Matt will probably backup this week and play next

Anybody else read this and notice that neither Kubiak nor Schaub specifically say "what" the injury is, exactly? Might be a way of trying to play games with our next two opponents, trying to make them gameplan against both our QBs.

I personally think that he won't see the field in the next two games. If we have Boyd active, that might also indicate that it'll be Sage/Boyd.

Just thought it was funny that they completely avoided answering the question: 'What IS the injury?"

Here's the excerpt from Kubiak:

"It was exactly what we thought, and I think there’s a decision to make after the season whether or not we think they need to surgically repair the issue that he has or not, but it was exactly what we thought it was. But the idea of him having a chance to play here in the last two weeks, it’s a very good possibility. He did a little bit in practice today. We’ll wait and see.”

(on if there is a chance QB Matt Schaub plays again this season) “Yes, I think there’s a good chance. I’m hoping that, if anything, this week he’s ready to be (QB) Sage’s (Rosenfels) backup going into the game. He did take some practice reps today, but I’m hoping that he’s available this week, and we’ll see. But I’d like to see him play some more before the year is up.”

(on if QB Matt Schaub faces any risk of further injury) “Well, if there was a risk of something getting worse, we wouldn’t do that. So all indications are that this is an injury that’s not going to get any worse, and he’s not going to further risk himself by being on the field other than the fact that it’s part of the game. We wouldn’t do that to him.”

Here's the excerpt from Schaub:

(on the second opinion on his injured shoulder) “Well, it was exactly what I was told by doctors here. (It’s) peace of mind and knowing that, hey, we’re on the same page and what I was told it is what it is, and we’re proceeding in that direction and working on getting range of motion and strength back.”

(on what the injury is) “Well, we’ll see as time goes on whether I can get back out there, but it’s just an injury to the shoulder and we’ll just take it one step at a time and day by day.”

(on if whether or not to have surgery will be a difficult decision) “Anytime surgery’s an option, it’s a way to get it fully recovered and 100 percent strength back in it but after a period of time when you’re rehabbing it. But it’s a decision that will have to be made, and will be made upon the season’s completion.”

(on if he will play in the next two games) “I’d love to get back out there, be on the field with my guys and play in the games and compete. We’ll just make sure that when we do that, that I’ll be able to protect myself and not have to injure the shoulder any worse than it is. So we’ll just proceed in that direction and go out and get it as strong as I possibly can.” -- Wait a second, earlier Kubiak said the doctor said you are not going to be able to injure it any worse (The last Kubiak quote I mentioned in this post)...and you say, in the next quote of yours that doctors said you cannot injure it any worse...maybe it was just a brain fart and the reporter helped him correct his statement?

(on if doctors told him he cannot hurt his shoulder any worse) “Yes, they told me that nothing worse can happen. Obviously, if my arm gets ripped off, that could happen (laughs), but I mean, no further damage can happen to the area.”

I'd prefer they sit him out.

If we had any chance at the playoffs, I would consider playing him but Sage is doing a good job and there is no reason to endanger out future quarterback on meaningless games. Remember, Matt has two injuries to consider, the shoulder and concussion. I'm sure he feels fine on the concussion front, but the longer we can wait before we put him back in action, the better.

I'm tired of the Texans and their weird way of discussing injuries.
Be frank with us, stop giving us the run-around.

Its not unusual to be vague about injuries to keep the other teams guessing, but the Texans have made it an art form. Since they've been like this from day one, you'd have to think it comes from the very top.

Odd.

At least they're straight to the point about what color jersey the team is going to wear!

I say sit him and play Sage, especially with the momentum that our backup has right now.

Indeed.

I still think (and pray) that Matt can be "the guy" around here for a few years to come. So said, I hope that they won't risk screwing up his noggin or his shoulder by rushing him back.

I also think that we've got a real chance to post our best season EVAAARRRR even though we've still got to play the Jags and Colts again. If Sage has all the momentum and we can still go something like 8-8, just leave him in and try to get to .500.

For goodness sakes, I hope they don't let him play.

