER,MILLER,JOPPRU
WR DRE, BRADFORD, GAFFNEY, ARMSTRONG, THOMAS
24 PLAYERS ON OFFENSE

DL WALKER, PAYNE, SMITH
BU DELOACH, IOANE, MARTIN, DAVIS
LB BABIN, FOREMAN, SHARPER, WONG
BU DUNN, POLK, S ORR, A PEEK
S COLEMAN, BROWN, MCCREE, WALKER (EARL TO PUP )
CB GLENN, ROBINSON, WRIGHT, VAUGHN, SIMMONS, FAGGINS
25 PLAYERS

ST BROWN, STANLEY, DUFF, BELL (WASHINGTON = LS  )
4 PLAYERS = 53 MAN ROSTER

PS C ANDERSON, R ORR, FREEMAN, SLECHTA, LEKKERKERKER, STARLING, MURPHY, LORD
8 PLAYERS

i thought the deal was you can't be on the p squad if you have nfl experience?

which armstrong and holloway have
Section 4. Eligibility:

(a) The practice squad shall consist of the following players, provided that they have not served more than one previous season on a Practice Squad: (i) players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL experience; and (ii) free agent players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during their only Accrued Season(s). No player may be a practice squad player for more than two seasons.
Holloway and Armstrong should not be practice squad eligible.

By the way:

Section 2. Signing With Other Clubs: Any player under contract to a Club as a practice squad player shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club at any time during the League Year, to serve as a player on any Club’s Active or Inactive List, and any Club is completely free to negotiate and sign such a Player Contract with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period, except that such player shall not be permitted to sign a Player Contract with another Club to serve as a practice squad player while under contract as a practice squad player.
In other words it is easy to lose people put on the practice squad.

I doubt VERY much that Banks would be let go to have Rags and Symons as the backups. After this season, well that's another matter. Symons like to go to developmental or possibly NFLE IMO.

I've wondered that to. I don't know whats going to happen to Sloan. I for one would love to see him make the squad as the 4th or 5th WR because he is a Houston native, a graduate of Klein High School, and I even think his mother works at my sister's school.

I've heard the term 'major school sleeper' used to describe him, and this seems appropriate especially considering Texas' run happy offense, Roy Williams and the fact that Sloan actually ran a 4.4 40 at Texas' Pro Day.

Production nonwithstanding, and on paper, Sloan seems to be in the same mold of all the other top WR's drafted the past couple of years.

So here's to hoping that he will be catching passes in Steel Blue this fall!

I don't think Vontez will beat out JJ. JJ had decent return capabilities.
Its his job to lose.

Chris Palmer was talking up Sloan Thomas in a big way on sportsbeat last week. He said he was looking very impressive in camp.

Am I wrong to wonder if Symmons could push Ragone for that 3rd QB spot in the future?
Ragone is suppose to be our #2 QB or the future and Symons our 3rd

Ragone is on the roster until CC picks up his obligatory late round QB in the draft next year! :hmmm:

I was incredibly unimpressed by Ragone last year, even taking into account the situations that we saw him in. Assuming that Symons rehab goes well over the next few months I would love to see him in NFLE then step in to the #3 role on the squad next year.

Banks is a servicable back up (I pray that someone will tell him that it is OK to throw to a receiver that is less than 30yrds downfield!) that will be solid for another couple seasons.

from the first list i'd put duff, jamal powell, and one of the hb/rb's onto the practice squad and add jj moses, derrick armstrong, & terrence martin to the active roster.

I think Ragone will be fine, and from that list I don't think JJ Moses, Jamal Powell, Todd Washington, Brad Lekkerkerker, Sloan Thomas, DaShon Polk, Troy Evans, or Jonathon Wells make the final sqad, but some of the youngsters will make the practice squad. You also have too many linemen on that list.

I look for Simmons to be PUP'd or even IR'd to keep him off the practice squad, and thusly being picked up by another team. Banks will be back this year, with the eventuality of Ragone being #2 next year and Simmons being #3 next year. Lekerkerkerkerkerkerker got the biggest signing bonus of any undrafted FA in the entire leauge, so I think that they actually consider him as a good possibility to make the roster as a back up. It was Wand's ole' block that got Carr busted up last year, he aint exactly Anthony Munoz, he's too unproven to not have plenty of meat around to put in there to spell him. I hope JJ "25 yard dash" Moses didn't sign a long term lease anywhere, because we need a return man who has a little stamina and won't get absolutely punked by Craig Hentrich. With Armstrong, Duggans, Thomas, Anderson, Starling, and Jermaine Lewis all fighting for the #4 and possibly a #5 WR spot, I don't see us wasting roster space on an undersized returner with underwhelming speed. :twocents:

I dont see Wells on the team, but I do see Washington and Evans. Washington is a good back up that can play 3 spots and we know that offensive lineman depth is important. Unless they move some of the draft picks to ILB, like Raheem Orr, Evans has to make the team because we dont have anyone else and he is a great special teams player.

Any word on Roman Walker, is he going to be put on the PUP list?

Any word on the guys over in NFLE? I was at the NFLE website the other day and we have quite a few players that are in the top 10 of a lot of stat categories...Freeman, Taylor, Johnson, Anderson, and Lewis are a few... idonno:

Does anyone have any thoughts though about any of these guys staying with us and making a contribution to the team? I have no idea as I do not keep up with the NFLE...

With B J Symons injury I can't see the Texans making him their third QB this year. He's more likely to make the PS and get his chance next year.

J.J. Moses will be out in my opinion. He's very quick, but not fast and can't take one all the way. Your returner has to score at least sometime during the season. He was constantly caught from behind. Duff could get the job, or even Starling who has blazing speed.

Anyone in NFLe is a borderline NFL player. That is why they are there. The odds are that these guys will never amount to much in the NFL but low odds are better than no odds. With that said, these guys have potential or they would not have the teams invest in them overseas. They are all unproven players with NFL upside.

Vinny,

There has been players to come out of the NFLE and become great players. Examples: Warner, Delhomme (Sp?), Marcus Robinson, even L. Glover played in NFL Europe. So, the chances aren't exactly at "low", but more at 1/3.
