DeMeco May Not Play

GAHHHHHHH!

Today's practice quotes.

(on an update on injuries) “Let’s see. Two guys actually didn’t do anything today. DeMeco (Ryans) and Ronnie (Dayne) did not do anything, and that’s basically from us. Could they have done something? Yeah, I think they could, but we held them out. We’ll take a look at them tomorrow and see, so I think there’s still hope for both of them even though they didn’t practice.”

(on if there is a chance LB DeMeco Ryans won’t play) “Oh, yeah, I think there’s a chance, but knowing that kid, I think he’ll be ready to go. But he just basically took all the calls, stood in the back with me and watched the defense today, and we’ll see where he’s at tomorrow.”

(on if LB DeMeco Ryans has a hurt knee) “Yes. He’s got his knee banged up pretty good, so hopefully he’ll be OK.”

(on LB DeMeco Ryans saying earlier this week there’s no way he’ll sit out of the game) “I believe that. If he can go, he can go. He’s one of those kids, there are certain kids on your team that all you’ve got to do is ask them and they tell you no, you know they must be hurting pretty bad. And when he tells me, ‘I’m going to be ready to go,’ which he feels like he is, I’m trusting him. I’d like to see him run around a little bit tomorrow, though.”

This is scary on so many levels.

Pray even if you are an atheist.:texflag:

Heard about it earlier, but I still think he plays.

If he plays, I hope he doesn't injure anything further. Or that he is able to play like he can play.

If he doesn't play, it could get really ugly out there. I know that the team has been able to deal with injuries to some key players, but I don't really want to see a DeMeco-less defense against Denver.

Yeah - that Denver running game might look pretty awesome without DeMeco in there. He better get healthy tomorrow.

Agreed. I recall watching the play where he got injured & noticed even though DeMeco was barely able to walk he tried to stay in for the next play. He stayed in for that play I believe, but the coaches pulled him out the following play and put Diles in. The Texans forced the punt & that was the only play I saw Diles in on. I certainly hope it's not a serious injury or one that could get worse if he tries to play through it because I'm sure DeMeco will do everything he can to play on Thursday. If the coaches plan on sitting him they'd better hide his helmet & pads otherwise I'm sure he'd try to get in there and lead his guys.

I agree that it could get ugly if DeMeco isn't playing, but I think he loves the game too much to not not play. If the medical staff tell Kubes not to play him, then don't play him. He's too valuable to have a serious injury emerge from a small tweak of the knee.

Not to turn this into a religious thread, but I bet God listens to the prayers of atheists. Which I guess is the inverse thought to the old quote "There are no atheists in foxholes."

that one popped up once or twice in my recent rereading of Citizen Soldiers by Ambrose. :)

back to the topic, demeco's abscence may cause an ulcer or two ... or maybe a chewed finger.

Obviously, we want to beat the Broncs, look good on national TV, and be in position to finish 8-8 ..... BUT, let's not take a chance on hurting DR. If there is a possibility of him making it worse by playing (especially in a short week), then please let's man up and see what Diles can do.

It's more of an intictment of what's behind him, than it is an affirmation of how good he is. He has not played well the last five games.

Ryans is going to play. I have not a doubt in my mind and he'll play well. Every week it seems we get distracted by some player on the opposing team who is hurt, may not play, might go on IR, or won't be 100% and so we hope can be taken advantage of. This is what the Texans are doing right now in playing up DeMeco's injury.

He'll go. He'll be himself. He'll be fine.

Shanahan on the other hand will not fall for this even a little bit.

I don't know aout this.

DeMeco was not walking very good on the sideline. He didn't look right at all. Small type so big Shanny won't read this. I have no doubt that he will want to play if he can but eek.

DeMeco would play on leg and with a broken arm. He's the throw back type. He'll put some tape on it and go lay the wood on someone.

If DeMeco is injured, he should sit the game out and not risk further injury. It's not that this game matters, because it doesn't. We're not going to the playoffs and I would hate to see DeMeco get injured futher by playing with an injury in a meaningless game.

Faith, TC. Hervoyel is correct 99% of the time. Just in case this falls under that 1% - keep praying.

If that were only the case I'd be a rich man indeed. I think you slightly overestimate my "powers" with that 99% figure.

I'm pretty confident of this one though. I believe he'll play. At this time of year every team has a bunch of guys who are missing practices and getting a chance to take it easy so they'll be ready to go on game day. You have your truly injured players and then you've got guys who are dinged up but can and will go all out for you on Sunday. DeMeco is one of those kinds of players. He's effective with some knicks and dents on him and he loves the game so if he can get in there he's in there.

I don't expect Dayne to play though. I don't think he'll be ready. I think they'll hold him out to use against Indy and Jacksonville. The Colts we only beat if they just literally sit their starters because they've got nothing much to gain by playing them but the Jaguars we'll have at home and every Texan standing is going to be giving everything they've got. Figure we lose this week (I'm not predicting it, I'm just saying it could happen. We haven't exactly been "money" when we get into big national broadcast games....) and we're sitting at 6-8. We go to Indy and probably come out of there at 6-9. The "spin" for the Jacksonville game then is that the team is trying to match their best ever record of 7-9 and maybe they manage to do that.

With the kind of injuries we've had this season I'd be ok with that. I'd rather see 8-8 but I understand if that's not possible.