If he has a tough game against two of the best teams in the league, we'll have an entire offseason of folks calling for Sage to start next season.

:texflag:

Exactly. It makes no sense to play Matt since we are not going to the play offs anyway. Let Sage do his thing, because it only makes us stronger.

Either Sage is the best backup in the league and we keep him on the payroll, and this experience is nothing but good for him and us, or, Sage is so damn good he beats the Colts and the Jacks as we trade him for something completely outrageous.

Although, personally, I hope we keep Sage. I’m am a big Sage fan.

I think it is in the best interests of the team to let Rosenfels play out the last games. Let Schaub heal for next season and let's showcase Rosenfels. Hell, if he continues to play great ball he deserves a shot to start...unless the 'brain trust' just wants to justify their decision to bring in Schaub and consider him the starter no matter what.

it would seem there is some uncertainty surrounding Matt Schaub not sure if its related to it (injury) or a sounding board going into the offseason regarding personel desicions

Suprising that everyone wants to see Sage play usually there is one who want the opposite. I agree though let Sage finish the season and see what he can do...all it can do is help us.

I'm in the minority. I want Schaub to play. He has to come in and help us get to 9-7. We may be eliminated from the playoffs but we also have to showcase our team as a marquee FA attraction and a 9-7 record is a very very solid way to do that. We need to have our starting QB play some football. This season is not over. Far from it. Schaub MUST play. He's also the one that we're paying all those big dollars for. I'm a Rosenfels fan and am glad that he's on our team. Schaub is our annointed starter and should be until he plays himself OUT of a job. I don't think he's done that just yet.

Besides, I have a Schaub jersey. I want my money to be well spent.:doot:

You think the Texans are vague? Try the Ptriots, they are the worse at it. I just do not understand why some still get upset over the team not coming out and letting fans know about these injuries because if the fans know the oppossing team knows.

This may sound nuts but as far as sit or play goes. how about start Sage against the Colts and if Matt is healthy (100%) play him against Jags and see who performs better and this will help going into next season. Yes I know I believed in Matt and still do, but I cannot look past what Sage has done these last couple weeks.

Yeah , thats what I was thinking . Why risk further injury ? You know that he would be a target , with the other teams knowing about his status , especially since its against the Fags .

Cracks me up. I think this board has seen enough of HWWNBN's play that some people go nuts over the medicore QB play of Rosenfels.

The guy hasn't been on fire but he's gotten the job done well enough and I think the staff has done a good job of knowing what Sage can and can't do. They haven't asked him to do a whole lot and our Oline has done well enough in getting a running game going. Not to mention despite missing quite a few games AJ still might go to the pro bowl!

This situation reminds me of AJ Feely and the Eagles a few years back. They didn't ask him to do a lot and Andy Reid learned he can run the ball. Goes off to Miami and does nothing now he's back in Philly backing up McNabb.

Keep up the Sage for president chants irregaurdless of the reality of matters.

If Matt isn't 100% healthy I don't think he should start. I'm not the biggest Sage convert but whatever I want a .500 season finally and I don't care Specnatz or whomever on this board is starting.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way. Sage has been good in relief, but it's not like he is looking like Tom Brady out there. Matt is also not looking like David Carr out there when he is playing. Sage is playing great, but Matt was looking like a top 10 QB in the league when the team was healthy and was knocked out of a few games by a cheap shot and an awkward fall.

I'm almost positive that none of the coaches or GM would even consider starting Sage over Schaub if both are healthy.

If I start at QB we would lose, I can't see over the line being I am shorter than Darius walker and my 40 time is up over 6 seconds and my arm strength is not what it used to be, unless you count chunking a empty 12 oz. Also, I have not played QB since the 5th grade so I maybe a bit rusty, but if that is what the team wants I will suit up for a game and give it my best shot, maybe I can get one of Tom Brady's cast offs.

If Matt is healthy enough to play, then I think he should. I like both qb's, but I think Matt need's more game reps. I liked what I saw when we had a healthy team and he was leading the charge.
