Can Gary Walker be our NT?

Walker isn't the pass-rusher he once was...I'm wondering if he couldn't become our NT next year? Any opinions?

If so, then we have more flexibility in either signing Seth or looking to draft for younger NT to develop.

I really would like a more athletic DE in his spot that could help our pass-rush a bit more.

I agree. Draft Spears to start at RDE and move Smith to NT. Instant upgrade at 2 positions. :howdy:

i actually like that idea, but yall think smith could play the NT position ????

The idea has been brought up quite a few times, and his body type seems to be good for a NT...He may need to add a little more bulk...

Overall, he is (obviously) our least injury-prone d-lineman, so based on that alone, he should at least get a try-out at NT, the most crucial position on the d-line...

In this particular scenario, I believe Walker would be the starter at LDE...With the money we're paying him, he will start unless he's injured, with is very possible...

OK, I can bite on Robaire being a strong possibility at NT, but I'm still thinking that Walker could handle the position and maybe even rejuvenate himself. His short, squatty frame is perfect and his experience as a DT would help.

We could still draft Spears or Shaun Cody and then we have a solid line. Especially if Seth heals and returns.

I still want a huge fat guy at the position. A sequoia tree stump type of guy. Look at the success Traylor is having with the Pats. 6-2 and 340. That is the size of the guy we need to play NT.

:howdy: Noseguard is a tough position . Theres not a lot of guys who want to play it . Those guys get a chop block every other play . I guess that explains the chronic leg injuries .

Walker is not suited to play NT because his game is more like a one gap players game. I think he will bounce back and have a solid year next season on the end.

Traylor can play. He isn't just some 'fat guy'. You need great balance and need to have great hands to play on the nose. I've seen smaller guys do well and larger guys do well, and pure size doesn't have that much to do with being a good player. There are tons of 350 pounders out there but most of them can't play.

I agree with Vinny that Walker's game isn't suited for NT... I don't see why Robaire Smith wouldn't be capable of being a good NT- He's certainly got the strenght and the size. I was surprised last season, when he wasn't even discussed as a NT option before Payne returned in good health.
