David Patten?

SharperFan

Practice Squad
Dear Texans fans!

what about signing UFA WR David Patten from the Patriots. I know that Chris Palmer signed him in Cleveland a few years ago and he played good.

What about him? Any other names outthere?

Go Texans!

My philosophy is if you can get a player from a 3-4 Playoff team then you should do your best to bring him in.

when you say 3-4, do you mean 3-4 defense??? Cause Patten is a WR and has nothing to do with the defense...

sorry you are confused. I did state 3-4 PLAYOFF team. Patten is certainly a part of that that category. I'll be a little more expansive since you need me to draw it all out for you. If we have the chance to go after a player who is on a team that has made the playoffs OR if that certain player is a defensive player and the team who made the Playoffs runs a 3-4 defense then we should go after him, since of couse we run the 3-4 defense. Gee I hope that cleared it all up for you. Whew.

Patten is not defense, he is a WR...
still

read the word PLAYOFF, subtract 3-4 (this is only intended for defensive players, obviously) then that will lead you to the promise land. It's a blanket statement, no need to pick it apart by stating the obvious. This is going to be a long off-season.

lol, ok. I get it now. whew...

I say go for it. Out of all those WR, he is probably the better one and he plays a very physical style.

yeah i dunno i feel we already have a strong core of WR for next season !

What WR's? The only one that is a sure thing is Andre Johnson!!! Everyone is saying the Texans have this "AMAZING" offense :hairpull:!!! Yes we do have David Carr, and yes we have somewhat of a good line! We have NO TE and a huge ? when it comes to are rushing games (and yes I do know that they were all not a 100%)! We need help, we sign all these WR to practice squad and other things that are nobodys and are not going to be here! People are saying that Bradford will be gone, and Jabar has not really proven himself..........so who else is there??? Please someone tell me if I'm leaving someone out, because I really think we need help with are WR crew, O and JJ.......is 5'6'! Well Please someone tell me why people are talking crazy or did I just watch 16 total different games this year (NO, I'm not stupid we did break out in a "FEW")! :thud:

I wouldn't say our WR corp is the best but we certainly are promising and do have talent. Gaffney improved a whole lot this season and could be a really good #3 if we get an awesome #2 to go along side AJ.

haha have you ever heard of D. Armstrong, or perhaps jabar gaffney, and of course Andre Johnnson ???? We may need a speedy outside reciever to fill Bradfords spot but other than that it looks like we are in pretty good shape at the WR position !

well if we were gonna work on the O-Line that would be nice but casserly and company already said there will most likly be no changes to the Line this year. I guess they figure that the line will Gel together with time ! Who knows but i'm sure they have the best of intentions in mind !

we are going to probably try and upgrade the WR position in free agency, Bradford will go somewhere else, i'm thinking Jerry Porter might be someone to look at.

I mentioned earlier in the season that Jerry Porter would make a nice fit. He can still stretch a D, and he has very dependable hands, and can provide some veteran leadership and playoff experience.

plus Jerry Porter is still young at 26 years old, and at 6'2 220 is a big target. He is coming off a 64 catch 998 yard 9TD season.

would be a great bookend to Johnson.

Last time i read in the local paper here in cali, porter is most likely a Raider again, he has met with Davis and the GM and most likely will be resigned, the only problem with Jerry is he didnt think he was being used enough, and wanted a bigger contract

dont know, i have never really thought of Oakland as a city that would be attractive for players to come play, it doesnt have the prestige like San Fran, maybe he likes Gannon, but Gannon will be done if not this year, then next year... so that shouldnt be his reason, Oaklands offense scheme doesnt fit Porter...really i dont know what is going through his mind, but he will most likely stay... but to address who i want to see in a Texan uni next year, it is Mike Williams, like i have stated numerous times. AJ, Williams, Gaffney, Armstrong, and Starling (if he comes along like we think he can)... that looks like one of the top WR cores in the league right there

mike williams, out of USC, in the draft, i would rather pick him up instead of any free agent, because i think he will be more talented, and cheaper then any vet... there would be no comparison for our young core of players to that of the Lions, who many sports writers think have a better core, which i think is bogus, especially after the horrible year the Lions QB had, and the fact C. Rogers is always hurt (the Lions own personal Bennie Joppru).

Well I would really like us to get a veteran at one of the skill positions. I am all for youth but I feel that it shows at times during the season and we don't have time for that if we want to make the playoffs this year.

The Line needs alot of work, via FA, and Draft.

Or, it's quite possible that the existing line just needs a lot of work.

If you go buck wild through FA and the draft and make wholesale changes you're going to upset whatever chemistry they have going. This line, with these players, in these positions needs another year together. We will hopefully have Joppru at TE (finally) but as for the core of the line it's staying put and I'd go so far as to say the players themselves are not the problem. Ok, McKinney is IMO a problem but with improvement around him he will return to his previous, barely-passable, form. We need to upgrade him but the first part of that can be done simply by getting Pitts and Weigert comfortable in what they're doing on either side of him.

I bet that barring injury we open 2005 with the exact same people starting as 2004. And I bet they play better as the year goes along.

You got yourself a bet.

well most of the receivers we are talking about looking at are probably to good for our CAP, especially if we are gonna make a couple signing to the OL via free agency... so mike williams really is being brought in to just stretch the field during his rookie year, and will build as he progresses... he would command a lot of attention, more then any other WR on the Texans would, besides AJ of course. and he would be cheaper then muhammed (SP?), Burress, Gardner, or Porter... and has more potential then any of them

Bradford is gone, Gaffney will always just be a solid slot receiver. does AJ play any slot though sometimes, like TO does for the Eagles.... but with the WR through FA deal, i dont think it will happen, the Texans dont have enough CAP to go after a Vet receiver looking for his final contract, like Muhsin, or a playmaker that is going to draw a lot of money like burress... and then go out and get a couple OL too... wont happen. we draft a WR or a DE, but from what i am hearing from a few on the board now, some think Walker may have a bounce back year (otherwise he needs to restucture his contract for not playing to the potenial he was being payed to play at)...Payne will be back, that is one of the first major issues Casserly will address.. so i am for another young WR, IMO
